I stopped here on the way home approx 1230am (6/7) and as I was waiting to get a brew I was ignored @ the bar. The bar guy totally ignored me the whole time while I was trying to get a beer. Even when he left momentarily, he still looked over me. But when I said I wanted to get something I was told I was being rude. Little that he knew that I was standing behind the guy getting a brew but I was the one being rude. Idk what's going on at this place but I don't like to be disrespected & ignored when I'm giving my money. I'll come back but that bar guy will be checked & he knows who he is. Had read about this place and thought I should go see it in person. Sat at the bar and had a pleasant conversation with two others seated nearby. After finishing my beer, decided it was time to go outside. Saw a couple of nice people who let me sit with them. I told them it was my first time there and they filled me in about the laid back atmosphere of the place. When they left I walked towards the back patio area. Saw several guys standing around and joined them. All were very friendly and engaging. They pulled out a chair for me to sit and introduced themselves to me. I am definitely coming back!! This is a long overdue review - Hanks... what can I say about such an interesting place. LOL - Well, I have to say that it is very friendly - starting with Dale, one of the bartenders. He is friendly, engaging, well liked and respected. He is very friendly from the beginning - and he keeps everything under control. This is a local neighborhood bar but you get to see some tourists that hear about the place. Guys play pool or just simply talk. I do not live in Florida but get to go every year to visit my folks during the month of December. I made some excellent friends - and they are always waiting for me to hang out at Hanks. There is some fun going on in the back yard but don't let that scare you! If you go there is an "attitude", please don't go there. Someone might start flirting with you but if you are not interested, just walk away. It is packed on Friday and Saturday nights. I do have one big problem and it is with the owner. I heard from some of their regulars that it is an older woman. The place needs some work and she is not doing much to keep it up to date. However, the staff put up things to make it more inviting. The owner is not involved with the gay community at all. Age should not be an excuse - She should be involved and give back to the community. The place already has a reputation it is just a matter of making some upkeep. read more

I had heard about this place even before moving to Orlando, and decided to finally give it a try on a Monday night to see what all the fuss was about. I'd heard it was cheap, dirty, sketchy and gross, but fun. For the most part, everything I had heard was right. It's a small inside bar with a couple of pool tables, a dart board, an oddly set up bar (beer and wine only) and an outside "backyard patio area" that gets very, uh, frisky I guess. Three bucks for a beer is reasonable but I wouldn't call it "cheap," and the bartender seemed to have a bit of an attitude, though I have absolutely no idea why. He was pretty pleasant to me personally, but was clearly annoyed with the group of guys on the other side of the bar, who didn't seem rowdy or anything. Maybe I missed something. The place is absolutely a dump, but that's part of its charm I guess, and the bathroom at least seemed clean. There's an awesome internet jukebox that plays about anything you can think of, and I liked that people seemed to be playing all kinds of genres instead of just dance music or showtunes. Outside, the patio area is kind of tragic, though there were a couple of cute guys wandering around trying to avoid being chased by the much, much older customers. I guess I could see why this place was popular, but for me personally I preferred the other option just up the road called Bar Codes, which was kind of the same thing but cleaner and friendlier. read more

Not your typical gay bar. I went to this place two times already...ever since I started heading to Orlando over 5 years ago. The place is dark but has a good backyard area. It is kind of a mix of a bar/adult book store (if you know what I mean). The men that I have met there range from middle aged closet cases (business guys) to old queens (who don't act there age). I went on a Tuesday afternoon, and was surprised to see over ten cars in the lot. Inside the bar a few guys were shooting pool, others sitting at the bar drinking/talking. They all seemed friendly. I went out on to the patio, and some guys were cruising around, and some we're socializing. In the very back there were some interesting activities happening. I was there for about two hours before I had to leave. I returned later that night, around 11:30 pm, and it became the most memorable gay night of my life. I will go back every chance I get! I've been a patron of Hanks for over 15 years plus. Great gay cruising in the back patio for those who are in the mood! All the shadows move especially on a weekend. The only set back is that you don't know who is lurking in the shadows. *There is a One-Drink Minimum for ALL Patrons!* It doesn't have to be alcoholic, but it's a requirement that is strictly enforced! Upon my recommendation if you have the cash and have great taste in music put $10-$20 in the jukebox and press the "Next" option for every song. There's a group of Latino men that like to annoy all the non-Hispanic patrons and are bound and determined to turn this neighborhood gay bar into a cantina in Tijuana minus the donkey show and tequila by a hostile take-over of the juke box. Boo! Hiss! From Tuesday's Thru Saturday's night's the bartender's name's Dale. He is very cool, has a heart of gold, and can be intimidating just by his height. Not to worry if he barks at you. That's his way of complimenting you. Tip him well and he'll treat you well. But that goes without saying at any service industry establishment. The crowd's mostly men in their 40's-50's. This is a denim and leather Gay bar. Although there isn't any dress code enforced (meaning a requirement to wear denim and leather), there are some who should adhere to one as to my concern of it either being a dress code or health code violation. There are two pool tables, a juke box, a pin ball machine, an electronic dart board machine, and two MegaTouch machines at the bar. So there's plenty to keep your hands busy if one isn't in the "cruising" mood. So "No Means No Fellas!" Speaking of which, if you don't mind the ogling and such, the men's restroom is located near the pin ball machine. If you are like me, and lean toward the more modest approach of using the restroom, there is a private restroom near the bar that has a red painted door. This bathroom usually has a line. On Tues nights there's $5 pitchers of Bud Lite beer and a pool tournament. Although it's few and far between occasionally you will see a female enter the bar. There is a sign disclosing on the front door to all women warning them of the nature of this bar. So a warning to all the ladies to "Enter At Own Risk" if you are easily offended. You may want to drive to this bar in some sort of Jeep, 4X4 pick-up, an SUV with great suspension, a Hummer, etc., since the parking lot is full of pond-sized pot holes, warn out pavement, and loose gravel. If you have a vehicle that is too sensitive to such encumbrances, you might want to take an Über or Lyft here instead. Hank's parking lot is treacherous and you don't want to make the mistake of parking in the next door parking lot since it belongs to a church and they will have your vehicle towed. Overall if you like a neighborhood, "cruisey", lusty gay, dive bar, then this place is for you. If you prefer more of a cafe or lounge bar with clean floors and no dust, no stains, no urine and stale beer smells, and no lusty gay men, then this bar is NOT for you. read more

Anyways, Hanks has the best Gay cruisest back yard in Orlando. Everytime I come here I have a good time. The place doesn't look like much but good things come in small packages!
