Reading the negative comments here, really makes me question where they are coming from. Were expectations too high, or were feelings hurt that Sawmill is so popular. I expect some of both. Do not book here if you have a busy or unpredictable schedule or live in an area with bad weather. We had a reservation and, due to severe snow in our area, physically could not travel. We called ahead and spoke to a staff member who was kind and understanding and advised us to call back in the morning to speak with the manager. That's where everything went downhill. The manager canceled our reservation before even speaking to us, then was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional on the phone. We understood that we booked a non-refundable rate -- we weren't even asking for a refund. We simply asked to reschedule or find any reasonable solution. She refused to help in any way and eventually hung up on us. So if you enjoy giving a business your money just to be disrespected and blown off, this is the place for you. This campground is the closest to the southern edge of the withalacoochie trail I would like to tent camp here, are prices reasonable and I read where there's a membership fee and is there a time in the tent area where the noise level is low enough to get some sleep. Visited and camped out at Sawmill for the first time this weekend. It was a great time, looking forward to doing it again. The people were very welcoming and fun to be around. They have a restaurant you don't have to cook, unless you really wanted to. As well as a full service bar, pool, and night club, can't forget about the Trails and the 'garage'. read more

Ok. I recently posted a real good review of this place. After spending nearly 2 months at Sawmill, I noticed a lack of consideration for the quiet most of the guests request. There are booming bass beats late into the night with no one at the bar. Music screams out of crackle speakers around the pool. People drive around in their golf carts sometimes late at night with super loud tunes distorted through bad speakers. ​there are so many ways quiet is disturbed, such as neighbors that blast music all day some times. Its not a campground. Its not a resort. Its party central. Do not go there is youre expecting a peaceful, relaxing time. The pool is heated, but always loud, unless you get there after 9 am​, and sometimes, they'll keep the music off for an hour or so. Then, all stops come out. Blasting. You can't hear one another talk. Some pf the staff will turn it down per request but inevitably, it goes back up. Im sure a few guests like it, but, according to the majority of people, they hate it. That management doesn't recognize this says a lot about them. Read the room! Im not sure who was in charge of noise when we first got to the place, and I left such a glowing review, but apparently they ere told to revert to loud banging aggressively obnoxious noises. So many people were complaining about it, and whem I asked "well did you say anything" they replied "well general manager like sit that way". The amount of revenue lost because people can't stand to stay at the pool & bar for very long must be astounding. Oh then there's the guy that wont replace his fire alarm chirp because "oh he likes to bug people". It's camping. It's a resort? It's camping. Its too bad. The place could be so awesome for EVERYONE with a little more consideration for the majority of people that want to hear birds, crickets and occasional frogs in contrast to the pounding beat of party time for the minority. How about loud music from 5 to 7?? Or, happy hour around noon with a more up beat vibe? In short, do not go to this place expecting a relaxing, camp atmosphere. Do not expect anyone to do a thing about your neighbors being disruptive. I say again, it could be such a good place, for everyone, with a little compromise from management. Went here in May of 2024, Have never met a more rude bunch of people at a gay campground in my life. Talk about pretentious and nasty people. The only person that was friendly was the original owner of the campground. Was planning on spending the weekend and left after less than 4 hours. Would never go back again. Also this is touted as one of the best gay campgrounds in the country, I would not agree on any front. It was not well kept - dirty bathrooms, rundown cabins and plumbing. Will never set foot on this place again. read more

This place used to be fun. But then they raised the prices and created an overly complex pricing structure. First, there's the yearly membership charge, then there's the day pass which may or may not go to a certain time, then there's the exorbitant lot fees. Many of the cabins don't have a bathroom. There are not many showers compared with the size of the park, and only a small number of them are semi-private. You better like drag shows, a lot. Because the drag shows are forced on you repeatedly. The food is pretty decent, but I questioned why I am paying for drinks from the bar when, despite signs saying no outside drinks, pretty much everyone at the pool brought their own drinks in. The Wi-fi was slow by the pool and non existent almost everywhere else. Cellular service was also a blackout for half the park. They are touting new cabin upgrades as a bonus, the cabin upgrades are what you would expect them to be for what they are charging. It's not that they are premium, it's that the other cabins are dumpy. If there is a TV, there is no cable, so if you carry DVDs with you, oh nevermind, the DVD player is broken. Many of the residents here are locked in a battle of complaining about the noise (knowing that going in) and not attracting enough visitors for their HOA to go down. There's a good subset of resident old men who complain. If you close your eyes here, the first thing you look at will be worn out, broken, or missing. There are one or two good bartenders, the rest are preoccupied with their phones or gossiping with their friends. The reservation process and complex pricing model got so irritating that we stopped going. The theme weekends almost never have anything at all to do with an actual theme. If it does take place, it's like a porn star is brought in or some guys from Connecticut wearing cowboy hats. A drvg element started to emerge as well. Groups from FTL that stand around and only talk to each other and get high and fall over things. It used to be fun. Ask anyone now and they say it's gone downhill. It's like there is dirt everywhere. You constantly feel dirty here. And not in the good way. read more

Camping is not something you'll find me doing very often, but fortunately you can make this experience feel more like glamping, than rustic camping. While you can pitch a tent, you'll find me in a cabin. Sawmill Campground, located in rural Dade City, is a nice getaway place to spend a weekend from, "city life". As of yet they have no WiFi, most of the time you have poor cell phone reception so it forces you to kickback and enjoy the present. The pros: - the pool area. The pool is great (and heated). You can rent a cabana and there are plenty of chairs. - the pool bar, which opens at 8am and closes at midnight has just enough to not keep you bored with food. - it's clean here. They do a nice job of making it a nice and clean campground. - it's on a lot of land so you don't feel like you're on top of each other. The cabin we stayed in was number 5: KD Lang which had two double beds and most importantly - air conditioning. It has a fridge, no TV, and a small cabinet to store clothing in. Cons: - the cabin had an odor to it. I think it came from the air conditioning, which smelled like cat urine. - while they had events throughout the weekend, I felt like the organizational aspect of things was not there. For example: they had an event from 6-8 where you could have a steak dinner for $15, but only had 15 steaks available so within an hour they ran out. The campground features a couple of bars which are all connected so you can pop into whichever one suits you. It's clothing optional on the entire grounds so you don't have to worry about packing much to wear although I'd recommend packing some big spray if nothing else. Plenty of places to get into trouble like the trails or the garage (when it's open and if you have money to pay for it), or you can just relax by the pool. What a great place to meet wonderful new people! The staff from beginning to end were nothing but hospitable.

I've heard about Sawmill for awhile now and have a few friends who are staying there over the winter. I decided to come down and spend a weekend to escape the snow. Nice size campground with a mix of RV's, permanent residences, motor coaches, cabins and tents. I stayed in one of the cabins (#12). Cabin was fairly basic.. a bed, air conditioner, microwave and fridge. Bathroom and shower were at the pool-house, which wasn't too far away. Very friendly people here.. decent food and drinks and the show on Saturday evening was really fun. Slow times were spent by the pool or inside playing pool, but there were several events going on most of the time. When I start looking for a place to snowbird, Sawmill will be on the list. read more

The camp ground is full of lit golf carts, thumping music, lots of love and different events on the weekend. This is a Very welcoming and fun place to visit. Bring a RV, camper or rent a cute little cabin and enjoy the days with lots of welcoming camp goers. I loved hanging by the pool, clothing was optional and the drinks are quite affordable. Which check mark allot to make it 5 stars in my books. We plan to come back for Halloween to enjoy a safe outdoor and socially distanced place. read more

This is my second time at Sawmill Campground, and every time we go, we have an amazing time! The hubby and I recently bought an RV. The minute we pulled out of the dealer with our new toy, we headed straight to Sawmill for Mardi Gras weekend! Since it was last minute and it was a popular weekend, we stayed at their overflow area which is called Kumquat. We had the last spot with electric hookups. We thought we were kind of far from all the action, but it turned out we were pretty close to the pool so we were excited. If you've never been, Sawmill has it all. There is a great pool where everyone hangs around during the day. There is a restaurant/bar called Splash where we refilled our beverages several times :). They have a night club with great drag shows, and of course on the weekend there is the Garage where things get dark and fun! The nature trails are great too! And finally, what gay camp wouldn't be complete with their very own Ricki Lake! Every time we've come to Sawmill, we make great new friends, and this time was no exception. I couldn't think of a better place to spend our first camp fresh from buying our first RV. We'll definitely be back soon Sawmill! read more

We have visited the Sawmill many times over the past decade. We like the friendly staff, the drag shows, the themes weekends, the pool area, and the sense of community here. It's a good place to go where you don't have to worry about being yourself. One of the issues we have is that the management seems to do nothing about the constant barking of dogs. Many campers come here with anywhere between one and five dogs. Some campers train their dogs to not bark, but most campers don't care enough about their fellow campers to do that. The dogs bark all morning and all day and their owners just ignore it. For a few years now, there is this one dog that is left outside on a leash all weekend to bark at everything that moves. I don't know when it became accepted for there to be constant dog barking at camp grounds, but apparently it is accepted and practically celebrated here. All other campgrounds where I've stayed have clear policies printed on their rules about barking dogs not being tolerated. Overall, Sawmill is a fun place to meet up with old friends and make new friends. But having your campsite surrounded by others with barking dogs, especially on a Saturday or Sunday morning is for the birds. And the lack of management to do anything about it is disappointing. But if you don't mind dogs barking all the time, dust and pollen floating around, fuzzy stinging caterpillars that rain poop on everything under the oak trees in the Spring, super restrictive cancellation policies, and an absent management, then you'll be able to enjoy all the fun things to do here. read more

I just went the weekend before Halloween 2020 and had the best time! Very impressed with social distancing guidelines sawmill followed! I felt completely safe every where! I had so much fun! The restaurant was extremely convenient and very well managed and organized! They really have a great system in place! The drag show was so funny! Im more into camp drag then the serious beauty contest drag and let me tell you I was laughing and really enjoying myself to the show! Excellent german outfit contest too! Really creative ways to make people laugh! Pool was clean and heated! I wont go in a freezing pool lol it was perfect temperature! Great camp to stay. Very fun specially on Halloween weekend or any bears group weekends. The only problem is the restaurant service. Is crappy. They take more than 30 minutes to make a sandwich and more than an hour to make a pizza. And when you go and claim the only excuse is that the kitchen is too busy. So I you got and stay either bring your own food or drive outside, there are ser real eating options 10 minutes away from the campground. read more

Update! I felt discriminated and bullied by the campground mgr.,Alan, and the co-op pres., Mike, but I was not deterred. I drove around the property and took pictures of at least 12 infractions from clotheslines, flag posts nailed into trees, plant hangers, lights, ornaments and even another tarp supported by a tree!! I went to the office and spoke to Mike about the findings. Eventually, I asked to see it in writing where it says I couldn't hang my tarp. The rules regulations clearly states, No clotheslines, that's it. Nothing about trees or tarps. He begrudgingly conceded. However, in a bitchy retort, he said that next time it will be in the rules. How's that for bitchy?! If that's the case, I have two choices. 1- don't come back. 2- Come back and drive around the park to be sure there are no other infractions. If there are, which I'm sure there will be, I will put up my tarp until all other infractions are dealt with. NOTE - One of the pictures of a property with multiple infractions was alledgedly Mike's. Yeah, the co-op president!! Add hypocrite to bitchy. Now I ask, was all this really necessary?? read more

CONS: - The front gate people are not friendly at all, on their phone for personal calls, and never pause/stop/mute their call. Four times on this trip alone. - The shop closes at 6pm on weekdays, so come prepared. The selection is limited. - We were there on a karaoke night at the pool bar (Splash). Was the only bar open. It was wayyyy too loud. We had to go outside of the bar to talk and ended up with a pounding headache. If you have a decent voice -- you'd be golden (and very welcomed). - The mixed drinks are weak. You'll have to get some extra liquor in it if you want your fruity drink to work. - The mattress is so bad, you sink to the middle. Extremely uncomfortable, thin, and a plastic sheet underneath. This is the third time we've had a bad mattress here. - The pool closes kind of early. I think 10pm. No late night dips. Probably liabilities and neighbor courtesies? PROS: - The shop is limited, but has basics. Snacks, beer, drinks, sundries, beach towels, etc. - The bartenders are great (we had three different over the stay). Friendly, attentive, and just the right amount of chat. - The room is spotless. Kudos to their housekeepers. - The grounds are nice. Great for walking. A couple small walking trails. - Patrons/regulars are very friendly and engage you in chats. - Pool is perfect. Perfect. They have cabanas for rent if you prefer a little shade. They keep a separate area for smokers. The Splash bar is next to the pool and has food, very convenient. It's a nice campground, but not sure how they tout "America's Favorite LGBT Campground"?? We go to several and this would probably rank fifth. I'd love to give them a better rating, but the bed is a deal breaker. Plus, some of the staff needs work. read more

Sawmill campground buts the Plus in LGBT. How wonderful is it to find a place where you can go and be you. Very welcoming and inviting. Along with all the amenities, one could want while camping. From Lucy's camp store to Ricki lack, the Pool, bar, pool tables, another bar, walking trails, 4 very clean and comfortable washroom with single or group showers, another bar & a laundry room. The campsites have electricity. The entertainment makes for a great weekend. Karaoke and Drag Bingo. Poolside games where you can win Sawmill prizes. They always have themed weekends. The best part is you can join in or just be by yourself. In the area are some great walking trails and kayak spots. So, for those who enjoy tent camping let me recommend this spot. Sawmill Campground. P.S. If tent camping is not your thing. Sawmill has several cabins and a bunkhouse. They also have RV Pull-in spots with full hookup. We've been members at Sawmill for several years, and live close enough that we go for the day about once a month and stay on the weekends in a cabin about 3 times a year. Overall we are very happy with the facilities and the way the property is maintained. Our complaint is basically with the reservations and check in policy and the general manager Justin. We had a reservation for a weekend in August but had to cancel as I had covid. We were given a full credit for the 2 night stay, but found out it had to be used within 60 days. This 60 day thing is very limiting as many weekends the cabins are all booked. We were able to book another weekend in October within the 60 days but it wasn't a cabin in the part of the park we like. It was cabin #3, which is right by the pool. The cabin itself is fine, but we were subjected to loud music from the pool area till 12:45 the first night and 2AM the second night! Cabins at Sawmill are not cheap either, especially on weekends. Several e mails to the general manager about this have not been returned, nor have other e mails confirming a change in reservations and the credit. Another problem is the check in procedure. Sometimes you go to the gate house and they have your keys and check you in, other times you go to the gatehouse only to be told go to Lucys and check in. read more

Good time all around. We rented a cabin. It was a bit run down but the sheets and towels were clean. Staff is very friendly. Food was surprisingly good. I'd bring your own booze as the mixed drinks are quite weak. They do sell beer at the camp store. The pool area was clean and busy. They do allow camp fires. Worst place ever. They could care less if you were effected by the hurricane. All they want to do is keep your deposit and charged my card immedialty. Our house was wiped out by Irma but they could care less. We have been trying to contact them for WEEKS! No one calls back , when I finally got ahold of a human it was like they could care less about the hurricane. We booked a 4day stay 2 months before the hurricane , our house was wiped out. We have been requesting a cancellation for weeks but they don't care. If your gay and want to go to a LGBT place go to the Cabanas, or island house! Steer clear of this scumbag place. I live in Tampa and have been coming to this campground for years. Just under 45 minutes from Tampa and about an hour from Orlando, the Sawmill provides a fun retreat from the city life and immerses you in the outdoors and provides activities for everyone to enjoy. There are lots of residents there and ensures there's always someone there to make a crowd. There are always visitors which only increases the fun. Online you can find planned events and an agenda which is ideal for planning. I've stayed in a cabin and I've also stayed at a tent site. Both experiences are worth the dollars required. For what you pay, you would think they would invest in gravel or tar and chip the roads. The campground is very dusty from the sugar sand roads. Everything at our site was constantly covered with road dust and dirt. Every vehicle and or every golf cart that passes by just kicks up another dust storm to settle on everything. read more

Sadly I am finding it hard to select a rating. So I'm am doing an over all rating based on 18years of good times there. Over all the place is amazing, and a great place to go, especially right at dawn, to take photographs. I have been a member for 18 years ,I think. I'm not doing the math on that one though. My issue is with the customer service, the HOA President and the General Manager. Blake-HOA president is a vendictive person, he makes decisions while intoxicated and is extremely aggressive. He was forced to make an apology to me and about a week later He banned. I asked to see, in writing, what rule I broke. I was denied. Because I didn't break any. There is no recourse for member, there is no members advocate on the board of the HOA. He does not follow guidelines for taking such actions and he abuses his position.. and the General manager is a yes man. It's such a shame that the HOA can simultaneously improve and destroy the place. What happened to customer service? Absolute power currupts absolutely. read more

Beware!! check their website before making the trip to this place. They specialize in "holiday" day pass requirements. For instance Sunday afternoon in the middle of October a $10 day pass is now $17.12. Two hours wasted driving here and back. You either stand on principle or fall for anything; like dropping almost $40 for two people to lay by the pool and spend money on food and drinks. I stand corrected. Their website doesn't even have the correct day pass rate. You actually have to drive there and find out when you're trying to get through the gate. read more

Stay far away from this campground if you are REVering! Owners are a bunch of catty gay men who asked us to leave from remarks made by what appeared to be a bi polar man who verbally attacked my husband and myself for my husband jogging slowly and me ridding my bicycle! A self appointed court was staged for the bi polar man's amusement where we were asked to leave from his lies and fabrications. Completely bath house mentality all over with drunks and drugs! Noise from boom boom bars outside an inside. We do not drink but even if we did would of been impossible to sleep with drunks knocking on our door and screaming! Day passes where many come and seem to be predators spending their nights as cars run all night for heat. Smoky fires and well list goes on and on! I have frequented Sawmill for last 10 years and thought would give one last chance to no avail. I travel the world and this place is not friendly at all and seem to be all for the timeshare owners and to hell with cabin,tents and RV folks! To samills credit they did return our $$. p.s. we are very nice people who were just flabbergasted and disgusted by our treatment! Seems that if you are a drunk or mean person you are on Sawmill's A list. That is one list we will stay away from for our lifetime of RVing.
