The bus stop is right in front of this place so it's super easy to get to. I got here a few minutes after they opened. So, there were quite a few people without being crowded. Except some of the people who were there were obnoxiously loud and it echoes through the cave. There are signs posted to be quiet but some people choose to ignore signs. There are parts that are a bit slick, some parts you have to bend a little bit as the ceiling is low, there are steps and stairs, it's chilly since it's a cave. Si, be sure to bring a jacket and wear the right shoes. Be mindful of those with mobility issues, they might have to wait for you at the restaurant (it's still a steep trek though) while you tour the cave. A lot of people would take breaks on the way to the entrance. Bring water. Each part of the cave is numbered so just follow the numbers - however the arrows can be confusing. I got to number 18 and didn't know where to go I ended going back to where I came from so I walked back to 18, walked the opposite direction and made it to 19-22 before exiting. "According to a legend, St. Beatus lived here in the 2nd century, who was believed to be one of the Irish messengers of the faith. After his arrival, Beatus is said to have driven away the dragon dwelling in the cave and then settled there to preach the teachings of Christianity and heal the sick." You'll see St. Beatus' cell, stalactites, stalagmites, and grottoes. You can have a nice view of Lake Thun from here.

The views from the top and outside are truly magical, overlooking a massive lake that makes the entire visit feel surreal. QUICK heads-up... there is quite a bit of walking and many steps, and some areas can be slippery, so it may not be ideal for anyone with limited mobility. That said, if you're able to do the walk, it's 100% worth it. A truly beautiful and memorable experience.

The castle museum covers five floors including both cultural and historic displays. Each floor was organized with a theme and the displays are also noted in English. There are also some educational points for kids as well as a gift shop on the first floor. At the top of the tower, there are 4 rooms with amazing views of the city. These were the best views I've seen and on a clear day you see for miles -- the mountains and landscapes across Switzerland! You can just image how much the area has changed over the centuries but I am sure the view was always amazing. This was a great museum with lots to see a do. I enjoyed the new exhibits in the attic area and the logical flow of the museum overall. Sometimes castles are cold and filled with a lot of nothing, but this was quite the opposite! It is an easy walk up from the train station and although paths are marked here and there, just use your eyes to follow the stairs up to the castle. Also, the old town area is also a cute spot to walk around and stop for lunch! Note the shortened hours in the winter: April to October : daily 10.00-17.00 November to January : every Sunday 13.00-16.00 (24th December to 31st December 2017 open daily) February and March : every day 13.00-16.00

It's the one with the triangular-shaped Kaspar Meglinger "Dance of Death" paintings. I'm guessing that they've been restored over the years. They actually looked well-preserved considering they've been exposed to the elements under the trusses of the bridge since the mid-17th century. The skeletal death guy in all the paintings is kind of creepy. Oh, and there is a Grim Reaper too. Can you imagine walking over this bridge at night while looking at all those spider-webbed paintings? We decided to take this route on the way to visiting the towers along the Musegg Wall that once fortified the city. It also happens to be the site of the hydroelectric plant and the beaver ramp. I'm not sure if beavers actually use it, but it's there in case they need to pass over the rough downstream water to get to Lake Lucerne. It's all explained with descriptive informational markers. That whole area is kind of cool. It was interesting to see even though half the bridge was under construction at the time we were there (Sept 2025). You can still see the paintings above the scaffolding. It's definitely worthy of a cross over at some point during your stay in Lucerne.

Yelp Review 2026 #135:…read more Switzerland has a lot of water fountains. Some plain and some more ornate. Kindlifresserbrunnen is the most interesting I've seen. It's an ogre eating children carrying a sack with more children. The ogre is the equivalent of the Boogeyman meant to scare children from misbehaving. It was originally a fountain made of wood in the 1500s and was called Platzbrunnen. In 1666, the wooden fountain was replaced by this fountain called Kindlifresserbrunnen or "Fountain of the Eater of Little Children". It's a free thing to see. There are shops and restaurants nearby and it's close to Zytglogge so, it's not out of the way. Bern has plenty of interesting fountains. Be sure to check them out especially this one.

Such a great way to see Gimmelwald, Murren and the summit of the Schilthorn. When you arrive, you…read morehave the option to going to any or all of the stops. This was by far the easiest way of getting to Gimmelwald or Murren without hiking and it is the only way to the summit of the Schilthorn. The cable car takes about 6 minutes to get to Gimmelwald and about 12 to Murren. The summit is a 30 minute ride. You will need to stop at each stop and transfer to another cable car to go up higher. Buying tickets was easy and the associates speak multiple languages. We took the cable car to Murren and it was €22 round trip. We were also able to get off in Gimmelwald for a peek around the village. The staff are very friendly and each station has restrooms and are clean. The cars are a less than 20 minute drive from Interlaken on a beautiful mountain road. Try out this cable car and you won't be disappointed.

You won't regret paying the money. You just can't appreciate the beauty of these mountains until you get up there. You can buy your ticket for the cable car at the local train station or at the park. There is more to do than just look at beautiful scenery 1. Cliff walking (Free) 2. impressive, modern, interactive, fun James Bond exhibition to commemorate the making of part of the 1967 OHMSS 007 movie (Free) 3. Several restaurant 4. Rotating 360 degree Restaurant Check the weather forecast, as there's no point in going up if the mountains if they are covered in clouds. I would try to go when there are clear skies (no rain/clouds), so you can truly appreciate the sky views. You can find a 24hour live web- footage of the Views from the website to see if the skies are clear. Snow blindness is also very real. Bring your sunglasses and sunscreen. FYI VERY IMPORTANT - if you are a tourist in Switzerland - consider buying Travel pass when you go based on the number of days you stay. You get several perks of buying the Swiss Pass. 1. With this Pass- you get to ride all trains boats and buses for free. 2.With the pass you also get 50% off all Skylifts/trams taking you up to the mountain tops. FYI if you think you will save money by buying Swiss train tickets individually, you probably wont. The individual price value for a single train ticket is very expensive. Especially if you are going from major cities to country side. You may need to use several trains.

Yelp Review 2026 #154:…read more Chillon Castle in Veytaux was the inspiration for Prince Eric's castle in Disney's animated film "The Little Mermaid". Writers like Lord Byron, Victor Hugo, Mary Shelley, Charles Dickens, etc. also got inspired by this castle. I was staying in Montreux and it was a 13-minute bus ride that drops you off right in front of the castle. You can also take a train to get here. It's well-preserved as it's the only castle not destroyed by war or fire. It's a beautiful castle that's sitting on top of Lake Geneva. I was content seeing the outside of the castle despite getting free tickets to go in since I have Swiss Travel Pass. I was busy watching a couple of swans building a nest. Sometimes, I'm just not in the mood to stand in line to see dungeons, medieval art, armory, and somebody's chamber. I had other places to see and visit and didn't want to spend too much time here. But from admiring the view from outside was wonderful enough.
