I highly recommend against using SB Tax Pros. While Rod is a very nice guy, I do not believe he is a good CPA. He may be a good CPA for maybe the basic of basic tax needs, but for anything slightly more complicated (stocks, crypto, backdoor roth IRA conversions, tax credits, etc) Firstly, when I sent him my tax documents, I also gave him specific instructions on what forms to fill out because my tax situation is a bit more complex than a typical tax payer. Not only did he not follow my instructions, he didn't even properly fill out the forms he was supposed to fill out. For anyone interesting, if you did a backdoor roth IRA, that requires an 8606 form which I told him he needed to fill out. Never happened. I also gave him other instructions as well such as using a previous years tax credit carryover. He never did that either. These mistakes resulted in him saying that I owed more than $13k to the IRS. I saved myself $13k by doing my owe taxes instead using TurboTax rather than paying Rod to do my taxes. Secondarily, before all of this, I recommended him to a coworker. With my coworker, Rod did not properly fill in the cost basis for capital gain/loss reporting even though my coworker has proof that he sent in both the 1099 and the supplemental stock forms (which has the adjusted cost basis). I ended up catching this mistake when I reviewed my coworkers taxes. Rod just used the cost basis of $0 rather than the actual cost basis. This resulting in over a $40k mistake in capital gain/loss reporting that my coworker never should have owed. So to summarize, do not go to SBTaxPros for anything complex, anything stock related, etc. It can cost you thousands of dollars, or even 10's of thousands of dollars. read more

I have never worked with a tax professional. In fact, before 2021, I had only ever filed taxes myself. This year everything changed. I was in a crisis, having started my own business in 2020, missing a tax deadline due to COVID-related issues with family, facing an unexpected burden of federal fees and documentation paperwork I had no idea how I would manage. Rarely do I utilize online reviews to find professionals who provide services such as this one. Despite being recommended to Rod via a friend and local in the area who has been working with rod for over 5 years, I feel compelled to write him a review based on my experience working with him. I'll keep this short; I went in bringing only my laptop, feeling scared and hopeless with virtually no paperwork or documentation to show and no idea where to begin. I left Rod's office with everything handled, documents printed out for my records, the comfort that he was committed to helping me request forgiveness of the late fee for which I was penalized for having been 1 day late to file, AND the news that I would be receiving money back on my taxes from the previous year! Rod, a Cal Poly graduate, who is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in accounting, helped me to feel in control of my situation and at ease with the steps that needed to be taken to correct my past mistakes in order to be back on track with my tax situation. BONUS! when my time ran overdue to many unforeseen irregularities with my specific tax preparation, I noticed another client come in and wait. Rod addressed the man in Spanish and kindly asked me if it was possible to pause our session and reconvene later that evening for which I agreed. Later I learned that Rod, who speaks fluent Spanish is specifically certified to help our very own Latino community to do their taxes and keep up to date in accordance with the law, whether they are documented or not. Kudos to you Rod!!! This makes me very proud and happy to come back year after year. It goes without saying that Rod's office is clean and comfortable with COVID precations in place and masks are worn for safety. If I can rate negative , I would rate this accountant "Rod" negative infinity!! He treated my husband' question as shit and just ignored what he asked for months after my husband has been his client for serval years . I tried to call to ask just one small question because we filled our tax together and he uses an excuse not to talk to me at all and said he would call me and he never did !! I'm not surprised at all how "respectful l" he was to his client because you never get even an answer to 1 question about tax for months - from year 2019 to year 2020 even you have been his client for years. Honestly, I have never see anybody who provides professional service has such a bad personal quality! Had to choose a star because otherwise I couldn't leave a review. If the option was available, I'd leave a -5 star rating. "Rod" as he called him self did my 2016 Taxes. I THOUGHT they were pros like the name said.... but instead money hungry FRAUDSTER PROS! I had receipts and deductions ready for him to review. He took one look at how many I had and said I wouldn't be needing them. That I could only write off so much... Also didn't ask me if I had medical insurance for that year which I did, and cost me an over 900.00 penalty with the state. Overall finding I owed a sum of over 2,500.00. This year, I had someone else do my taxes providing the same documents and roughly having made the same figures gave or take a few hundred bucks, this new guy is getting me a REFUND for 2017. Also amending my 2016 taxes that "SBTaxPros" messed up finding mistakes and clearing up my penalties I should have never recieved. If you want your taxes done correctly and thoroughly, DO NOT go to SB Tax Pros. Just my personal experience and advice... read more
