Upon entry you speak to person in booth that issues a paper ticket number like a deli. The numbers are different based on what service you say have come for. There is a large seated waiting area where you fill out form given with provided clipboard/pens lined on wall. Numbers are announced over loud speaker and displayed on TV screens throughout listing up to 6 numbers. There are around 6-7 active counter windows distributing the service varieties. I find the wait during weekday mornings to be between 15-20 minutes before get to a window. I would not count on short wait times in afternoon close to end of day as I've witnessed the line out the door just to get the paper ticket. The employees at windows are jovial as can be considering it is the DMV, I have not had a bad experience. One negative beside occasional long waits is sometimes they will direct you to stand and wait. I do not think the ticket system has always been used here but the implementation has been a big plus.

In September of 2025 I sent our plates , proof of Florida registration and insurance registered mail per their instructions and a letter asking for monies due me. Literally I have called and talked to all kinds of people over these last months , assuring me my refund should take 2 months. My calculations tell me that's November 2025 but apparently they are trained to tell customers anything to get them off the phone and then do nothing. Literally SC is keeping money owed to me and yet no one at the DMV knows how to answer a question and apparently supervisors are non existent or on extended breaks. So if you move from SC before a year don't count on a refund . Expect excuses, stories and non action because in the end you're just not that important to them.

I had my autistic granddaughter with me, that was overwhelmed. This young lady saw heard my silent cry. Before I knew it she was standing beside me leaning towards me and whispered, she's, then I said on the spectrum. She said yes, then helped me however she could. She was a angel from God! I realized she was also beautiful inside also! She greeted me very professionally and I appreciated that very much. DMV, this young lady is definitely a contribution to the agency. Then we found out we had to pay at a completely different location... What a complete waste of time. You should be able to do it all under one roof . But no, apparently I needed to be driving around in the pouring rain, standing in endless lines only to be told I could register my car and get my plates but needed to drive another 40 minutes to pay at a different location. Yeah, I'm done. This can wait til next week. People are already stressed standing in line , forced to go to two different places to register vehicles isn't remotely efficient, sorry. Drove 40 minutes to pay the taxes on the cars but my husband didn't have his title so we have to wait for that now. What a mess. They don't make it easy ...Then I find out the crazy tax initially on your car, you have to pay yearly. I initially thought living in SC would be cheaper because Florida has outrageous property taxes, car insurance and home owners insurance. But we pay no state income tax, no tax on vehicles yearly .Also the utilities vendors charge outrageous rates in SC. . I'm starting to think this will be a wash, as they always find a way to get your money no matter where you live.

There was an option to fill out an application online, so my question having done that was if I brought in all the documents they asked for (with a few extras on hand just in case), would everything go smoothly? And it did. I was subject to an initial greeting where my purpose for being there was verified and I took a number and got in line. In the middle of the afternoon, it was less than ten minutes before I was seen. Presenting my stuff, doing a couple of quick tests, and paying a pretty reasonable fee, I was out of there in probably less than half an hour total. Now, some people have more complicated situations, and some people clearly don't check out all the online resources before coming, but at least from my perspective it was a pretty smooth experience and the people working there seemed like they knew what they were doing.

I haven't been in here in about three years or so, and that was when I first got my Georgia driver's license (purely because my home state license expired, and I could not renew it online). This DDS is usually VERY crowded, and quite noisy as well. The way they do their system is kind of funky, and a little annoying, but if you can skate through on a weekday during everyone's normal working hours, you shouldn't be in there too long. I went a couple weeks ago on a Friday afternoon to get an endorsement added to my license, and it was fairly painless for the most part. The employees are definitely hit or miss, sometimes you get a super nice one and sometimes you get a... not so nice one. Either way, I make it a point to not go to this DDS, but it was the closest one to where I was at the moment, so I just decided to stop there.

I have had to visit this location on Mike Padgett Highway several times this year. When Nicole wrote her review I would agree with her. However they have added someone who asks while you wait in line "Why you are here?". This addition is incredibly valuable. In the past I have watched people wait in line only to be told they are not even in the right office or being told they need a document they don't have with them after waiting 1-2 hours. Since adding this person service has become highly valuable. Things stay moving even when fully loaded. Customers are much happier knowing their wait has been minimized even before they get to the counter. Also that person can direct customers to online features they can use while waiting in line. They have even added two computers terminals for this process and often people just start helping each other. So even that 80-90 year old grandma or grandpa can be assisted in a way that gets them through with a kind of speed I have never witnessed before. I used an online feature before coming in, that's right from home, got a number, sat down and was called in 5 minutes and helped in about 2 minutes. If they maintain this level of service I will raise the rating from a 4 star to a 5 star.

It was packed with a line inside around the corner. I waited in line and was told to go to the county bldg to pay property tax on my vehicle before I could transfer my registration. I left at about 4:15 and was back by 4:45. The line that was there was gone and the seating area was just about empty. I commend the 2 ladies at the front for simultaneously asking people waiting in line what they may need before even getting to the front, for asking other co-working at the booths if they needed any assistance finishing up current customers and everyone else not really showing that it was 5pm and they were ready ta go. They do things a bit different in SC than they do in LA but overall this is a great location to do business. I will definitely be back. Thank you
