If I have tax questions Michael answers them with knowledge. I've had to file extensions which they've handled appropriately (and yes, that hasn't always been the case with prior tax accountants). If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. This has been by far the WORST experience with a company that I have ever had. They are completely unprofessional and RUDE. A friend recommended that I see Michael for my taxes and being that my friend has been going to him for years and we are in the same industry, I took his word. I made my appointment to file my 2011 taxes and in 2013 I am still dealing with their mistakes and errors. At my appointment he was confused and looked like he had never seen a K-1 before. He even had to call in someone to help him find where in the program to write off student loan interest. I should have known at that point that this was a mistake. After over an hour of trying to figure out how to file, he told me what I owed to the IRS which was a little more than I usually pay but I made more money that year so I assumed it was right. Then a few days later when I got my bill for his service it was nearly DOUBLE what I had paid my previous tax person the year before. I was told that I could work out a payment plan with the IRS. Great, I was emailed the forms and was told that they would file for me. I filled everything out and faxed them to Rapid Tax. To my surprise, nearly a month later I got a letter from the IRS saying that I was LATE in my payments and that no monthly payment request was ever received. To boot there was a late fee and interest accrued on my balance. I immediately called Sandy at Rapid Tax and she swore that it was filed. Sorry, the letter is proof that it was never done. After asking what they could do since this was their mistake, Sandy was basically like, "Sorry, you're on your own." Really? You can't cover the late fee or interest for the mistake YOU made? Extremely unprofessional and rude, doesn't the customer come first??? I ended up just paying everything because I didn't want to deal with the headache. At that point I was just happy to be done with Rapid Tax. Well low and behold, I received a letter in the mail a few months later from the City of Los Angeles saying that I owe business tax and that I failed to properly file with the Office of Finance. I do NOT own a business, never have and the company that I do work for pays their city taxes every year. I called Rapid Tax to see what this is all about. I was told to fax the letter and they would take a look. NO ONE called me to let me know my letter was received, that they were looking into it, etc. I called back the next day and was basically told, "Yes, we filed it wrong. In the future we won't make that mistake." Ok, so now what? I am told that I need to write a letter to the city saying that my taxes were filed wrong. Excuse me? I now have to go through this trouble because of ANOTHER mistake that YOU made? WOW. When I asked why no one even bothered to call me back, I was told "We receive a lot of letters everyday and don't have time to let everyone know that we receive them." WOW. Probably the rudest response from a 'professional' company that I have ever EVER had. A simple, 'I'm Sorry' would have sufficed. So here I am, interest currently accruing on a balance that the city of LA says that I owe to them because of Rapid Tax's MISTAKE in filing my taxes. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Worst tax experience of my life. I don't wish to spend the time to detail my experience with this company, i'll just say that I've NEVER felt the need or taken the time to write a negative review about a company on yelp. That was until I was treated so rudely and unprofessional by these guys. I will say that I agree with everything Luaren M. had to write in her review, and I wish i had read that before I used this company for my taxes. Her mention of the assistant (Sandy) is spot on; she is the most unprofessional person I have ever had the displeasure to work with. They charge twice as much as most top accountants ask for, which I didn't even mind, until I found out that they would cost me thousands of dollars on my taxes, and then act unprofessionally and rude on top of that! They messed up 3 times on my taxes, then talked to me with an extremely rude and patronizing tone, and were IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of when I tried to point out there mistakes. Finally I had to hire a different accountant, who had this to say about there preparations: "I still can not believe myself that an EA (which Michael is) is like that. I have EA designation myself and this is the highest you can go in tax law and taxes without having Master Degree in Taxation, I am still amazed that someone with so many years experience could make mistakes like that. Michael is the owner and bought HR Block Franchise office and my guess is that he did not prepare that tax return himself because I can not believe that EA could do it. My guess is that the first version was prepared by his tax preparers and he did not even look at that , and, later when you started to question it and he looked at that personally, he must have seen the mistakes but could not admit it, even though they still re did it. Businesses like this are why I wish they offered zero star reviews. Michael is expensive (close to twice what I was paying before), but he was a nice guy and I figured he would be worth it....right up until I got a tax bill for $3500 because he filed my taxes wrong. I swear the guy actually chuckled when he looked back over our forms and admitted he simply screwed up. $3500!!! Worse, he would do absolutely nothing to help me out. He wouldn't cover part of the cost of his mistake, nor even refund me my money I paid him (when I asked for my money back, he laughed and said "Why would I give you your money back? You paid me to file your forms and I did, even if they were wrong!") He told me if I wanted anything back I could take him to court. And despite having the same initials, no, I am not the same person who also apparently got screwed last year. read more

hahhahahha...sorrry, I had to laugh at J o.'s one-star review. On the contrary, I wouldn't go to ANYONE else than Michael. He's been our family and business accountant for 18 (?) years now. Before coming to him I used to say I'd rather have a tooth pulled...no anaesthesia...than to do my taxes. Mike makes the process much, much better... Ok, I STILL don't like tax-time, but it's better! I have been using Michael's services for 20 years and with 100% confidence would refer him to my friends and family. He is very easy to speak to with regards to tax preparations for both my personal and corporate filings. I'm pretty old school in that I bring my receipts, income, w2's 1099's and bills to him and after he informs me of any new tax regulations, I'll have a bottom line amount du for State, Federal and Corporate taxes.
