It was a few years ago, but I can't imaging a worse experience than the one we endured with…read moreSchermesser. My father was transferred to them from out of state. He was a dark complected caucasian from working outside most of his life. Also, he always wore a pencil mustache his entire life. Schermesser was given a recent photograph and father's favorite suite. Private family viewing for a few hours one day and general viewing for a longer time the next were the arrangements. We were shocked to find father with a bright pink complexion(picture a lady's powder blush compact) of a new born babe and clean shaven for the 1st time in his adult life. As shocking as that was, on the day of general viewing, before transportation to the cemetery we had to pick several beetles off dad's body and were plagued with flies swarming around the casket for the entire viewing. When we complained we were told insects come in with the flowers and there is nothing that can be done about them. I'm getting old, but I have never seen Pepto Bismo Pink used for make-up, and bugs never joined in the ceremonies.

Instead of cremains at their Kent location where we started, I was told to go get them myself in Green, an hour and a half trip, or pay $100 to pick them up in Kent, and they had no intention of helping with any of that. Getting them in Green is a big problem because you have to make an appointment for only when it suits them, just between 9 and 3 which is bad enough for people who have a job but their availability to meet you is so limited it makes date and time choices way too restrictive.

They went over and above in so many ways, such as Jonathan emailing me my moms fingerprints when I told him simply in a 30 second passing that I would probably be calling to request them. Mr. Hilles and his staff made me feel like family.... even though I'm 3,000 miles away in…read moreCalifornia and had never met them before. After finding out that my grandparents headstone had been broken and knocked down, and that my grandmothers year of passing was never put on (although it had been 39 years ago), I wanted to have it standing and the date added. I had no clue who to contact, and my sister, who lives in Alliance, had experience with them and highly recommend we go through them. The ground was too wet for them to go out initially, but Mr. Hilles would go out to the cemetery and check on it and keep me updated. Once it was dry enough, not only did they remount it and fill in the base around, they got it engraved to match identically with what was engraved originally in 1969... and if that wasn't enough, they cleaned the headstone to look almost new and trimmed all of the dead branches out of the flower bush planted next to it! I really was so overwhelmed and appreciative of their genuine care and going above and beyond what I paid for them to do.... which by the way, I felt the pricing was extremely fair and reasonable too. Turns out, Mr. Hilles and my dad went to school together! What a small world! Our whole family was so grateful for the professional and outstanding service and results that we were provided.
