I visited this club last Saturday with a group of classmates and at first the experience was pretty good. As I got to the end of my drink, I sipped what I thought was a piece ice. I bit into it and it was a CHUNK OF GLASS. I spoke to two people, a bartender and a manager, that repeatedly told me that there was no evidence of the drink being mine or that I was telling the truth, even though I had the payment records, drink, and shards of glass that I had pulled out of my teeth displayed for them. I would have been satisfied with even an apology and a glass of water at the very least, but they didn't even offer me that, regardless of the obvious distress and pain I was in. read more

Met up with a friend at Scholars bar to have a drink and catch up. It was my first visit so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised because it is a little oasis away from the pizza and pasta that fills the streets in Rome. Yes, it's Rome and what does one expect, I get it. Still, it was a nice little break. When you step in you are transported out of Rome and into an Irish pub. Music, decorations, etc are all what one might find in a corner bar that calls itself an Irish pub. No, it won't fool true Irish pub-goers, but it's a passable way to escape the Aperol and wine of most of Rome. The bartender was nice and she took our order and told us to grab a seat and she delivered the drinks. It was about 6pm and they weren't busy and since I didn't see any other servers, it was nice that she did that. Overall, a nice little change of pace. If you need a break from all Rome all the time, maybe consider popping in here for a pint. read more

I was with my wife and another couple. We visited Scholars towards the end of our 8 city Italy tour. We arrived to Sholars at 7:50 on a Friday evening. The restaurant was relatively empty at that time. There was a table of 5, a table of 2, and 2 separate people sitting by themselves. As we approached the bar, a polite young man greated us and told us to sit wherever we wanted. So we opted for the booth to the left of the bar because it was away from the band that was beginning to setup. There were 2 small tables pushed together, which perfectly suited our group. We sat down and the young man immediately took our drink orders. About 10 minutes go buy and he didn't come back, so I went to the bar and asked for some food menus. Maybe there was a language barrier, but the young lady was extremely rude and mumbled some things as she continued to make drinks for the band. After an awkward minute or two went by, I asked the other guy that was at the bar for menus and he gave me the them right away. I returned to the table with the menus and then we decided what food we wanted to order. Out of nowhere, a different young lady came to our table and took our menus without saying anything. Then since our tables were pushed together, she took the table that was infront of me and moved it about six feet to the side. We were all in shock and were trying to process what happened. At that point, my wife flagged down our server and asked if our drinks had been made yet. He checked with the bartender and she said no. So being that 20 minutes had passed since we ordered the drinks, we just left. This may have been the worst dining experience that we ever had. And if you're questioning what we did to deserve that kind of treatment, NOTHING. We're all well traveled professionals in our mid 40's. We weren't loud and we weren't rude. Was it an American thing??? Or was it a color thing??? We didn't see anyone else treated like that... Lastly, we went around the corner to Bibo and without even mentioning what happened, they literally treated us like celebrities. Scholars definitely needs to take notes from their neighbor on customer service and maybe even on how to run a business, in general. read more

If you need a break from pasta and pizza, this is the spot. Stepping off the streets of Rome into this pub is stepping onto the streets of Ireland. With the Irish music flavoring the tavern decor and the Irish fare, one is transported directly to the Emerald Isle without ever leaving Rome. The restaurant is huge with seating inside and outside, upstairs and downstairs, at the bar or at a booth or table. The vastness of the restaurant is only rivaled by the extensive menu with great Irish cuisines. We've been here twice since being in Rome and both times have been exceptional. The service is topnotch and the food is scrumptious. We've ordered the cheeseburger, the fish and chips (the second time they had ran out - insert sad face), the pulled pork sandwich, and the Guinness stew. All items were delicious. The fish and chips tartar sauce is great and that's coming from a not-a-tartar-sauce fan. Also, the Guinness stew is filling with chunks of tender meat and diced carrots. Before ordering, know that the sandwiches do not come with fries, those have to be ordered separately. Don't fret though, they are generous with their basket-o-fries. The only issue I had with any of the food was that sometimes they run out, like with the fish and chips. Additionally, if you're here and want to partake in some fun, the pub offers karaoke nights, trivia/game nights, and, yes, traditional Irish music nights. Overall, this is quickly becoming a go-to favorite pub of mine while in Rome. The beer is delicious and the food is perfectly flavored and rightly proportioned. Enjoy! read more

If you're an American and you're traveling in Rome and want a little bit of home loving go here also the drinks are cheap.

Pretty disappointing experience. Fish and chips were not authentic, the breading looked more like that of a crab cake instead of real fried like in UK. Why not spend the extra money to make it authentic? Everything was extremely expensive, way more so than any other restaurant we ate at in Rome which is pretty ridiculous. Service was good but we went in right at opening. read more

This place is wonderful! It is an authentic Irish pub with a very good menu and great service. I find that it is sometimes tough to get a seat due to it being busy but it is well worth the wait. If you are an American who is spending a good deal of time in Rome or Italy itself I highly recommend coming here in the middle of your stay because at that point you are likely missing some of the food that seems normal to you or at the very least you might be looking for some protein in your dish. This is the perfect place to satisfy those desires. I never go to Rome without paying a visit to the scholars lounge. read more

Never in my life I thought I would go to an Irish pub in Rome and listened to a karaoke rendition of Kelly clarkson's Since You've been Gone....yet, there I was, at scholars. This is a fun bar with a young crowd. Waitress was quick with drinks which were tasty. Would recommend for someone looking for a chill vibe. We stopped in here looking for something different in Rome and what we found was a down-home Irish bar with everything that goes along with it. Energetic football (soccer) & rugby fans, awesome fish & chips, stiff drinks and great beers! This place is an easy walk from Victor Emmanuel monument and on the way if you're walking towards the Largo Argentina (Julius Caesar assassination site). We had a small issue with our food order and they fixed it immediately. Manager came out to check on us so we felt we were in good hands. Food was great and good portions. Prices are in line and as expected for the heart of Rome. The place is spacious and there are cool tables and nooks both high and low to sit. Meaning, there is a loft in one area and a elevated 'book nook' seating area. And some private booths. You'll enter into one part of the restaurant and most likely not know there is another half to this place. Wander around and look for the best spot to sit as I'm sure you'll find something cool. Great place to watch games if you need a break from historic monuments and tourists. Definitely worth a shot! read more

My friends and I came here for both of the nights we stayed in Rome because of how much we loved it. I wish there were more pubs like this! Scholars Excited to eat some Irish Pub food after surviving for 10 days on a diet consisting primarily of pasta and pizza. Scholars did a good job of importing a pub look, but neglected to provide the level of service and atmosphere I would expect at a proper pub. When we arrived, the place was 1/2 full, so we we easily found a small table and settled in. There were a few staff buzzing around and we made eye contact several times, but no one came to help us. After 10 minutes of this, I went to the bar to get a couple of beers. I asked about food service, and the bartender handed me a couple menus promised she would be by shortly. She never fulfilled her promise, and we ended up stopping another server who was hurrying by after another 5-10 minutes. The ordering process still was not easy. My wife wanted fish and chips, but was told they were 'finished'. I guess that means sold out... Fish and chips sold out before 3pm? At a pub? Is that legal? We managed to get a burger and some bangers and mash, both of which were OK, but don't warrant repeating. Lesson learned? In Rome, stick with the pizza and pasta! read more

I have no idea why you'd want to go to an Irish pub while you're in Rome, unless you're my friends and you absolutely desperately must have a Guinness because apparently it tastes different in Europe... okay. While it wouldn't be my first choice of venue - I was hellbent on being 100% Italian 100% of the time - I always enjoy a good Irish pub. The beers are insanely expensive. Not a single pint under €6 and most over €7, and even shit beer like Corona and Bud was over €6 a bottle. Why?! Is it for the novelty of it?! Truly wild. Two beers and an order of chips cost us nearly €20. However, the food was pretty good and the service was prompt and friendly. My Guinness-obsessed friend ordered the Irish stew with lamb, I tried a few bites, and it was really tasty, the lamb was nice and tender and the portion was generous. We had a good time joking around with the English server/bartender. Apparently they do karaoke and pub quizzes and stuff, so I can see this being a popular spot for students. read more

If you're American, be aware that they don't play modern music. Everything is at least from 20 years ago and even if you request a song, they will not play it. I repeat, they will not play it especially if it's modern bc they've most likely never heard of it and don't want to play songs that are most recent from the US bc it's not widely accepted. I waited at least an hour and a half for them to play two Drake songs that were at least from 5 years ago and not a single song came on. Wack time. The drinks were good tho. read more

This pub is a gem! Found it on yelp and I was tired eating pasta and pizza so wanted to try something else. Loved everything that my friends and I ordered. Nachos with extra chicken from starters was awesome. Roasted Chicken steak, Creamy chicken curry were mind blowing. Spicy chicken burrito was okay. We just stopped by for a happy hour drink and found the place quite interesting. My rating is not based on the food. It was probably around 6pm when we sat at the bar and ordered wine and beer. Prices were fine. If you look at the menu the food is not all that Irish - tacos and wings type stuff. But the bar staff is friendly and the customers were all English speaking and seemed to be really enjoying themselves. The bathrooms were a little off putting but nicer than some I have seen in Rome. Again stop in for a cold beer and to chat with a few English speaking "friends". read more

My boyfriend brought me to Italy for my 30th this past October. The weather was incredible and thankfully lines were not long anywhere! After 4 straight days of pasta, pizza and heavy carbs, we wanted something different. Via yelp, we stumbled upon Scholars. A foreign hub for tourists and study abroad students. One of my favorite locations to have a drink and chat or dance the night away with friends. There is a space for chatting with a bar, tables, and live music along with another room featuring another bar, open space for dancing, karaoke, and an upstairs area for more space. I enjoy the drinks here from ciders to cocktails. If the upbeat scene is not for you, they also have Monday night trivia. Overall, Scholars has much to offer for any individual. read more

This is a great place to grab a drink. The staff is a lot of fun and super friendly. You really feel at home here. We were there for hours just chatting with people and drinking. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best experience because the sporting event I wanted to see wasn't shown. The bartender when 1st entering the bar on Thursday 6/29 was extremely rude because she kept leaving me when I tried to complete a group of 6's order of drinks. She rolled her eyes and said "Are you done?" I'm from the USA and I've dealt with rude people in NYC, Philly, Chicago, and California but she took the title. She rolled her eyes and slammed my drinks in front of me with my family present. Total disrespectful! Had a delightful lunch at this Pub while visiting Rome. The atmosphere was GREAT...food was DELICIOUS....beer selection OUTSTANDING....cozy booths with doors AWESOME! If you're tired of Pasta, and want a cost efficient option, I'd highly recommend the Scholars Pub. They even have Karaoke every night, starts at 11pm, and goes until 3 am (dee jay sets up around 10:30 pm) We had the Buffalo Wings - Chili Con Carne - Fish 'n Chips - Bagel w/Brie, Bacon and Cranberries.
