I like coming to this dmv because a lot of times it's not as busy. They always get me set up quickly and back on my way.

There's something to be said in how the SC DMV is abusing the Real ID system. The number of people…read morewho live outside of SC, never had a SC drivers license, and are being told they now have to do a driving school, and pay all kinds of fees for traffic/misdemeanor offenses from so many years ago, some 20+ years ago, and reinstate a SC DL they never had is abuse-and a complete money grab. Not to mention notices that were sent to fake addresses, also supposedly 20+ years ago. The SC DMV employee, Diamond, was the most unhelpful, and to keep it real, a dishonest person we encountered throughout this entire ordeal. She attempted to provide partial information (that's being kind, to be honest, she was very dishonest) until we asked for the notice via email while on the phone. Sure enough it was mailed to a non-existent address, and she gave partial information until we had the notice in front of us and she was confronted. She'd initially said "just pay the $100 fine and you'll be good to go". Obviously that was completely inaccurate information that she knowingly gave to get off the phone until she had no choice but to actually address the situation at hand while never acknowledging the notice was mailed to a non-existent address. She also sent the notice as a picture rather than an actual letter (but that's SC for you), so I doubt the legitimacy of it in its entirety, not to mention it's undated. When she was told this was never part of the sentence from the Judge, she stated it was "implied consent" due to a BAC level in 2002, even though the judge (of a court that no longer exists, nor do these records-convenient) thanked this person for their service as he was about to deploy and had just come back from deployment, and then imposed a fine and sent him on his way. Never a mention of implied consent through the entire process, and conveniently proof cannot be provided. Now hundreds of drivers, primarily veterans, from nearly every state in the U.S., have their drivers license held hostage by the SC DMV, jumping through hoops, paying hundreds out of pocket, likely close to $1000, due to SC's untrained staff, their antiquated systems (because let's be honest, most systems will stop you from mailing something to a nonexistent address-and would also be able to accept online payments rather than mail only check or money order), and obviously some type of money grab. For those who went to court 20 years ago, paid their fines and went on with their life, only to find out SC has a hold on their drivers license all these years later is wild. Imagine doing something in your early 20s, paying for an attorney, taking care of everything immediately, as instructed by the judge, only to find out in your 50s that the SC DMV is a disaster and will impact your life, and hundreds of others, in a major way. When we encountered this, my immediate response to him was "it's SC so there's no doubt they've done something ridiculous". Well....that was indeed the case. Here it is, only two weeks into all of this, and already $700 out of pocket for something that was taken care of in 2002. There will be more to come on this, as this abuse of the Real ID system needs to be highlighted. SC needs to be accountable for this nonsense.

But instead I am reminded that I need to either go online or in person to renew my tag. Because there was a change of mailing address, I did not receive my renewal notice in the mail so I knew a trip to Peach Orchard road was a coming. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I walked in and an electronic screen asked my purpose for being there. I pressed the appropriate button and my paper ticket popped out. I sat down and listened for the next number. It was 10 in front of mind. I was not hopeful. As I sat there, I soon observed an employee whose job it appears is to answer questions and help people make the right selection when checking in. That is thoughtful. But I still anticipated a long wait. I began catching up on the local news when all of a sudden numbers were being called out over the intercom. Sometimes two at a time. In less than 20 minutes, I was seated across from someone telling her I needed to renew my tag. In less than 5 minutes I had not only renewed my tag, but updated my mailing information and phone number. Talk about efficient. I left impressed. If you live in Richmond County, this is the place to go. Trust me. *Insider's Tip -They will ask for an acceptable ID (driver's license, etc) so be sure to have it on hand.

Who else like myself hate going to the DMV?…read more I must say this was the best professional service I have gotten while going to Motor Vehicles. After waiting nearly 10 days for an appointment today was the day. As a new resident here in NC I'm not too familiar with directions yet, so I went on and put the name of the place in the gps. Come to find out there was one near my area. When I get there my appointment was at 1:30 Pm so I was on time. Easy access to find parking. When I go inside there is an armed security guard, by the entrance, there was a line with about 15 ppl ahead of me but the line was moving quick. They called the people that had an appointment to the front of the line. I was up next. The older white lady did not grab her name took care of me. She was very polite and informative. When I hand her my documents come to find out I went to the wrong DMV. She quickly took actions into finding out if she can help me or not and she did. Took my documents to checking everything made sure everything was alright. There was also an African American guy next to her, he seems to be the one in charge he was helping ppl fast on the line and very professional. I waited about 20 minutes to get called. I went to the booth number 11. Was a nice lady will soon updated it and get her name the teller. She was calm, nice, and very helpful. Help me with my license and transfer. I'll give this place 5 more stars if I can I'm really happy to know we have a professional DMV in my area.
