I had my autistic granddaughter with me, that was overwhelmed. This young lady saw heard my silent cry. Before I knew it she was standing beside me leaning towards me and whispered, she's, then I said on the spectrum. She said yes, then helped me however she could. She was a angel from God! I realized she was also beautiful inside also! She greeted me very professionally and I appreciated that very much. DMV, this young lady is definitely a contribution to the agency. If I could, I would reward her a million dollars. I felt seen there on that day and my granddaughter wasn't judged by her. She saw the struggle, the need of help. That's great customer service!

Instead, I get a mad rep who seems like she is unbothered and is not helpful by no means necessary. She spoke as if she had an attitude. I overlooked it, completed my task and smiled on the way out. I always have to go there because the DMV never sends my yearly vehicle sticker on time. Staff seems hostile at times and act like they do not want to be bothered even though it's a job. The employees there pay taxes, and they need to realize the customers they service pay taxes as well. Customer service could be a lot better for all. The lack of good supervision brings about chaos in the workplace.

There's something to be said in how the SC DMV is abusing the Real ID system. The number of people…read morewho live outside of SC, never had a SC drivers license, and are being told they now have to do a driving school, and pay all kinds of fees for traffic/misdemeanor offenses from so many years ago, some 20+ years ago, and reinstate a SC DL they never had is abuse-and a complete money grab. Not to mention notices that were sent to fake addresses, also supposedly 20+ years ago. The SC DMV employee, Diamond, was the most unhelpful, and to keep it real, a dishonest person we encountered throughout this entire ordeal. She attempted to provide partial information (that's being kind, to be honest, she was very dishonest) until we asked for the notice via email while on the phone. Sure enough it was mailed to a non-existent address, and she gave partial information until we had the notice in front of us and she was confronted. She'd initially said "just pay the $100 fine and you'll be good to go". Obviously that was completely inaccurate information that she knowingly gave to get off the phone until she had no choice but to actually address the situation at hand while never acknowledging the notice was mailed to a non-existent address. She also sent the notice as a picture rather than an actual letter (but that's SC for you), so I doubt the legitimacy of it in its entirety, not to mention it's undated. When she was told this was never part of the sentence from the Judge, she stated it was "implied consent" due to a BAC level in 2002, even though the judge (of a court that no longer exists, nor do these records-convenient) thanked this person for their service as he was about to deploy and had just come back from deployment, and then imposed a fine and sent him on his way. Never a mention of implied consent through the entire process, and conveniently proof cannot be provided. Now hundreds of drivers, primarily veterans, from nearly every state in the U.S., have their drivers license held hostage by the SC DMV, jumping through hoops, paying hundreds out of pocket, likely close to $1000, due to SC's untrained staff, their antiquated systems (because let's be honest, most systems will stop you from mailing something to a nonexistent address-and would also be able to accept online payments rather than mail only check or money order), and obviously some type of money grab. For those who went to court 20 years ago, paid their fines and went on with their life, only to find out SC has a hold on their drivers license all these years later is wild. Imagine doing something in your early 20s, paying for an attorney, taking care of everything immediately, as instructed by the judge, only to find out in your 50s that the SC DMV is a disaster and will impact your life, and hundreds of others, in a major way. When we encountered this, my immediate response to him was "it's SC so there's no doubt they've done something ridiculous". Well....that was indeed the case. Here it is, only two weeks into all of this, and already $700 out of pocket for something that was taken care of in 2002. There will be more to come on this, as this abuse of the Real ID system needs to be highlighted. SC needs to be accountable for this nonsense.

DMV in Ballentine SC, between Chapin and Irmo…read more I have found this location to generally be able to get in and out with not too long of a wait. Upon entry you speak to person in booth that issues a paper ticket number like a deli. The numbers are different based on what service you say have come for. There is a large seated waiting area where you fill out form given with provided clipboard/pens lined on wall. Numbers are announced over loud speaker and displayed on TV screens throughout listing up to 6 numbers. There are around 6-7 active counter windows distributing the service varieties. I find the wait during weekday mornings to be between 15-20 minutes before get to a window. I would not count on short wait times in afternoon close to end of day as I've witnessed the line out the door just to get the paper ticket. The employees at windows are jovial as can be considering it is the DMV, I have not had a bad experience. One negative beside occasional long waits is sometimes they will direct you to stand and wait. I do not think the ticket system has always been used here but the implementation has been a big plus.

Then we found out we had to pay at a completely different location... What a complete waste of time. You should be able to do it all under one roof . But no, apparently I needed to be driving around in the pouring rain, standing in endless lines only to be told I could register my car and get my plates but needed to drive another 40 minutes to pay at a different location. Yeah, I'm done. This can wait til next week. People are already stressed standing in line , forced to go to two different places to register vehicles isn't remotely efficient, sorry. Drove 40 minutes to pay the taxes on the cars but my husband didn't have his title so we have to wait for that now. What a mess. They don't make it easy ...Then I find out the crazy tax initially on your car, you have to pay yearly. I initially thought living in SC would be cheaper because Florida has outrageous property taxes, car insurance and home owners insurance. But we pay no state income tax, no tax on vehicles yearly .Also the utilities vendors charge outrageous rates in SC. . I'm starting to think this will be a wash, as they always find a way to get your money no matter where you live.

There was an option to fill out an application online, so my question having done that was if I brought in all the documents they asked for (with a few extras on hand just in case), would everything go smoothly? And it did. I was subject to an initial greeting where my purpose for being there was verified and I took a number and got in line. In the middle of the afternoon, it was less than ten minutes before I was seen. Presenting my stuff, doing a couple of quick tests, and paying a pretty reasonable fee, I was out of there in probably less than half an hour total. Now, some people have more complicated situations, and some people clearly don't check out all the online resources before coming, but at least from my perspective it was a pretty smooth experience and the people working there seemed like they knew what they were doing.
