Such a cute shop! I stopped in with my dog Milo. First of all- they have two giant bowls of water out front, which Milo greatly appreciated. They had a great selection of dog and cat treats and toys, as well as locally made dog collars. The prices were reasonable and the majority of items were from smaller and more local manufacturers. I bought a pack of cat treats for my cats (Milo had enough treats and toys), which I'm sure my cats will love. read more

I was in Kennebunkport with my family and I was sightseeing/shopping and found this nice pet store. Although, really it looks for like a pet gift shop. Pricey, high end pet items sold here. Beautiful store. I certainly thought as I was looking around the store, this would be a store Sergio from yelp would probably buy out completely. My only gripe as with most pet stores, is that there is always more items for dogs than cats. Still plenty of nice things to buy even for them. Love this cute place! They really know their audience. My dog is 6 pounds so it's hard for me to find things his size in little boutiques like this. Scalawags however has a whole wall dedicated to things in his size! They had a great selection of chews and toys. They had hand painted ornaments there and it's the only place I've ever found my dog depicted on one! Such friendly people, great small business to support when you are in the area. I got a harness, a snuffle ball, and an ornament. read more

I just got my order from Scalawags for their Bully Horns for my pit bull mix dog, Gronk. He has chewed it down almost most half way in just a week. He has been so calm and relaxed. We original found out about the horns when we were on vacation in Kennebunkport in September and were in the awesome cute store. I received the package just two days after the day I ordered. This is one of the best pet stores my husband and I have ever been to. They have everything from pet sweaters to pet puffer jackets to fish skin treats to unique pet toys! Very convenient to have right around the corner during our stay! We forgot to bring our pup a toy and since he insists to constantly carry one like a doll, it was the first thing to do when we got to town. They have a ton of cool stuff and even though I don't have a dog, I really really want one and I'm already lining up the best spots for toys & supplies. What a sweet shop for dogs and their parents! We stopped in right as we arrrived in Kenebunkport as we needed a ball chucker for the beach and some treats. We left with the intended purchases - as well as new lobster-themed collars for the "kids". The patrons there were all really kind and friendly to our brood and everyone had a great time. The gentleman who rented our vacation home to us also shops there and says the folks there are "really great people". Our vacation is as much for our dogs as it is for us and everyone in Kenebunkport has been so warm and welcoming to our pooches. What a great town. :) read more

This place is listed as a pet store but someone described it as more of a pet gift shop and that seems more fitting. For pet lovers and owners, this is the place to go. The staff is friendly and helpful as well as knowledgeable about their products. If you are looking for a place to run in and grab some dog food you forgot at the grocery store, this is not your place. If you are looking for a unique gift for a pet lover, a jacket for your dog or just something new and entertaining for your pet then stop in and check it out. I bought catnip bubbles to entertain our cats a few weeks ago (who knew that even existed) but lots more interesting than just another stuffed toy or ball. Unique is what you'll find here! read more

Funny, like the other reviewer, it was our first stop, too! What a great first stop! This shop has everything for your Son or Daughter! Lots and lots of collars and leashes and tons of fun items for you to spend hours of playtime with your pet! I bought my dog a squeaky toy and he's not stopped "squeaking" since we got home. Needless to say..We have headaches! But..he's so happy he loves it! They are so nice at shop it made first stop really fun! They even pointed us in the right direction to have a great lunch! HIGHWAY ROBBERY! I always visit local pet boutiques when traveling and have been visiting Kennebunkport for over twenty years, always making a point to support its local businesses. Well Scalawags is officially off my list due to poor customer service from the owner. I frankly found the owner to be a subpar representative for what a local establishment should represent. All of her inventory can be purchased on-line for much cheaper including the items I purchased but I knowingly bought the items to support her establishment. She did not return my kindness when I needed to return a defective item. I only wanted store credit but instead the owner told me she couldn't "just because" and directed me to the manufacturer. She easily could have accommodated me but probably feels a tourist is a one-shot visitor so why bother providing high quality customer service. Well I have been shopping in her store every summer. I am not a one-shot customer! I warn other visitors to stay clear because your business isn't appreciated. The owner clearly operates with a different set of rules for locals. I was very upfront about my dog's chewing ability and gave example of toys he has done well with in the past. I clearly picked up a defective recommended item because it was rated high for durability but my dog only had they toy for a few minutes (3 minutes top). I purchased all my items on the clerk's recommendation and spent over $130 on toys. My recommendation for pet owners visiting or residing in Kennebunkport is to visit chewys.com. Scalaways charges 66 percent higher prices then what you can easily purchase from this website. Customer service is nonexistent at Scalawags. What is the point to pay higher prices at a store you can walk into if you get no service in return. Thanks for nothing Scalawags! read more
