I think I found the best internist, EVER. Setting up an appointment was a breeze - the…read morereceptionist, Angie, is a sweetheart, and she was able to squeeze me in when luckily there was a cancellation. The office is located off of St. Clair in the Northwestern Memorial building (and there is validated parking available); the office is very cute, clean, and modern, and I waited less than 10 minutes after my scheduled time (which is pretty much unheard of; the receptionist also apologized which I thought was ridiculous!). I filled out basic medical history and such on their patient portal beforehand, which I thought was quite convenient and makes things more efficient. I was really excited with all the raving reviews on not only on Yelp, but on other health websites that rated Dr. O'Mara. When the doc walked in, she was extremely nice, very knowledgeable, straightforward, a great listener, gentle, professional, and very informative. She listened to all of my health issues as well as my thoughts and opinions, and basically gave me a plan of action. She took her time with me, asking questions, and the whole time, I was not felt rushed! The best thing is that she was very genuine and I was extremely comfortable, being a new patient with all these high expectations! There is a lab on-site, and the phlebotomist, Lauren P., was so sweet and kind, and drawing blood was not at all uncomfortable (considering I have a very low threshold of pain and am such a pansy!). Dr. O'Mara and everyone on staff seems to be extremely detail-oriented and organized (which I absolutely love). The high ratings on the doc do not do her justice - she really is AWESOME. I have a follow-up next week am actually looking forward to a doctor's appointment - isn't that crazy?! I am looking forward in being Dr. O'Mara's patient for years to come! +ask for Angie, the receptionist :D +Dr. O'Mara = AWESOME +limited parking (park at garage)

Dr. O'Mara's office is a clean, modern one-physician practice. She exhibits all of the professionalism and knowledge I have come to expect and appreciate from Northwestern practitioners and affiliates. I was randomly assigned to her through Northwestern's physician referral practice after I suffered a serious medical event and I was shocked by how great my experiences with her have been. My initial consultation was in her office, where she interviewed me about all of my health concerns, family history, and really took the time to get to know both me as a person and my health issues. Despite a relatively complicated health history, Dr. O'Mara has gone above and beyond. She takes the time to research issues about my medicine and listens to my questions, no matter how silly they may seem to me, in a non judgmental environment. She has followed up on problems or before procedures through phone calls about things I, at times, hadn't even thought about. She is always eager to explain these things to me. She truly cares about her patient's well being and happiness -- even following up on what I thought about places she had sent me for a referral. In short, I have never received this level of care with any doctor before. Her assistant, Angie, is also very nice and helpful. To top it off, it's extremely easy to make appointments here, and Dr. O'Mara keeps an electronic portal where you can ask her questions, view your test results quickly, and access other features from your visits. If you need a new internal medicine doctor, visit Dr. O'Mara.

Since it was free, and I had considered Lasik before, I thought this would be a great time to get my eyes checked out to see if this was a procedure for me. My appointment was at 5pm, which was the latest appointment of the date for Dr. Basti. The eye technician had promptly called me in to do the preliminary tests. There were a few issues I had while I was with her, which were: 1. I had to ask her to wipe down the chin and forehead areas of the machine 2. I was relocated to three different rooms because she said she was "stealing" rooms. This left me very uncomfortable because I had left my jacket and other items unattended in these rooms (thinking the room was exclusively reserved for me during my appointment) Again, my appointment was at 5pm. I was finished with the technician by 5:20pm. I had waited and waited for the doctor (unable to see because I was instructed to take my contacts out). By 5:55pm, the doctor stops by my room, apologizes, and tells me that he'll be another 10 to 15 max. As he leaves my room, he walks another patient into the room next to me. All the while, another patient in the room across from me is waiting as well. As I was supposedly the last appointment, it appeared there were two other people AHEAD of me. It was looking like I'd have to wait till 7pm to see the doctor. Frustrated, I left the office at 6:15pm. I was going to explain to the receptionist that I just couldn't wait and needed to leave. But everyone that worked at this office had already left for the day. It wasn't until 6:40pm that I received a call from Dr. Basti apologizing for the wait and explaining that it was an unusually busy day. Then he shifted the blame to his technician telling me that he assumed I was already selected as a candidate for Lasik and thought the technician had dilated my eyes. He said he wanted to give my eyes the full 30 minutes to dilate and thats why he attended to other patients before seeing me. As a patient, I was already upset I had to wait so long to see the eye doctor. To hear that Dr. Basti and his technician couldn't communicate well enough during a consultation worried me to the point that I wouldn't want to pay thousands of dollars to get my eyes messed up and in the end have them tell me "Oh sorry, I misunderstood". Any miscommunications while under the laser is not worth it to me. With so many businesses out there that do the Lasik procedure, first impressions is key. This visit left me with a very bad impression.

If you're considering a recommendation for rehabilitation, I suggest starting at Advocate Medical Hospital. Dr. Lisip and an outstanding physical therapist named Lindsay are remarkable in their approach. Although Lindsay can be tough, she is also incredibly effective and compassionate. My coworker didn't believe it, but Dr. Betman guided her to the ER, where they confirmed it was a heart attack. My coworker told me this story, and we both agree: Dr. Betman is the kind of life-changing doctor you want in your corner for life. A few other things I appreciate: she takes many insurance plans, is a women's health expert, teaches at Northwestern University, and refers out to excellent specialists (who also work with a wide range of insurance). Unlike most doctors, she takes the time to answer every question and treats every concern seriously. Over the years she genuinely gets to know you and cares about you -- almost like the small-town doctor you'd see in a movie. The busy office staff is perfunctory... they're not going to win awards for being "nice," as other reviewers have mentioned. The only thing that bugged me was when he asked if I was on any daily medication and they told me I should try to stop taking this specific medicine because it can be hard to wean off of it the longer you take it. However, my specialist that prescribed me this medication had research to prove that that was never a symptom of the drug and that there was no evidence that prolonged use was a cause of difficulty weaning off the drug. In addition to this, The administrative people that work in his department make it difficult for me to want to go back. I called asking to get an appointment for my annual exam and they were booked out so I asked if I could get my blood work done now and the rest done later. Not only were they rude in their tone, but they quickly said no and didn't give me any other options. The reason I was asking for the blood work now is because I see a nutritionist that wanted to make sure all my levels were normal given some symptoms I was having. Additionally, when I got my blood work done the previous time, they coded it wrong so my insurance was not covering it. However, it was a routine test that normally is covered so I had to go through hoops and multiple phone calls and people to get it figured out, which was very frustrating.
