You can tell that they want to make it a destination spot with some yard games, a fire pit, and the like for while you wait. However, the all seem to be half measures. The food truck is ok, but very limited. The bathrooms are not maintained, but clean enough. The cornhole is convenient, but with only 2 sets of boards and missing bags, it doesn't offer much fun for everyone waiting for their ride. Finally, the length of time the trips take you is not clear. If I knew the next level was considerably longer, I may pay for the next level. Instead, it is listed as length of distance. You can get the 5 minute one for 20 bucks. I upgraded to the extended lake tour which is about 10-15 minutes. There is no traffic in the sky so if it takes 10 minutes to get to the lake, then it's 10 minutes lol. They take pictures of you outside of the helicopter before takeoff and you have the option to purchase after the tour. Our pilot, Nick, was great at giving a history of the lake as he flew us through. AMAZING! My mom has always wanted to go on a helicopter. I am TERRIFIED of heights, but agreed to take her on a recent trip to Gatlinburg. I figured if I was gonna go up in a whirly bird it might as well be somewhere with good views. Tyler our pilot was great and told us all about the things we were seeing on our tour. The ride was smooth and once we were in the air, both my mom and I were at ease. The views of the French Broad River and the lakes was really cool. The ride was short, but it was a good first ride. Was here for a bachelor party a week or so ago and we decided to do a helicopter tour after seeing this on one of the local coupon brochures at a distillery. We hit the info center closer into town and they made it super easy to figure out which tour to get, pricing, and schedule with plenty of time to drive north to the actual helipad where the choppers take off. Chopper easily held 4 - 3 in the back, 1 in the front. Jordan was our pilot and Jonathan was our boarding attendant and they were both extremely professional and made the process clear and fun. We opted for the 12 minute or so tour, which was just enough to get a decent taste for riding in a helicopter. Didn't see a whole lot other than the town, golf course, and some of the homes on the hill. I think if we had wanted more scenic touring, that I would recommend the splurge to go along the ridge-line tour or maybe the bigger tour that includes the lakes. Otherwise, it was really well done. I'd add photos, but I noticed there were so many on here already of great quality that mine have nothing to add. read more

They have an area where you can do things while waiting, but we didn't have to wait very long. There were four of us in our group and everyone had a headset so that we could talk to each other and the pilot. The pilot was very accommodating and answered our questions. These helicopter tours are almost never worth the money because of the short duration. But if you are going to do it then Scenic is the one to pick. My youngest kids were both scared until we got inside the Bell loneranger which holds 6 passengers and the pilot. Most Tours will only have a Bell helicopter that holds 3 passengers. They have those as well. Having the option for my whole family to fly at once was a great surprise. My kids loved it and I wish I would have paid for a longer flight. The gift shop has a lot of aviation themed gifts and toys as well. Ask for your Military discount. read more

We went on the "National Park Tour". I've been on helicopter tours with other companies (Alaska, Hawaii, Grand Canyon) and this was BORING in comparison. The pilot casually mentioned when we took off that he'll be flying a lot higher than other tours because of park requirements. If I had know, I would have picked a different tour! It was hard to see anything from that height and 20% of the time we couldn't see at all because we were up in the clouds. They also rush groups through -- We stood in the blazing sun for 5 minutes while the helicopter refueled which saved them the 20 seconds it took us to walk from the shaded area to the loading spot. Taking off over historic downtown Sevierville, you are instantly greeted with stunning mountain views. The flight continues over the Pigeon Forge Parkway and Gatlinburg as you take in all the sights of the surrounding areas. Once over Gatlinburg, you will head west and into the park boundary. Fly over the stunning Sugarland Valley, Fighting Creek Gap, and into the park's Elkmont community. Rounding out of Elkmont you will be presented with views of Mount LeConte, Clingmans Dome and Cove Mountain. Then follow along the Little River to Metcalf Bottoms and the scenic Wears Valley and Walden's Creek areas. The flight then crosses over Bluff Mountain and into the Tennessee Valley on the return to the heliport. The tour covers about 50 miles with an approximate flight time of 25 to 30 minutes, depending upon wind and weather conditions. Thankfully, on the day we went up the weather conditions were perfect. Do the Smoky Mountains offer amazing scenic views? Yes. Is a helicopter ride a cool thing to do a neat way to see those views? Absolutely. Are the staff friendly? Yes. Unfortunately, that's about where the positives end. This company is focused on how many people they can get through their doors as quickly as possible, meaning the flights are short (the medium-length tour last under 15 minutes from start to finish) and overpriced (the prices look inexpensive, until you realize how short the ride is). For our tour specifically, we were really disappointed in the lack of information around the weather. When we arrived, we were told it was a great day to fly, that people were moved from yesterday to today for the better weather, and even tried to upsell us on a longer tour. We stuck with a tour that was medium length for what they offered, paying $89 so that we could go into the Smokies. Once we got into the cabin, our pilot told us that the weather was terrible, with winds so high we would not be able to get anywhere near the mountains. He said his last group was a "guinea pig" though, and he found a nice route above Gatlinburg that was manageable to fly in. Needless to say, this was disappointing because we specifically selected the tour to see the mountains, but also made us super nervous for the flight. So, our flight was about 15 minutes of us sitting silently and nervously while circling above the dam in Gatlinburg (not very pretty), and hearing the pilot make nerve wracking comments such as: "The winds up here are a strong as a tropical storm" "We will experience a lot of sudden drops and movement back and forth. Please don't scream as it's loud in my headset and will make it hard to concentrate" It took us 3 times circling around before he was able to land - it felt like we were barely in control. My fiance and I were both nauseous when we touched down. While I understand that there's nothing they can do about the weather, we should have been offered the chance to reschedule, get a full refund, or be refunded the $50/person difference between the mountain tour (what we paid for) and the dam tour (what we got). While the staff are friendly, this is clearly a business that prioritizes quantity over quality. From a COVID perspective, there are zero precautions taken. I recognize that this is sadly on par with the area and a result of very loose TN laws, but this is a tourist area with people traveling from all over. None of the employees were wearing masks (front desk, pilots, etc.), nothing was sanitized between passengers, and employees got right up close to everyone. In the midst of a global pandemic, I expect more from business owners. read more

Les and his team we're absolutely amazing. We chose Scenic Helicopter Tours for our gender reveal and it was nothing short of incredible from start to finish. Les communicated with us the entire process, and was the only person to know the gender in which he received through an email. On the day of the reveal, Les and his team we're on time and created the best show for my friends and family. He flew the helicopter in our backyard and dropped the colored powder (pink in this case :) ) He made sure to fly around and get the crowds attention which gave us all such exciting anxiety. Overall our experience was awesome and it completely made our whole gender reveal. The next day six of us decided to fly up and experience the Great Smoky Mountains. No pressure or sales pitch in helping you pick your ride - They have a huge map that shows you where all of the different routes take you, this was nice to see before we chose what we wanted to do - A variety of price rates and tour options. Ranges from $10 to several hundred - We felt safe and like we were in good hands. The pilot was great in pointing out different sights along our tour - You have the ability to charter a private helicopter if you don't want strangers riding with you. It's pricey, but it was worthwhile (and I got to sit up front!). CONS: - It's very expensive. They do have cheaper options, but the $10 ride for instance takes you literally up and down for a 2 minute ride. We spent almost $300 for 15 minutes. - They refuse to take any pictures for you with your cell phone or camera. They say they don't want the liability of breaking your phone, but they really just want you to spend $15 on the pictures they take for you. This was disappointing. After spending almost $300 for our ride, we would've liked a photo in front of the helicopter together without an additional fee. So we skipped that part.
