When I contacted Clifford-Shoemaker they were very supportive, met the plane at the airport and transferred my Dad to their funeral home. This staff was patience, caring, and put all of our worries to rest. As a BIG side note to tell you how honest and completely through his place is, my Dad's coffin was damaged in shipment and we would not have known had it not been for Steve Shoemaker. They helped us get a refund from the airlines and I can not thank him enough. I highly recommend-unless you are having an extra large event that you call and speak with this funeral home. We are in the process of making arrangements for my Mom also. We trust them and you will also.

Instead of cremains at their Kent location where we started, I was told to go get them myself in Green, an hour and a half trip, or pay $100 to pick them up in Kent, and they had no intention of helping with any of that. Getting them in Green is a big problem because you have to make an appointment for only when it suits them, just between 9 and 3 which is bad enough for people who have a job but their availability to meet you is so limited it makes date and time choices way too restrictive.

I was given the opportunity to help with the service which was a big deal to me as I too am a funeral director. Terry, the owner, went above and beyond what I am used to. He seemed to be instantly a part of the family- even drove the flowers to our house. I would use this funeral home again (assuming I lived in Akron). Once you are gone, they have no concern for your wishes, particularly to be resting in a park like setting with no big ugly headstones nearby. Even when you choose a plot in the middle of the "no headstone" area, they will sell a flower bed next to you to place a headstone. Just for money. My dear Mother is NOT resting in peace, thanks to the current managers of Chestnut Hill.
