Although the others have already said it, I just have to add my 2 cents. Robert I found online through the many many positive reviews of his work, with not a single negative one to be found. When I called him out of the blue I was lucky he happened to be in my area and took a look within 20 minute of my original call!! As the others have said, Robert IS polite, professional, reliable and takes time to explain what needs to be done for the job. It's obvious he takes great pride in his work as the new hot water heater (along with all of the piping and connections he had to change) actually LOOKS good as well. Because of a previously scheduled vacation I did have to wait some days to get my new water heater installed but I got such a great feeling from my initial meeting with Robert that I would rather 'tough it out' than go with someone else, so I waited, taking showers over at a friends house. After seeing the installation and upgrades Robert did to the piping, connections, etc. I am so glad I did wait because I don't think anyone could or would have done a better job and Robert made sure to make the control panel accessible in a very limited space (unlike whoever had installed the previous water heater). Major plumbing issue in the middle of a Nor'easter, found a name on a local neighborhood media thread with great reviews....so I called. Robert returned my call almost immediately and said he would stop at my house on his way home that evening. He did and spent time discussing our situation with us. Robert came back, completed a very long and involved repair, was incredibly neat and clean, and charged a very fair price. Over the years, I have had a few different plumbers do work in my home, and I will say I have never had a plumber as meticulous as Robert. He cleaned the area he worked in and left it in perfect condition. He took the time to explain everything he did and answer any questions we had about the repair. I found myself with a minor emergency after a Nor'easter came through Ramsey dumping over 14 inches of snow and downing trees and power lines. I had used Robert Schiff before but during much more normal conditions. When I called him I expected to hear "what day next week" is good for you. Before I could mention that my need was a minor emergency he asked "what time tomorrow is good for you." He showed up on time (as usual) and made the repair in 35 minutes. Even though I mentioned my concern about asking him to drive through streets with fallen trees and power lines, he never wavered from his desire to help me in my time of need. Professional, friendly and I felt comfortable with him in my home. We had a leak coming from our attic...all of our mechanicals are up there so we really had no idea what it might be, but it was definitely a little wet. Robert was at my home within a half hour of speaking to him. After he diagnosed our likely problem, (an overflowed AC pan), he gave me an action plan of how to monitor this on my own (which I'm more than capable of doing). My wife and I bought an abandoned home in 2013 and prior to our purchase, Robert fixed burst and broken pipes to get ready for our home inspection. We hired him after we bought the home for a major re-pipe of one of our grey water lines, three new shower/bath faucets, a kitchen sink faucet and installation of a new water heater. Robert is a true craftsman! His work is meticulous because he's a perfectionist. He replaced an old shower diverter for us which involved cutting open a wall and soldering new copper pipes. He did such a good job we actually waited for him to come back from vacation to install a new kitchen faucet after we changed countertops.
