Diane and I enjoyed a leisurely open air lunch facing one of Copenhagen's major canals. The site was good for people watching since it was very close to the Little Mermaid sculpture and large sandcastles. Slices of bread in a bread basket looked well toasted, but turned out to be very supple, and tasted great slathered with butter.
A Lakse Salat was a refreshing starter with creamed salmon, apple slices, green and red lettuce leaves, and white celery nicely joined together. A main dish of oven-baked Danish chicken breast made with chicken stock, lemon, and cream sauce was very satisfying. And, a Sommer Burger with bacon and Cheddar Cheese added, cooked medium and served on a nice and soft herb-laden bun with green and red lettuce, coleslaw on top, ketchup, Thousand Island Dressing, and good Pomme Frites, was an excellent 1/4 lb. hamburger. Sommerens Dessert consisted of Strawberry Sherbet and house-made Chocolate and Vanilla Bean Ice Cream served with fresh berries and fruit puree. Pandekager--pancakes with rhubarb compote and a nice nutty crunch topped by Creme Anglaise--was an excellent end to the meal. The flavors were real vibrant. Besides the fine casual ambiance, service was excellent--except the berries were at first forgotten when the desserts were initially brought to our table.
