My experience with SBI was disappointing on every level. To begin with, the company's focus seems to be on identifying all sorts of fees that can be imposed on customers, including minimum charges for processing fabrics, "special processing" fees for silk fabrics, "handling" fees (in addition to shipping charges) for the service of wrapping the fabric in a plastic shipping wrapper. These fees might be acceptable on a huge project that has no fixed budget, but unfortunately, the quality of their work also was terrible. As you can from the attached photos, SBI ruined the silk fabric I sent them by failing to stretch it before attaching a knit backing to it. The silk is now puckered and wrinkled and looks like crap. When I complained to SBI, they said, in a nutshell, too bad; the "approval form" contains a waiver of any responsibility on SBI's part for wrecking your fabric. This sloppy performance sharply undercut's SBI's claim that it can be counted on to do a professional job, and it also calls into question what value or service was provided for the "special" silk processing upcharge that I was required to pay.
On its website, SBI has posted a bunch of anonymous comments from unidentified customers who supposedly were very happy with the company's services. Given that SBI reportedly has been in business for 40 years, it seems strange that it has received only negative 1-star reviews on Yelp. If there are lots of satisfied customers, surely at least one of them would have found time to post a positive Yelp review at some point in the past few decades. It bears mention that Yelp does not allow businesses to remove negative reviews or modify them. read more
