We visited this store after hearing that it has really nice furniture without pesky salesmen following you around at other large chain stores. It's in a building that was built in 1893 and the store opened in 1897. Walking through the building, you get a throw-back feeling with the old elevator, tin ceiling, staircase, crawling floors, and door weights to close large doors. They have a great furniture gallery that is reasonably priced with items "as is." However, if you want to customize a piece, there is an increase for sure, so you have to weigh pros and cons, but SO many options! The personnel know all their products very well and are very nice and low-key. Definitely a place to check out (with a private side parking lot) for a unique shopping experience. read more

We decided to stop by Scherer Furniture to check out their closing sales. This furniture store has been in operation for over 100 years, but unfortunately is closing now. We walked through this historic building, checked out their furniture and carpets, and then left. Their sales people are very attentive and follow you around the store checking if you have any questions. We loved that this place not only had furniture, but we also felt like we were walking through a museum. If you havent gone, you have to visit before they permanently close their doors in the next 8 days. read more

I went to this store a couple of years ago so that would put us in pandemic mode... the greatest issue was delivery time. It could take months to get the furniture. If you are furniture shopping and want quality GO TO SHERER'S. After frustrating attempts to find a USA manufactured/made leather sofa, I was referred to Scherer. WOW, Jim is very knowledgeable about the manufacturer's they carry. I landed on McKinley and just ordered my leather samples. Extensive selection, high quality brands each having their own healthy selection of leathers and fabric. I expect to place my order next week and have also found chairs to decide on. Pricing is very competitive and the best part is good pricing on high quality furniture .... unlike other places that are 'crafted' in the USA but made in china with engineered wood frames. How could I have never heard of Scherer Furniture, the oldest furniture store in Western New York?! I hereby dub it the crown jewel of Buffalo furniture stores. Not one place compares. Their mission could be summed up as value, quality, price. Parking is adjacent to the spectacular brick building, where they've been located since 1939. Walk in and you are floating on wood floors that have seen lots of foot traffic since the fourth generation brothers who run the place took over. With low overhead, they have the luxury of selling quality hardwood furniture for less than suburban sprawls that all seem to have pesky salespeople trailing you like detectives. Here we were free to browse and knew where to direct any questions. The solid wood pieces from tables to wine servers that really caught my eye made you want to just try to take in all there is to see. Traditional style, mission, and some contemporary were in the showroom. It was somewhat crowded with displays but made it exciting. They have breathtaking live edge (hickory is what we saw, other hardwood available, oak, cherry, black walnut) and reclaimed tables. There was even a wall displaying funky to traditional giant clocks. Jim showed us a just arrived kitchen table set in the front window. On the side was an old St. Joe's class picture. He pointed to one of the young men, top left, his grandfather. When invited to see the next floor we were shown the freight elevator right out of some spooky movie scene. I rather froze in disbelief that I was expected to hop in and Jim let me know not to worry, that he was "driving". OR I could take the stairs. Throwing caution to the wind I indeed stepped in and that was a slow ride up with nothing frightening at all. That floor was maze-like as well, with quality furniture pieces invitingly displayed. Couches, chairs, fabric selections from there to here. This is a place you're delighted to do business with. Good quality furniture that will last (no sawdust and glue junk) and that is truly affordable from at least 22 manufacturers including custom Amish made. We have selected a kitchen table and chair set that is so fitting for our taste and style, with interesting details from the curved wood backs to the shaped legs. My friends and I stummbled upon this gem on a Wednesday afternoon after having lunch in the area. What attracted us into the store was the awesome window display. A live edge dining table and bench that were beautifully crafted. When we went inside we were greeted warmly by one of the staff(I assumed he was the owner from the way he explained things.) He took us through the first floor of the store and gave us detailed information about a lot of the pieces. It was very interesting to know the intricacies of the wood, craftsmanship and where the peices were made. They have pieces from all over the world, some using American wood. He also showed us some catalogs and all the options available in specific styles. We were in the store for about 45 min, just browsing. Anyone who is looking for quality furniture at a price lower than any competitor, must stop here. read more

Such a hidden gem! Excellent experience, no one is pushy. Really happy with the quality of furniture sold here. And so many choices. Most furniture is Kincaid, with another floor devoted to Amish made. Good mix of trendy and classic, only hardwood (ie no particle board/vaneer). Selection runs the gammet for all rooms. Prices are fair for quality! Will definitely do all of my future furniture shopping here and highly recommend to anyone in the market! read more

I cannot recommend Scherer's Furniture highly enough! I was looking for a store that carried not only fine, but made in the USA leather furniture for my living room. I was introduced to Kevin, one of the owners, by my interior designer and was instantly impressed with not only the amazing selection of beautiful pieces, but also by the no pressure easy friendly manner of Kevin and the entire staff. The prices are more than fair ALWAYS, without special "sales" which we all know are pretty silly. Needless to say, I received everything as promised and even the delivery guys were awesome and thoughtful. I love dealing with family businesses in Buffalo as I have one myself, something about having your name on the door raises the level of service. The only downside to this store is I wound up buying more pieces than planned because they were so well designed and finely crafted, I had to have them. I guess that's on me LOL read more
