Ribs - 1 lb. Brisket - 1 lb. Collard Greens

Peebles BBQ has been around since I was a kid and is true Polk County-style barbecue. The meats are simply salted and smoked, and the family-style atmosphere is always welcoming. Weekly specials are regularly posted on social media, which keeps things interesting. Today we sampled the ribs, brisket, and collard greens. The ribs had plenty of smoky flavor and paired well with the original vinegar sauce, though these spare ribs can run a bit dry and tend to have a crispy membrane on the back. The sliced brisket is a newer Friday-only special. It had great bark and that classic simple seasoning, but the slices were cut thick--more like tri-tip than fork-tender brisket. Some pieces also had fat that wasn't fully rendered. It would be nice to see an option for lean or fatty brisket in the future, especially since it's served as a full pound in a to-go container. The collard greens were more bitter than usual and could've used additional seasoning to give them more pop. We order from Peebles regularly and often get family-style to-go meals. Considering they're only open Thursday through Saturday and seasonally, we know there's more great BBQ coming--and we're hopeful to see a few improvements moving forward.

BBQ ADVENTURE AT ONE OF OUR FAVORITE STOPS!!! This is just an update for 2025. Pricing has gone up a bit, but what hasn't!!!! Check out my pics for the menu with updated pricing. The 2 can done is still great and filling. Bonus this year more dessert options!!!! Everything was great as usual. Flys were a bit much this time, but it's like sitting outside with your food at one of their picnic tables. If you can think that way about it!!! The service was spectacular as always super friendly and attentive!!! The Ambiance, just to hit the 3 points is still the same a shack with great food!!! AS ALWAYS TRY IT FOR YOURSELF!!!

Totally enjoyed a pulled pork overstuffed ovrer sized baked potato for my maiden voyage into Peebles. Entering was a little confusing as far as seat yourself? where to order? Everyone was bustling around and the customers all seemed like regulars or nearby construction workers. It is a very basic location (shed-like or outdoors/indoors) complete with banging front door. Parking lot filled up quickly. Servers were nice but all business/quick.

This is definitely one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" spots! From the outside, it might look a bit intimidating (to say the least, lol), but once you step inside, you're welcomed by the mouthwatering aroma of smoky meats. The menu is short, and we followed our waitress's recommendation to try the ribs with mac & cheese--honestly, they were fantastic! We also ordered the chopped chicken, which was pretty good. The banana bread pudding was a nice sweet treat to end the meal. Unfortunately, everything else we tried fell below average. That said, a big shoutout to our waitress--she was incredibly kind and sweet, which made our visit much more enjoyable. Overall, it's worth checking out for the ribs and great service!

This is one of those barbecue joints you drive by and think it's either going to be spectacular or a disaster. It has a beautiful ol' southern charm that's down and dirty, basic, and has the hidden gem vibe that could be delicious. Sadly, my experience with the ribs was an absolute disaster. The meat on the ribs were slightly less dry than sand. Had a mild flavor of vinegar, not that I mind that, but it was the only flavor to be found in the rib. I could not taste any kind of rub let alone the wood it was smoked in. They seemed to be cooked like the pitmaster hated ribs and had a vendetta against them. I am going to guess they spent far too much time in the chafing dish or the pit. These are not St. Louis style ribs. What I got seemed to be the full spare rib so it does give you some extra meat where I did find some flavor and moisture due to the extra fat. The meat that was supposed to be on the ribs themselves, what you want to eat, where the sickly dry potion of the meal. I hate to sound harsh, but it was almost an embarrassment to call it a rib. My sides were baked beans and mac & cheese. The baked beans were decent though slightly more sweet than I care for. The mac & cheese also was good but the macaroni was so over cooked you could've eaten it through a straw. If you like a sweet BBQ sauce, this will tick your box and give you a low dose of the 'betus. In the end, I hate to shit on what seems to be a decent Mom and Pop establishment. But when I am paying $20 to a professional, it should be better than what I can make at home on my Egg. Did I bring this to the attention of the manager? No. I had a limited amount of time while on break and I had eaten most of what was served to me because I had a hole in my stomach to fill. Was I looking for a free meal? No. But when I ask one of the servers, what is the best thing to order from the menu and I am told ribs and this is what I get, I'm going to share my experience.

The first solid bbq place that I have found in Florida. I got the sampler. The ribs were not great. The chopped beef was okay, very juicy. The chopped chicken was good. The pulled pork was best. The baked beans are very good, sweet. The Mac and cheese was very cheesy but nothing special. I was hoping for a Smokey Mac and cheese. The potato salad was okay. The baked potato is huge. If you order the butter and sour cream on the side you may be surprised at how much comes in it. I recommend taking control of your portion and get it on the side. The salad, was actually really good. I wasn't expecting this as this is a meat place. The salad was fresh and had a lot of toppings. The dressing was okay, served on the side. The banana pudding was good. I wouldn't get it again, but I tried it. Next time... baked potato, butter and cream on the side, covered in pulled pork. With salad. Bam. Perfect meal for me. (I saw others getting this and it looked spot on!)

This place has the feel of an old school pit bbq spot because it is, pit in the middle of the open air restaurant. Ribs were a B+ sausage C pulled pork B chopped beef C Mac B collard greens A prices were fair and service is good

The General Van Fleet included brisket, pulled pork, ribs, pulled chicken and sausage with your choice of Bread and we chose Texas Toast. This was more than enough for two people to share. I am a brisket person and this brisket was very moist, a bit more fatty than I prefer. The brisket was also a bit more salty than I prefer (mind you, I don't ever salt anything). The sausage was pretty perfect tasting and texture. The pulled pork was probable pretty spot on, even though I'm not a big pork lover. The chicken was chicken....pretty good with any of the three BBQ sauces on the table. The ribs were tasty, and didn't need sauce. The sides were all pretty good. The beans were really good, Sweet Apple Coke Slaw tasted really good and fresh, the Brunswick Stew was a bit different than we are used to and more like a chili and good. The Mac n cheese was creamy and ok. The grilled cheese is made with 5 cheeses and perfectly made.....this is something definitely recommended to consider ordering when you visit. Service is friendly and outstanding. We are excited to return to try some other menu items including the Couch Potato (a fully loaded potato including your choice of meat). The dining room is medium size with tables for two, four and 6. They offer dine in and carry out also. For our first visit, we really enjoyed this and will return!

I ordered a spare rib plate with sides of fries and mac-n-cheese. The dish also came with a piece of garlic bread. To start, the ribs were a bit tough and hardly had any smoke or bark flavors. I love a rib that requires some "chew" to get them off the bone, but the toughness mentioned was not of that variety. Bottled sauces (on the tables) were alright, but nothing special. I will say the seasoned fries and gooey mac-n-cheese were both good. Lastly, the garlic bread had very little seasoning on it, more like a dry piece of toast really. Had heard such good things, but this visit really disappointed me and my (extended) family who also had similar feelings about the meals they had chosen.

This restaurant is pretty cool and there were plenty of people already indulging, so our hopes were high. Three of us ordered the chopped brisket plate, with x2 sides. The menus listed the cost at $17.49 which seemed reasonable. We ordered a few appetizers, some drinks and a plate for the kids (who ate at the festival) to split. They were very short staffed with only two people working the floor, one of which was the overworked (as far as we were concerned) bartender who took our order at a table. The bartender did her bartending and the drinks were very good. However, whoever was working the kitchen did a subpar job; and the bill was fouled up. My brisket plate included sides of onion rings and fried okra, along with cornbread. I personally was not happy with my selections, taste-wise. The brisket was fairly flavorless and seemed "old" to me. The onion slices within the rings were watery, albeit the rings themselves were firm (not much flavor however). The okra, again, did not have much flavor to them and I failed to finish them. The cornbread was nothing special either. The others felt their food selections were "okay", but this is my review and I disagreed with them - it could've (should've) been better. Upon getting the bill we discovered that we were charged $20.49 for those advertised $17.49 plates. There also was an added 'Florida Tea' cocktail that was not only not delivered, but never ordered. I recommend you check your bills thoroughly before paying. This may have been an anomaly, but maybe not. As for me personally I won't choose to return here anytime soon, unless I am outvoted by the company I keep.
