We originally booked a half day on the upper Taylor (Class I/III rapids). One of our boys was very anxious, so we called and asked to downgrade to the lower Taylor trip(Class I/II rapids). They were super understanding and accommodating. When we arrived, it took no time at all to introduce us to our guide (Bain) and get us loaded up and going. Bain went through safety procedures and instructions, got us fitted properly in our life vests, and we were off! He was very friendly, personable, and knowledgeable about rafting and the area and told us all kinds of cool facts about the landscape, river, mountains, and wildlife. He really paid attention to my anxious kiddo and put him at ease very quickly. He made us feel really comfortable and successful for our first ever trip. We decided last minute to add a half day Gunnison River raft trip to our vacation. Staff was super helpful when we called to make the reservation since it was too late to make it online. Met at their Gunnison office for life preservers and instructions, and jumped in their bus to the launch site. They went through all of their safety information and we got on the raft with our guide, Angie. It was the first time for my kids, 7 & 10, and Angie was great with them. She pointed out wildlife, told us stories, and let us know when and how to paddle. Our trip ended at the beginning of Gunnison River Whitewater Park, where we grabbed their van back to the office. Such a great experience and highly recommend them for a beginner rafting trip. Extra info: They'll hold your car keys at the office so you don't lose them on the river. They take pictures throughout the trip and you can purchase a CD in the office you wish...there was no hard sell. They also have a number of restrooms you can change in at the end of the trip. Don't forget sunscreen as the CO sun is unforgiving. COVID-19 info: Everyone was required to wear masks at the office and on the shuttle. Groups sat in clusters on the shuttle to socially distance and hand sanitizer was available. Families/groups got in separate rafts and masks were not required when actually rafting. read more

Our family booked the Gunnison 2 hour trip last week on vacation. We had 4 adults and 2 small children (3.5 and 6 yrs old). We all had fun! Our guides (I think their names were Bane and Dustin) were so nice! They helped with the kids and kept the conversation appropriate. We felt safe with our littlest the entire time. We all left the trip wanting to go again!!! Even my 3 year old wants to raft again soon. The facilities where you change were great. They have 4 bathrooms so ample place to change before and/or after your trip. You also stop halfway to get water, and there is a Port a potty there too. My brother and I had the time of our lives this weekend at Scenic River Tours while I was visiting this weekend! Dustin guided our raft for a 2-hour ride (3 and 4 hour options were not available due to risk with the river), and provided us with tons of knowledge and insight during an epic session down the Upper Taylor! The river was rushing with all of the snow-melt as we hit quite a few class 4 rapids and multiple class 3's. We had an excellent and fun tour with Scenic River Tours. Half of our group had been white water rafting before, but half had not. Bain our guide was great. He made those that had never been on one before feel comfortable and safe. He was very knowledgeable of the river and gave us heads up on what he needed for us to do. He also pointed out many of the local landmarks and educated us on the wildlife of the region. My son and I have been on almost a dozen of these and this was the best ran one with the best guide we have ever had. I would HIGHLY recommend this group and if we ever are in the area again we will definitely do this again...except instead of the 2 hour tour we will sign up for the full day one. read more

Colin and Chuck were great guides, and we (four adults) had a great early August afternoon run in the Upper Taylor. Chuck did a nice job going over all the safety stuff, and Colin was masterful in the boat--and kept things fun and lively. Definitely a great crew and a fun adventure! One of us got a wetsuit; the others said they were ok without one (and didn't freeze). One suggestion for the company: we would have been willing to buy the whole set of pics for $10 or maybe $15 bucks. But $50 or so for a set of digital images seems steep enough that most folks are unlikely to buy pictures--which is too bad, because your staff did a great job taking them throughout the trip. read more

My party of 5 went on the Taylor river full day trip, and we all had a fantastic time! The guides were all hilarious and knowledgeable. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They accommodated enough for the vegetarian and the gluten free members of our party. The wet suit, at least in the morning was super nice. The greatest thing is that the wet suit rental is included already, so there's no reason to not wear them, especially since the water was roughly 40 degrees F! These guys also offered free wet suit socks, and those were very very nice indeed. The ONLY issue that made me think about giving it 4 stars was that we seemed to take a lot of breaks. We would have possibly gone a few more miles for sure, if we didn't have to wait for the other Taylor full day trip rafts every 20 minutes. It almost feels like they're trying to extend the time to fit to a full day. But, all in all, we were pretty satisfied, if only a bit wanting a few more thrills on the raft. (We had a little bit of experience before of white water classes 2-4 elsewhere) The kayaks "duckies" are a blast and you should at least try it! Fun, but hard work. These guys are legit. We rented duckies and a guide to kayak the Taylor River. Patrick was our guide. He was wonderful. He was very patient with us . He had a 72 year old, a 70 year old and a 20 year old. He was so patient with us and we learned so much. I learned how to get off rocks for sure. The last half of the trip was lots better. I think it was sinking into our heads (the older ones) what to do. I would highly recommend Patrick as your guide for kayaking. read more

Just got back to Austin, Tx after spending a few days in Lake City, Co. While there, 5 of us all but one being at least 59 yrs and never having rafted before. We took a class 3 ride down the Upper Taylor. Drew was our guide. What a great leader he was too. We enjoyed the whole experience so much that we can't wait to go again. The entire business is run like a well oiled machine. Every employee that we encountered was beyond friendly and helpful. They Genuinely love their job. Everything about this experience was great. And I think the driving force behind our wonderful trip was Jeremy our river guide. We were a group of three -- one of which tends to be fearful of outdoor experiences due to never having done many. She LOVED it! Two of us had only ever been on a raft with an oar rig where the guide did all the paddling. So, this was a different experience for us too. All I can say is that it was SO FUN to be involved in the navigation of the raft. Unfortunately with Colorado's low snow last winter, the rivers are running low, but that didn't detract much. Jeremy made it really fun with his corny (but good) jokes, his rafting stories, and his "captainly" commands (TWO FORWARD!). At the take-out, we had a sense of accomplishment and all agreed it was the highlight of our 4th of July visit to Crested Butte. In fact, we want to go again next year (snow and higher waters willing) and try the Upper Taylor trip. This is a great company -- friendly and fun staff, very accommodating, lots of clear instructions with an emphasis on safety, the boathouse has everything you need including bathrooms and changing rooms AND all the gear you could need.
