The vibe in here is just immaculate. They have a pretty good number of books (especially current bestsellers) given it isn't a big place, and it's nice that it directly connects with the coffee shop next door. There was plenty of seating inside too, and free street parking. The book sellers were very knowledgeable too, I heard them giving recs to some customers. I found my way into Townie expecting the usual bookstore, and instead discovered a veritable buffet of some of the most beautiful, provocative, engaging reads I haven't ever heard of (but am longing to know) all in one tidy little boutique. It's pretty, tightly organized, easy to navigate, and sure to delight for anyone on your list - a reminder of what we've been feverishly scrolling for in one simple shop. I love bookstores. Favorites include Collected Works in Santa Fe, my home town, and Prairie LIghts in Iowa City, Iowa, but a close runner-up is Townie Books in Crested Butte. It's an intimate store with lots and lots of recommendations by employees, and an amazingly varied selection. I always, always visit Townie's when I am here. And I always buy. They have an extraordinary collection of children's books, and a great variety of outdoors/wildlife/environmental books. I can't say enough good things about this place. A decadent sweet spot in the middle of Crested Butte! I found tons of cool things when I stopped into the location. From a magnificently illustrated anatomy book, an amazing pride t-shirt, and a passel of cool blank books, Townie has it all. This is a fantastic book store located in Crested Butte. The building is combined with a coffee shop. There are a few tables and chairs outside and people were always sitting out there drinking coffee, meeting friends, playing musical instruments, or soaking up the fun. The bookstore is small but packed with so many great things. I appreciated books about the local area, trails, and nature. The overall selection of books was so vast which made it hard for me to narrow down my purchases. I also enjoyed some of the "extras" including notebooks and stickers. I overheard the staff calling customers about their special orders, and providing book recommendations, which were super useful. This is a gem, and I hope to visit again soon! read more

A little gem I cannot get tired of visiting year after year. They carry a good variety and the staff is always helpful. They're not overpriced like some other small town bookstores are. The set up also works great for me with the attached coffee shop. I wish they were open until a bit later. read more

It's a small bookshop, but it has a little bit of everything! Summer reads, non-fiction, books for kids, travel books, self-help books, etc. Although it's limited in terms of space, they did an excellent job of picking relevant subjects/books that people visiting Crested Butte might enjoy. I even found Doctor Who Mad Libs (and a variety of other Mad Libs), which seemed like something completely random and unexpected. Nice and quiet, but also a social spot since it shares a wall with a coffeeshop. read more

This is one of my favorite bookstores in the country, primarily because their YA selection is terrific. It's not huge, but the books are thoughtfully selected. I visit every time I'm in CB and always spend a small fortune. My nearly 11 year old loves it, too! read more

This place is awesome! ... a friendly, local, book store with a great selection ... in the same building as Rumors Coffee and Tea ... with a shared seating area with lots of great places to hang out. This is one of the best bookstores of any size. The store is stocked full of a wide range of both local authors and NY Times bestsellers. There are books for all ages and all reading interests. Not only is the selection good but those that work in the store are friendly and know their stuff. This is a must go to spot if you're in Crested Butte, CO. read more
