When we first moved to Newport, Ruwe Family Pharmacy became our pharmacy of choice…read more Sadly, our insurance company has forced us to move the vast majority of our prescriptions to one of the horrible faceless big chains - so much for 'freedom of choice in America" - meaning we can only take our short term Rx's to Ruwe. All the staff here have been nothing but helpful, friendly, personable and understanding. Whereas assistants and pharmacists at the 'big chain' often 'roll their eyes' when you ask them a question, Ruwe's people seem open to any query you send in their direction. One time I had a question about some special eye drops I used when living in Europe that I couldn't find over here anywhere. Turns out they were only available by prescription only and that even with a prescription were hard to obtain, but Ruwe said they would get them if I needed them. Of course it turned out that our insurers wouldn't cover them and the cost was a preposterous $60 for a tiny one-month bottle ($6 in England over-the-counter, go figure). Astonishingly, the pharmacist personally called me a few days later to say she had found an alternate supplier for $10 less, as if to prove their commitment to good customer service. They even delivered a medication to my door when I wasn't able to get to them before they closed, and on another occasion when they didn't have enough quantity of one pill, they again offered to drive the balance to me free of charge as soon as they had them back in stock. This kind of attitude always makes a difference to me and the wife, so we do try and buy all our sundry OTC pharmacy needs from them whenever we can as we hate the idea of them ever succumbing to corporate/supermarket competition. I really cannot fault this place. I just wish we could give them more of our business as they deserve it FAR more than the big chains whose place in history will only be noted for the ugly architecturally-soulless buildings they have erected on way too many city and residential street corners across the country.

They can make whatever drug into liquid (any flavor from chicken, to fish or beef), capsule, and even transdermal gel (placed inside ear flap) if you can't pill your pet. All of this is done with a quick turnaround time and at reasonable cost! Most recently I had acquired some powder from my Vet specialist that I was to mix with my dogs food. Yeah no, too bitter no matter what I hid it in. These guys helped me pick out the right size empty capsule and gave me tips on how to easily fill it! The capsules were reasonably priced and they got them ready right away!

I have accepted the way they do business because it is different than regular drug stores or box stores with a pharmacy. The cost is always different and not always covered by insurance. So doing your homework for the best prices is necessary. Hills Pharmacy does not have the kindest most professional staff and to me need some training in this area. The pharmacy to me charges way too much for the compounding medications with no exceptions for Seniors. I am out $879.94 because they have overcharged me for these medications. I changed pharmacies because of the bad attitude of the employees and have found they have been scamming me all this money slowly on a monthly basis. I am a 72 year old on Social Security. My insurance does not cover this prescription so I thought this pharmacy would be more understanding and give a fair price. They were not and I have found out that I was SCAMMED by these people is disturbing and makes me mad that Seniors are taken advantage of. $879.94 is a lot of money and not something I can just give up. I am sending this notice so that others who find themselves in this situation will be careful with who you deal with and make sure you are getting a fair price. These are just the figures from receipts I have and does not include taxes or shipping. So we are sure the amount scammed is $2,000.00.

This is a wonderful independent and locally owned pharmacy!…read more I started coming here because the eye drops I require are very expensive... but their manufacturer offers a significant discount at independent pharmacies! From the start these guys have been super helpful and friendly! Most recently, I stopped in to drop off a new paper prescription, expecting to wait or be told to come back. When the pharmacist heard me say I wanted to check to see if I needed a new discount card, he stopped what he was doing and came over to run the script through to check for me! It was indeed expired, so he looked up a new one for me on the spot! I then figured id need to come back to pick it up but he said he'd fill it now! Unfortunately he realized it was something they needed to order, but their orders always arrive next day! I continue to be impressed by their level of customer service! The place itself isnt super big, but there are several chairs if you need to wait, along with a small selection of items youd find at a pharmacy for purchase. There is even a greeting card section!
