On course A, hole #8, par 5 from the gold tees. I hit my driver flush, tracking straight along the left side of the fairway OVER the large leafless tree for about 150 yards. This left me about 151 yards in to an elevated green that is wider than it is deep. I pulled my 357 Performance Hybrid and focused on making good contact. I hit it flush, It started left in a high arc and drifted right, landed the green and rolled right at almost 45 degrees to within 2 feet of the pin for a tap in Eagle. my first! There was elation!

Someone that provides information without having to wait until he feels like letting us in on his little secret. We would love to play there more but his demeanor never changes . otherwise the course is in ok shape- fairways are a bit sparse, tee boxes appear to be greening up nicely, looks like a lot of new sand in the bunkers, and the greens are a little bumpy and patchy but not bad.

If you really want to hear about it, the first thing that depresses you about playing golf down in…read moreTampa is the sheer amount of phony Florida golfers that are v anity handicaps the second is the sunshine sticking to everything like warm glue and beating down on you constantly for ten months. Back home in New York, when I hit a pure 2-iron off the deck, the cold air bites your face a few months out of the year and lets you know you're alive, but out here at Heritage Isles Golf & Country Club, you're just sweating through your shirt before you even tee off. It kills me, it really does. I carried an 8.7 handicap at the time, not that I like bragging about it, because as soon as you start getting good at something, if you aren't careful, you start showing off, and then you aren't good mentally anymore, yiu can become a jerk, so I figured I'd try to tear this place apart from the back Gold tees at nearly seven thousand yards. But Florida golf is a different playing experience from the northeast. Half the course is built right over some swampy wetlands, and every single hole has water sitting on it, waiting to swallow up a perfectly struck draw that a little unnoticed invisible wind gust just ate. Water holes are like a godly must here, every hole has some and its depressing and weird. You hit a tight, beautiful shot right down the fairway, and suddenly it hops off this sticky Bermuda grass and disappears into a ditch where an alligator is probably sitting around pretending to be sleeping, but ready to go full on prehistoric if you get too close. The par-3s are long as hell, too. You get up to sixteen, playing almost two hundred and thirty yards over water and swamp, and all these old guys in pastel polo shirts are standing by their carts giving each other advice. It's phony as a three-dollar bill. Here's my advice for them "stop talking so much, just grip it 'n rip it". They've got these wooden footbridges everywhere connecting the fairways over the marshes, and you rumble your cart across and over them feeling like you're on some staged safari tour watching bad golf, instead of playing a serious round. I ended up shooting a seventy seven, which made me feel pretty depressed because I missed a six-footer for birdie on eighteen after cutting the dogleg over the lake. The green was fast and smooth enough, I'll give them that, but the whole setup just makes me miss northern turf. If you're a low handicap stuck in Tampa, it'll test your short game and keep you honest, but the endless palm trees and country-club phoniness will make you want to call up somebody and go grab a drink instead.

The golf course features a handful of holes on the back nine on a giant lake with very nice scenery. The course was very well maintained and was in excellent shape. The tee boxes were superb, the fairways were lush and full of grass, and the greens rolled perfectly. Around the greens were manicured neatly and the course had no flaws whatsoever. Hats off to the superintendent. The layout really fit my eye with some challenging driving holes calling for different shot shapes throughout the round. The greens were a good size, although being precise with your approach shots is the key to shooting a good score here. The greens have plenty of slope to them, so it's crucial not only to hit the green, but to knock it somewhat close to the flagstick. At just over 7,000 yards from the tips, the golf course can play long, especially with a little bit of wind, which is fun, yet also challenging. My favorite thing about the Country Club of Winter Haven is that you really don't feel like you're in Florida. It's very quiet and peaceful on the course and the birds chirping are about all that you hear. If you have the opportunity to play a round of golf here, you won't be disappointed.

This is an old course and was designed in 1923 but has had improvements and changes to holes to keep it updated and challenging. You can tell from the putting green that they were rolling fast and furious! The range was not big but enough to serve it purpose. Chipping area with bunkers helped the warm up session. Tee boxes were in very good shape so it was easy to get a good set up on every tee shot. The fairways were immaculate and the rough was kind short so it was forgiving if you were not straight. Bunkers were all in perfect shape and raked to perfection. There was always at least one side of the hole that had an out of bounds so you had to have some accuracy. Decent amount of water on the course too so it kept you honest! The silver lining to this course is the greens though. The surface was immaculate with no discoloration or any weeds anywhere. The stimp meter was high and the ball was rolling fast and true. While they didn't seem like they were too challenging they also had a sneaky undulation to them so there wasn't one flat green! This is definitely a course to play if you get a chance!
