Based on the selection, I'd say most folks come here either for the comics downstairs or the extremely large selection of Harlequin romance novels. If you're a fan of either of these genres, The Paperback Exchange could easily warrant a five star rating. Seeing as how I don't have an interest in either, the selection for me was pretty limited. However, after some concerted digging, I plucked a copy of The Memory Keeper's Daughter from the shelf. It kept me entertained on my flight back to New York which is pretty priceless considering that it saved me from flipping through the SkyMall magazine again! read more

I'm going to update my review again. The Lady who runs the upstairs place is still pretty good, I like buying stuff from her. The Comic Room on the other hand I decided to check out again. I don't really know why I continue to go down there, other than the fact that they are the only place in Scarborough. The guy in the store is nice, but he has a tendency like many hobby stores do to absolute drool over the people he perceives to be his "regulars" and give cursory service to anyone else. I suppose he has a point, he's pretty much been the only game in town for a while now, and the closest thing he has to competition is the indigo at Kennedy Commons. However, in terms of comics I'm probably going to continue making the longer trek downtown to Hairy T or the Beguiling to get the comics I want. Rating this place is hard, because the upstairs lady is so nice, and the guy downstairs is nice to his regulars but in the 18 years I've been in and out of this shop, I've never felt welcome. read more

Nice Small local Used Book/Comics Store. There is a basement level which is where the comic room is. The comic selection available is huge and if you can't find what you're looking for they might be able to order it for you. There are pretty good sales that happen too. The used book shop selection is ok, the prices are good. The staff are pretty cool. read more

This is my #1 Comic Book place in Scarborough right now. Great selection, extra-friendly staff and a nice comfy atmosphere to help you while you browse. I just went there twice in the last month and I'll probably be going back again sometime this December. I will warn u guys that this store is very small. There is 2 floors, the first floor is filled with regular chapter books and usually whenever I go there's a super sweet lady there who's always very nice and helpful. And then second floor which is the basement is where all the comic books r, it's not that big of a room but they do mange to have a bit of a selection to choose from. If your looking for figures or manga u will probably have to go elsewhere because they only have one small wall of shelfs with figures and they don't sell manga at all, just normal comic books that are mostly marvel and Dc. They also have a little bit of Archie comics and other random stuff but it's mostly marvel and Dc. The guy who usually works in the basement when I go is also super nice. I've never experienced anything bad or rude when I've gone here before. The only reason why I don't give this place 5 stars instead of 4 is because the store is kinda too small and I wish their selection was a bit bigger but other than that this store is great and I do recommend going there. read more

I Usually come here for the comic books which are located downstairs. The service is exceptional, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The selection is quite good as well. I would definitely recommend this store to anyone who is interested in comic books and lives in scarborough! read more

I brought my son here hoping to find some comic books to complete his collection. We found a great selection and picked up quite a few to add to his collection. I also found that the assortment of used books was very good as well. Great place to find your next book or comic. read more

I was told on the phone the kind of books that they accept for exchange true crime, anything published in the last 6 years that sort of thing. However when I actually arrived at the store with my books the guy working there was rude, unwilling to even look at the books that I brought. He claimed that he normally only accepts books previously bought at the store itself. Anything I had would "just end up in the recycle bin". You are wasting your time if your goal is to get rid of any books you happen to have for any potential exchange. I also would like to mention that the website is incredibly misleading in terms of what kind of books they will accept. I expect that the store will continue to lose business for these reasons. As for the overall experience I would have looked around and probably bought some books even if he accepted only a few while I was there. However because of what had happened I decided not to and left immediately. Highly unrecommended. read more
