4.5 stars for the employees being so polite and on top of things EXCEPT the housekeeping lady that decided to question, "Why I needed towels? And where was I going with those sheets?"
Dude, it's called we use the towels....not eat them. I mean she was either rude of worried I would steal them.
5 for the front desk clerk. She provided the kid a free Yahtzee.
5 for the bar guys... I wasn't going to drink and only asked for the ice once I noticed it was chipped and no one complained nor grumbled. We got 4 refills without complaint.
5 for the kitchen guys as they handled my order in English and Norwegian as I had a local with me but he didn't get throwed off nor annoyed and kept up with both of us.
Disclaimer: we had the "Classic" burger, fries, Coke, 2 Sprites and 1 salad and my word.... I forgot how expensive Oslo/Norway/Denmark is as the kid spent $45 USD on a burger, salad, and 2 drinks plus felt inclined to tip and never ever wants to tip nor will like if when you do.
Graciously!!! They took USD. I didn't want to exchange any more money as we were heading home. Yep! They take credit cards but again I wanted to stick to my preset budget and limit things and spending.
For the rooms: I bypassed the Family Jr. Suite and went with twin beds because I redeemed Chase points and paid for the room which had a markup like NONE other but they genuinely are twin beds like all other Norwegian type places. The window does not open and solely cracks.
You must keep the keycard in the slot so all the lights can be turned on.
The toilet and shower are equal flooring like all other living places so it's always off putting for me but guess what no water on the floor outside the bath.
A small closet and the room is tight in space. Like, literally - at the foot of the bed then bam...you will hit the wall. There's a desk.
Lots of meeting space throughout the entire place.
There's a BMW dealer across the street and 3 other hotels in the loop. Not much else but a few farms.
The airport shuttle is confusing as sin. There's apparently 2 hotels named Scandic but the shuttle does run every 15-20 minutes from the airport. They'll take a card payment upon entry and the hotel will sell you tickets, plus there's a machine self-service at the hotel pick up stop and again you can pay via card upon entering the bus. We stayed on the 2nd floor so two things:
1) the elevator opens in the front and back
2) the stairs are a great height and manageable
3) there's a silent room location on the 2nd floor
4) the carpet includes the world atlas/mapping
5) The halls are long and there's a shoe buffer right before the elevator
Here's the 5 star: the morning breakfast.
I guess, I read so many reviews that complained that I lowered my expectations but the 4a-7a is the continental and it gets hot from 8a-10am. I honestly can't recall 7a-8a so ask yourself.
I'll post pictures but the fish was seasoned well and I initially made fun of it yet 3 servings later... I was eating fish for breakfast and asked for more cold smoked which they didn't just bring a few pieces for me to enjoy but restocked. The buffet ends at 10am so I would have thought restocking at 945a/950a was a bit much ~ nope it was done without complaint.
5 variations of flavored water, tomato juice, apple juice, specialty breads, 4 variations of eggs including 1 hot boiled egg dispenser and 1 cold boiled egg dispenser, sausage which I was just tired of pork as it's been on so many menu's while traveling throughout Europe. and bacon on some sunny side up eggs, 5 flavors of yogurt, 6 granolas, 4 smoothie options, cereal and everything but ORANGE juice. Seemed like a traditional Nordic breakfast which is included in the hotel cost.
All in all, this was worth it. I'd recommend and return. read more
