I had the ribs and chicken. The chicken was completely dried out (like leather dry) and had no flavor. The ribs were flavorless, but at least they were cooked properly. The only half-way decent item was the coleslaw. The place is also dumpy and dated looking. The awful meal was twenty-some dollars, which was too much for the small tasteless portions. Looking for a good breakfast on the way to Legoland and Yelp pointed us here. We're from Texas and immediately felt right at home. Very friendly hostesses and staff and you tell Shack's has been here for a long time. A very good sign. Sunday morning around 10 and we had to park around back. The menu warns not to expect fast food. They prepare the food with care so be patient Corned beef hash doesn't have peppers or onions. Yea! But you can add them if you're into that kinda thing. Sausage (made onsite) and provolone omelet was good bit wish they offered cheddar. Hash browns - Again you can add onions, etc if you want but not sure why anyone would. ;-) Sausage gravy was just the right accompaniment for the hash browns and the tasty biscuit. May try the home fries next time. Pancakes were very not sweet at all so I can see adding some blueberries next time. We ordered some crispy bacon and it was crispy and delicious. We felt both restrooms could use a bit of cleaning. And it was a bit warm in the restaurant so we might wait till the weather turns cooler for our next visit. read more

This down falls:: 1. In need of a remodel ( dirty tile floors and Gas station Bathrooms (dirty) 2. Double the price of similar restaurants in the area. The bill for two people for lunch was 27 bucks. This place has small portions of food. The pork sandwich is nothing more than chopped ham from Winn-Dixie. It's not real barbecue. The baked beans were straight from can. The french fries have been under a hot lamp for hours you can tell. The portion size for the sides was only 2 ounces per cup. Very small. 3. This restaurant should buy stock and bounty towels. Everywhere you look from the silverware to the bathroom to the table. There was bounty towels. Cheap ones.... for 27 bucks I expect napkins. 4. The staff was friendly.. 5. The waitress offered a dessert. I was afraid to get it because I would think it would come in a 2 ounce cup with a bounty towel wrapped around it. Very disappointed in this place over priced. Terrible! First the food wasn't very good. I got 2 eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. I picked the $8.10 breakfast. The waitress asked me if I wanted links or patties, I chose links. However unknown to me links are smoked sausage and they cost $10.35. Most restaurants have pasties or link as their basic meal and the waitress never said there was a different price. Here they don't and fail to say there is a different price for links! BTW, the eggs were the smallest I've ever had; they must use small chickens. My waitress was Cathy C and she was terrible. She never checked on me. When I mentioned that my bill was wrong, she was indignant. I complained to the manager and she was arrogant and worthless. Their fried chicken is amazing and totally worth the wait! The sliced pork and beef were also really good - tender and smoky. Most of the sides - green beans, cole slaw, mashed potatoes - were great, but the mac and cheese wasn't cheesy enough. I wasn't too disappointed though since everything else was on point. I love trying new places that are not chain restaurants usually the small places never disappoint. This place however did our greet at door was pleasant we were seated at table and that was the end of our great service. Waited for awhile before waitress came to greet us at table and it was as if we were bothering her. She took order and after awhile decided to bring us our drinks. Stopped in for a late lunch expecting this to be an all out bbq restaurant only to find it's more of a typical greasy spoon that serves some bbq foods. We ordered a shrimp kids meal, a turkey club sandwich and the pulled pork. The food itself is okay, the service was good, the staff is friendly overall. They do have 3 different bbq sauces which I'm fairly certain are of their own making. The decor feels more like an old cafe than a bbq restaurant. You have to go here!!! Went here after LEGOLAND with our family of 5. We have 3 boys 6-13. They ate EVERYTHING that they ordered. This place has real good BBQ/smoked meat. I can't wait to come back. Disclaimer: this is not southern style BBQ. If you're local to Lakeland and have been around a hot minute, this will remind you of Jaybird's. If you're looking for pulled pork and brisket, you're not going to find it here. However, the thinly sliced smoked meats were delicious, the pork was my favorite. I would have preferred mine to be hot, but room temp was sufficient. The beans were good, the straight fries very tasty. Our server was nice, attentive without being imposing, and she left us a pitcher of tea, which is something I really appreciate. We got the picnic for two - five meats, beans, slaw, two potato selections, and four slices of garlic bread. Plenty of food for at least two, three or four if you're not hungry. Located in our neighborhood, we've seen lots of cars at this location on many days. Today we decided to try it for lunch. We both tried the lunch dinner of beef and pork with different sides. Although everyone has their own tastes, we found the barbecue beans too sweet and the coleslaw too sour. The beef and pork however were just excellent, and we got plenty of it, the garlic bread was just right, and our waitress could not have been nicer. All in all I think will go back again and try some other things, simply by passing those things that we just weren't our favorites.
