Very challenging to make an appointment even for existing patients (my father who is in his 90's…read morehas been seeing Dr James Lee for years); The people who answer the phone display a complete lack of professionalism and basic courtesy - bordering on extreme rudeness - wasting your time with irrelevant comments instead of just giving you the earliest available dates for the doctor to schedule a visit. The appointment was made for July 28 more than 3 weeks out. I have put up with this every single time and decided to write a review today. The front office does the doctors a great dis-service.

I contacted Northern Valley ENT after some local ENT specialists either kept me on hold for 30+…read moreminutes (to make an appointment??) or had no availability today. The staff answered my calls promptly and was able to squeeze me in to treat an issue with my ear. They have pretty solid COVID restrictions, with asks to put in all paperwork and payment virtually to minimize any time spent in the office. There is also a waiting area outside as well, though they ask you to stay in your car until they call you when the doctor is almost ready. I saw Dr. Scherl who was very professional in his bedside manner and had plenty of expertise. He was able to treat and resolve my issue quickly and took care of the problem gently. The staff was also very professional and friendly. Overall I thought this was a very good experience and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for ENT care.

I had a severe deviated septum that impeded my ability to breathe through one nostril, prompting me to schedule surgery with him. Now, a week post-operative, I am experiencing remarkable improvement. His professionalism is evident, and his compassionate nature makes the surgical experience feel welcoming. I sincerely hope that all doctors possess such qualities. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gold for his exceptional care.

Very Disappointing Experience…read more I had a very disappointing and upsetting experience with Dr. Gold. I went to the ENT because I was experiencing speech difficulties, including slurring and difficulty pronouncing certain words, and wanted to determine whether there could be any vocal cord or ENT-related issue, particularly in connection with TMJ. From the moment I walked into his office, I felt dismissed. He seemed more concerned about his lunch order than meeting and listening to a new patient. I explained that I had already been evaluated by a neurologist, including blood work and physical testing, which had been normal, and that I was scheduled for a brain MRI to rule out other possibilities. Unfortunately, Dr. Gold was cold, judgmental, and dismissive of my concerns about TMJ. He did not explain what he was doing during the examination and simply put an instrument down my throat and told me everything looked normal. What was most disturbing was that, despite saying he could not diagnose ALS, he suggested that my symptoms were similar to the onset of ALS and then told me I "shouldn't go to a dark place." I found this incredibly irresponsible and frightening, particularly coming from an ENT who was not conducting a neurological evaluation. When I told him that his comments had made me very worried, his response was that he was "worried for me." There is a huge difference between appropriately recommending that a patient follow up with a neurologist and introducing a frightening diagnosis into the conversation without the appropriate expertise or context. His comments caused me significant anxiety for days. Thankfully, my subsequent brain MRI was normal. I understand that doctors cannot always provide immediate answers, but patients deserve compassion, clear communication, and responsible handling of uncertainty. I left this appointment feeling frightened and dismissed rather than reassured or supported. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Dr. Gold.
