Needed a quick haircut. My go to salon was extremely busy. So what the heck, try this salon with good reviews. The quote was $60 haircut ,another 5 for blow-dry. I explained what I wanted...she had it in her mind a " Dorothy Hamel " style. After a couple of "tweeks", still didn't" hit the mark!" The stylist didn't listen to me at all. My total was $69...$ 9 for blow-dry! AND my gift for a new client...I am thinking..free hair supply samples...Nope, a little bottle of hand sanitizer FROM A HAIR SALON!! OMG!! SO DONE. read more

If the front desk girl wants to talk poorly of a customer, she should probably wait until the customer is no longer within earshot before saying mean and hurtful things about her. The only reason why I didn't go back in to confront her after I heard her saying mean things about me to a stylist, was because I didn't want to cause a scene. read more

There's no way to help a business that won't help themselves. Was told I could have the services I needed until two hours after I paid half the deposit, then they called back and said they couldn't do it. Not all the stylists were bad, but my husband and I didn't have the best experience with pictures to show (his were much more noticeable, mine just fell apart quicker than I expected but to her credit I have very thick hair and needed more hairspray and bobby pins than she used). Tried to give a benefit of a doubt, even tried to stick with it after 13 issues by making the final payment in full for a party of 8 ladies, but even after all were scheduled with remaining stylists (minus quite a few that left for better opportunities) I not only got an email canceling the whole party, but I had to call when it was convenient for the manager. I am not the type to fuss, but I also do not believe in paying for promised services that aren't being rendered. I think that's fair. This headache cost me two additional trial makeups and an extra trial hair on top of finding a replacement within 40 days. Everything happens for a reason, I'm glad to not be dealing with this lack of professionalism that I had assumed based off of the ratings. This is just constructive criticism, I hope they improve and since I was the first wedding since the new management, hopefully they'll learn from it and i won't be the last. Poor communication, poor follow-through, and don't say the issue is staffing changes if you had everything already scheduled after their departure. If you are the team leader, the one in charge, don't pass the hard work you can't deal with onto your employees. read more

I have visited this shop and the 3rd time me and my niece used the older nail technician. I had to jerk my had a way because of his unnecessary roughness. I told him he cut me. Later going home I washed my hands and at 4 of my finger tips were burning because they had been sliced with the fingernail file. I went back and the younger technician said sorry are you nails good your fingers are healing right! The audacity!! My niece also woke up the next day with her cuticles burning because of the tool used. The older male technician has a nasty demeanor and is rude. Please do not use this shop. Go to other nails shops in the area. My niece nails are only 4 days old but looks like she had the nails longer. read more

Hip has found it's way to Southern Maryland kids...and it looks like a blonde bombshell with pink bangs. I followed the previous reviewer's advice in search of a hipper look with less Southern Fried hair to Ami @ Scalped. I love my former stylist...but we were in a rut and I kept looking more and more like a soccer-mom-slipping-out-of-milfdom than the punky hardass artist I am. But Ami fixed all that. And in gorgeous surroundings. I told her what I wanted...and what I DIDN'T want and she gave me what I asked for. Actually, I wasn't really sure she gave me what I asked for...until I worked with myself. Voila! Hair I can STYLE MYSELF!!!! It really was low key. It really was punky. It's perfect! The salon itself is a great mix of circus, class, style, and self indulgence. I'm looking forward to the day when I win the lottery and can spend a day in the sumptuous spa that rivals anything created here in the District. Kristie, shampoo goddlette and counter lovely, gave me a tour and I knew this was a good choice. Just went to Scalped Salon yesterday to get my hair done. I went there based on a referral from my sister who hasn't been there in forever (she doesn't really get her hair done but maybe once a year). I made an appt with Adria. I arrived 1/2 hr early because I wasn't sure about traffic. While waiting they have a ton of hair products and little things to look at and when you're ready to sit they have a kitchen table with super comfy chairs. Adria came up to greet me and was so cheerful and warm. In most salons they sit you in front of the mirror to try and explain what you want. Adria sat with me right at the table to talk to me face to face. I told her I wanted to try to go back to my natural color. She went and got some swatches and matched my hair in the natural window sunlight (awesome bc the vanity lights always look off to me). The shampoo girl, Lauren was so sweet and did a really good massaging when shampooing! Adria was very talkative the whole time, it didn't feel like awkward conversation at all which is such a relief. She took her time coloring my hair (which came out to be EXACTLY what I wanted) and the cut is amazing. I can't say enough good things about my experience at Scalped because of Adria and Lauren. Needless to say, I'll definitely be coming back!! read more

Changed my appointment without notifying me. Refused service in which I had scheduled the appointment for. Had to walk out. Wouldn't even work with me on said service by modifying.. I was willing to change up my ideas. Then was told, she "didn't have enough time." Previously to this appointment, she made a handful of mistakes and I thankfully had them fixed for free. I understand mistakes will be made but she deliberately ignored my suggestions and colored my hair what color she thought was fitting.. completely unprofessional and tasteless. Won't be coming back. I've been going to Scalped since they were in Upper Marlboro (now in Prince Frederick) and I love them for the most past. Kathleen (hair) is great although difficult to get an appointment with. She (as do all of the stylists at Scalped) don't just jump into cutting/color but they spend time finding out what you are looking for before start. Kathleen also did my hair/make-up (well they did the whole wedding party) for my wedding last year and everything was great. I also love Erin (facials and waxing) and Michelle (nails) they are both great and again take time to help you achieve the look/result you want. The salon itself is set-up nicely, spacious and always clean. I've referred many people over the years without hesitation, a great salon in Calvert County. read more

I got my hair cut by Adria yesterday. She took the time to sit down with me and was patient when I showed her pictures. I mentioned the haircut I wanted (Ginnifer Goodwin pixie cut) and she seemed to already know something about the cut. She was very bubbly and talkative. I am very happy with my cut. She took her time and checked back in with me during the cut to make sure I was happy with what we were doing. She also told me that if I had any places that didn't lay correctly, I could come back and get them fixed immediately. She was great. So why didn't I give it 5 stars? The salon is kind of overwhelming... the receptionist took me on a tour before my appointment and it was awkward. I've never been given a tour of a salon before. I think it was just a way to let me know how many other services they offer. I was also offered drinks by everyone who walked by, which was nice but excessive. I also got a ton of coupons, referral cards and a pamphlet of services when I left. That is really pushy to me. It all seemed a little pretentious and staged, but I will be back because Adria and the haircut were great. read more

I took my two very picky teens in for haircuts, and we could not be happier. Heather and Leah were both incredible, made my kids feel very special, and listened to exactly what they wanted for their hair. Both kids are thrilled with their haircuts, which is a miracle. I can't say enough bout this place.. I'm so excited about my new find.. I'm have just moved to the area and I've been neglecting my hair because I'm really picky, and like funky and fresh places that don't scream cheap cuts that all look like some chain. The reception area and retail area is very nice and warm it makes you feel very welcome and they even offer beverages while you wait. The spa and massage area are quiet and offer so many services and packages you could spend the entire day there and you won't mind. I followed the advise off the previous reviewers and went to Ami, she was awesome. She made very great suggestions and really helped make suggestions without making me look crazy. as I have listened to stylist in the past. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.. I went to scalped to get my hair cut i believe back in September of last year. I had an appointment with Dawn. Everything went fine until she used thinning shears in my hair. I have curly, thick, and wavy hair. Now that its been about 6 months and all those short pieces of hair are growing out i have been fighting to get any comb or brush through my hair when i get out the shower. I have tried using detangling products, leave in conditioner, you name it i used it. Now i have these little flyaways everywhere when i put my hair back and when those short pieces are dry and the rest of my hair is still damp you can see them!! I am so frustrated! I could have gone to the hair cuttery and they would have known not to use thinning shears on my type of hair. I am so very disappointed and will never go to scalped again. read more

I walked in here by mistake for an appointment elsewhere - they took me immediately and pulled a rabbit out of a hat to turn my hair blue without any reference photos. It came out phenomenal and I get compliments on it nonstop. The atmosphere is therapeutic, the team is sensational, and Destiny is unforgettable. The experience was worth more than I paid. This little place is so great! I got an appointment with Grace! Wanted a big change blonde to brunette. Grace took before and after photos made me feel like a rock star. Gave me pointers on styling. I'm terrible with a curling iron so she really went through it with me. I loved it when I walked out of the salon. Couple of days later my hair faded. The blonde just wasn't holding the dark brown I was going for. I called Grace and she went way out of her way coming in on her day off to fix my hair at no charge. She went way above and beyond to make sure I was happy with what she did. It looks fantastic and I will definitely be coming back here all the time! read more

This place is incredible! I was part of a 6 person wedding party plus the bride over Memorial Day weekend. They hosted us all day and let us have brunch and beverages while the beautified us. EVERY SINGLE one of us was thrilled with not only our hair but also our makeup, which so rarely happens with so many ladies. On top of it, very few of us came with much help for the girls in terms of pictures, ideas, or preferences. They were so patience but also incredibly efficient finishing us all in time. PLUS we had so much fun with the staff while we were there. Key did my makeup and she absolutely nailed it and I gave no direction - honestly it was just as good if not better than my makeup for my own wedding! I have been searching for a good salon for awhile and decided to give this place a try. When I first walked in everyone was very professional and nice mannered, I was actually quite pleased to see good service skills for once. I have long black/brown hair and decided I needed a pick me up, so decided to get highlights. I did not want blonde highlights, just nice brown caramel highlights. Well boy was I in for a surprise! After 3 hrs of being there, once seated back at the station, the towel was removed and I thought I was going to DIE. My hair was so blonde that it had no pigment left, actually it was so bad it looked grey!!! Not only that the highlights were so uneven you could see splotches all over my hair! I have more highlights in the back of my head then I do upfront. I tried to hold it together and just bit by tongue and just asked her to blow dry it so I can leave. I ended up paying a lovely $186.00 for just a full head of highlights, no cut or anything! The price isn't the issue, if i was to pay for a high end salon I expect alot! I did not even receive a nice head massage with my shampoo, it was just wash and out and done! so the next day after calming down a bit I called the stylist and told her the problem, she was kind about it and asked me to come back in so the repairs can be done. I understand stuff happens and everything is fixable, however when i came back the owner got involved this time, and this time i showed her a photo of what I was talking about what I wanted to begin with, well the owner definitely set the tone of my review of this place. She talked to me like I was an idiot, I felt so belittled by this women it was horrible! so to fix it what did they do? they pretty much just slapped a dark color over my hair, it looked like what i originally had when i first walked in! $186 dollars for what? no apology from the owner no refund no nothing! all I can say is a month or so later now I am still upset and cannot believe this had happened. I will not be going back, nor would i recommend this place to anyone! read more

There are several good stylists at this salon; however, I had a really horrible experience where my stylist literally yelled at me when she didn't understand what I wanted for my hair. It was extremely unprofessional, and I ended up needing to pay to get my hair done again by someone else who knew how to do what I wanted. Overall, I would definitely not recommend this salon to anyone if they asked. Unprofessional employees and overpriced for the quality of service that you receive. read more

I went to Scalped on the recommendation of a coworker, and have been a loyal customer ever since. I've seen 3 stylists, and they've all done fabulous work. The reasons I did not rate 5 stars are: as a previous reviewer mentioned, if your appointment is with Grace, plan on spending at least an extra hour at the salon. She does good work, but she loves to talk about her dreams and goals, often stopping the haircut to do so. She is always substantially late. The second reason for a lower rating is that the last few times I've called, I have been unable to book an appointment. I recently moved an hour and a half away for a new job, but my 2 years with Scalped had been so great that I intended to return to them. It looks like I'll need to find a local salon that can be more flexible and fit me in. read more

After being assured that 1) I would be finished by 7:15 p.m. (my appointment was at 4:45 p.m., and I needed to be somewhere at 8 p.m.) and 2) my stylist knew the Deva curl cutting technique (cut curly hair dry), I found myself still sitting in the chair with a wet head full of color at 6:30 p.m. When I mentioned it to Grace, my stylist, she assured me everything would be fine. Well, by the time the timer went off for my color and I had had my hair shampooed, it was 7:03 p.m. Grace had 12 minutes to cut and style my hair. Needless to say, I was upset. Her response was I would be given a discount. My response was to leave . . . and never come back, especially since she then blamed her inability to color, cut, and style my hair in over 2 hours on the lengthy conversation we had regarding what color and cut would work best for me. The final straw? My hair was wet! She never intended to cut my hair dry, which was the reason I chose the salon in the first place. Follow up: Today I received a note of apology from the stylist and a full refund on my color, for which I was grateful. I'm undecided whether to go back for the cut because I wanted my hair cut dry, which was what I requested and was promised when I made the appointment, but it sure didn't seem like Grace intended to do so. Additionally, there was a dog walking around the salon, which must be some sort of health code violation. Finally, I would recommend Monica, for she did a great job waxing my eyebrows. read more

I just moved to Prince Frederick from California and was in search for a hair salon. I wanted to change my hair from long and blonde, (still long) but brown with layers and bangs. I scheduled an appointment with Adria. she was great! She did exactly what I wanted, she addressed all my concerns. She suggested a glaze instead of permanent dye; which had been the best decision because you can still see the different tones from my natural highlights.
