What a great program to teach kids (and adults) the joy of music. My 12 year old daughter has been in this for about 6 months and performed in two shows. The shows are amazing! The talent of these kids. The staff is wonderful too. They make music "cool" and fun but still have high expectations of the kids. I have see. Phenomenal. There's really nothing like it out there that I have seen. My kids love the school, love the instructors, love the friends they've made there, they love everything about it! School of Rock combines one-on-one instruction with weekly group rehearsals in a way that keeps kids thoroughly engaged. My daughter was taking traditional guitar lessons and was bored and ready to quit after a couple months. She wanted to check out School of Rock after seeing the house band play at an event she was at. After just one lesson and one "band" rehearsal she was hooked, and a fire was lit inside of her. My son decided to switch from piano lessons to guitar. We gave School of Rock a try, mostly because they had such a fun sounding name. After the trial lesson, Bradley was sold. School of Rock in Vista totally rocks! The teachers are wonderful musicians and instructors and everyone else who works there is so nice(and not in a fake way). My son takes keyboard lessons and my daughter takes bass and vocal lessons. They are not only learning about their instruments, but they are learning about the history of rock, music theory, performing, being in a band, writing music, appreciating music and many more things. Seriously, i sometimes wonder why there isn't a long waiting list for this place! It is really a hidden gem. School of Rock in Vista truly rocks! School of Rock has had an enormous positive impact on our family since all 4 of our children started with the program almost four years ago. Our kids absolutely LOVE it. Once a week the students get a private lesson (on the guitar, bass, keyboards, drums or vocals) and they also participate in a weekly group rehearsal as well. The rehearsals work up to a show about every 3 months. If you want your children to learn music - both theory and how to perform it, while they are having a great time - this is the best program out there! The instruction is geared towards both music theory and performance but the kids learn so much more! They learn that they are apart of a band - part of a team! Just like if they were on a sports team. You can't just be good; you have to make the entire band great too! Confidence is built with each show they perform in, and with each new gig their stage presence is improved upon immensely. SOR also has other great opportunities for the kids through their "house band" and the nation-wide All Stars programs. But, what truly makes this school phenomenal though isn't simply the program; it's our fantastic instructors. We truly cannot say enough awesome things about Tom, Jody, and Jason! My son has been enrolled in this amazing program for going on 4 years now. He took music lessons prior to this, but SOR is the spark that lit his fire for music! Their program is totally unique. It includes not only music lessons, but the opportunity to actually perform in a band with their peers. In my opinion this is the missing link in most music schools. Rehearsing and playing in an actual band, promoting and actually putting on a show - these are invaluable experiences for any kid's growth as a musician and a performer. And, at SOR if you work extra hard, you might earn the additional opportunity of performing with your school's House Band, which plays at various really cool events around town; or you may even earn a spot on the National School of Rock All Stars. My son has earned both these opportunities, and has had some of the most amazing experiences - including playing a song with some other SOR kids on an episode of Dancing With The Stars, as well as performing with the West Coast All Stars at the renowned Whisky A Go Go, and at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. Seriously, who gets to do stuff like that as a young kid? SOR kids that's who! Furthermore, I know of two kids enrolled in this program in the Southern California area who were accepted to the Berklee College of Music in Boston for next year. This is serious musical education. That old model is like learning music in a vacuum - it's all work and no play. With School of Rock, kids WANT to practice, since they know their band mates are depending on them to know their parts. Adult Group Review - I have played guitar most of my adult life with little guidance or direction. My abilities seemed to plateau and without playing with a full band I was not motivated to learn new material, and my skills never improved. That changed once I joined the adult performance group. The adult students' skill levels typically range from novice to intermediate+ and the school arranges students in groups based on skill level, desire and musical preference. When playing live the school sets the venue, provides and brings all the gear needed (drums, amps, etc.) and makes it easy for the students to play a live show. Each group has a dedicated teacher that is highly educated in all the instruments and provides guidance to the group. Their input is invaluable. 12 months into the adult group I can honestly say that I have seen significant improvement and am playing and enjoying music that I did not anticipate enjoying. The best part of School of Rock is that it makes learning music a fun experience for the kids. The kids love jamming each week with their peers to fun songs, and they are motivated to practice their songs so that they can play along with their peers. The kids are also motivated by the fact that there are regular performances on a stage, like a real rock concert. I am amazed at how much my children have learned on the drums and guitar in a short period of time, enough that they can jam independently with their friends at 6 and 9 years old! Oceanside also has instructors who are knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging. My kids have loved all of the instructors they've had at SOR. My kids are also learning how to be part of a team, a community. I also can't say enough about the office staff at SOR. They are responsive to any questions or concerns and will try their best to find a way to work with your schedule. The whole atmosphere at SOR is positive, enthusiastic, and down-to-earth.
