In the market for deer resistant flowers for my front yard. A little digging (no pun intended) led me to Schwartz's Greenhouse and their supply of lavender plants. The potted lavender plants were nice size. I didn't want too large. I prefer slow growing and minimal size plants. The employees helped me find the plant in the last greenhouse and recommended how to plant them. It has been just over a week and the lavender is bearing blooms and some flowers. The deer haven't eaten them yet. I am very happy for the $10 lavender pots and the results so far. Highly recommend both establishment and plants provided. read more

We have been coming to this greenhouse for years, Along with my parents. My mom goes there so much, this year she had a gift card. We will never come to this place again based on how her and my wife were treated with this gift card. First of all their gift card operation is like how business first dealt with gift certificates when they were invented. I won't go into the archaic process but be warned: print your gift card (that's the first bad sign) and take it to the info desk before checking out. Then when you go to check out with the gift card, be prepared for the cashier to be extremely rude and treat you like you're taking flowers out of her own yard and the business isn't actually getting money for them because I'm pretty sure she doesn't know how gift cards work. Your seasonal young employee just made long standing loyal customers never want to come to your business again. And we might not be the only ones by the end of the season. Plenty of other greenhouses closer to our home. Careful who you hire. read more

I can't believe I've never reviewed Schwartz's. Honestly, I was never really into plants until we moved to our current location and the flower bed next to our front porch had some perennials planted from the previous owner. That was amazing to me, what do you mean they come back every year? LOL That was many years ago and I'm happy to say that both of my flower beds are now filled with wonderful annuals and perennials every doing e. And the majority of them have come from here. Why? Their prices are fair, their quality is excellent, they have a huge variety and their staff are super friendly. There are greenhouses much closer to where I live but Schwartz's is worth the extra drive! read more

I've come to realize that Schwartz's always delivers when it comes to variety. Everytime I come here I find things I don't always find other places. And it's not that that it's anything particularly unique (although some of those supertunia's are REALLY cool looking), they just happen to carry a lot more stock of other annuals outside of begonias and petunias. I went to a couple of shops before going to Schwartz's and I found things I hadn't elsewhere including flats of a variety of zinnias, marigolds, TONS of dahlias this time around (both large plants and smaller), a few varieties of alyssum and lantana for my pollinators, snap dragons, etc. Oh and SO many different types of tomatoes in both smaller starter sizes and more established plants. Prices have crept up over the years like most places but they're still mid-range. Meaning they're not the cheapest in the area but still more affordable than a lot of competitors/big box stores and the quality and selection is top notch. Staff is also really lovely and helpful (pointing me in the direction of the herbs when I couldn't find them) and I'm still amazed how they can check out these massive carts of flowers and flats so effortlessly. I would go nuts trying to make sense of it all. It's truly a gift and they're all great at what they do. read more

I have been coming out here for almost 20 years. I use to work in the area, but now I stop on my way home from Monroe. I will tell you that my best friend drives from Oak Park to shop here. Great selection of flowers, vegetable, trees, and other plants. Hanging, flats, gallon pots, and even cute pots with flowers already in them or just by themselves. They always have enough staff to find help quickly. If they don't know the answer, they point you to some that does. They have wagons and carts with enough for busy time. The prices are better than the greenhouses closer to Metro Detroit. You will be able to get what need no matter how big or small project you are doing. I have been here, spring, fall, and around Christmas. I will keep coming. read more

I will be a loyal customer to Schwartz for life since they came to my family's rescue by offering curbside pickup. Before learning about Schwartz's curbside pickup option, we weren't sure what we were going to do for our garden this year. We are extra cautious and not entering stores in the pandemic. The greenhouses and Eastern Market can be insanely busy at this time of year, and those crowds seem like the worst conditions for the virus to spread. But then we discovered Schwartz's service through a friend. They offer online ordering. Place your order at 11:30 am to ensure a pickup time in a few days. We couldn't pick up everything we could in store but they still had a very nice variety. Be aware that depending on your email provider, you may not receive an order confirmation via email (or it may go to your junk folder), so be sure to make a note of your pickup time. Pickup at the store was very easy. There are lots of well marked signs indicating the pickup area. Workers stop by and check your name (we showed a sign, so we didn't have to open the window) then collect and place the order in your trunk. Curbside pickup wasn't busy at all, particularly compared to those in the store at the time. All of the plants we ordered, a mix of flowers, vegetables and herbs, were very strong and healthy. We passed by a competitive greenhouse on the way back and it was thronged as usual, with no apparent social distancing. Watching their lack of concern for their customers compared to Schwartz's, we know where we'll be returning in future! Their curbside pickup is excellent! The prices were reasonable and they tell you exactly what you're getting. When I came to pick up my stuff the signs made it very clear what to do - I pulled in and someone immediately came to my window, asked for my name and a few minutes later they had loaded my car up and I was on my way. After making the 45 minute drive to pick up the plants, I was informed by the nice young woman employee, that they only had 6 plants, and they would not be getting any more in. Stopped in to get some potted flowers to make the house look nice for summer. Also picked up a nice little tabletop herb garden. This place is massive... I mean like the floor space area of a Walmart. If you're a green thumb, they have all kinds of veggies, herbs, and flowers for you to plant in your garden. For the not so horticulturally gifted, there are also plenty of prepotted arrangements. All of the shopping area is covered (it's a greenhouse, after all): so it's ok to go no matter what the weather. Plenty of parking as well, along with big carts to tote around the plants as you shop. Prices are pretty standard for plants, although maybe a little steeper than you'd find at Home Depot or Lowes. Even if it's a little more though, it's worth it to support the local economy. Be advised though: they do not take AMEX (visa and MasterCard ok though). Bottom Line: If you need plants for the spring or summer, and want a large selection to choose from, this is your place. read more

Excellent selection of plants flowers vegetables. A bit crowded. They are under the impression it is not state law to wear a mask and allowed some customers to enter without wearing one. They should've turn them away. I am very disappointed. They have masks to wear if you forgot yours, but they do not seem to enforce the state law requiring everyone to wear them or do they even seem to be aware of it. I decided to buy my vincas here to save money, You GET what you pay for. Honestly, I could tell a difference when I bought them, but I didn't think it would be that hard to get them beautiful. They do not sell the "proven winner" brand and it is quite obvious. I thought with my green thumb, it wouldn't matter and I would save some money this year instead of going to farmer johns where you KNOW you will have beauties. You will pay 40 more but will have the best flowers ever. I gave my cousin some of my vincas purchased from Schwartz and they did a bit better than mine, but still nothing compared to the vibrancy and strong. In fact, about 8 of mine died. The shiny green leaves you get from the proven winners at farmer kings. The leaves are turning yellow and there are barely any blooms. The colors on both of ours are much duller than I've ever seen. I am an avid plant hobbyist. If you want a couple basic plants, this place isn't bad, but if you want good quality and don't want to spend a ton trying to get them healthy, please go else where. I wish I had bought less and gotten better quality where I know I will have 3 months of healthy plants. I would have been better off at Walmart no joke. I treated with jacks fertilizer and bug prevention and normally have the most beautiful flowers, so it DEFINITELY their quality. read more

The prices aren't as cheap as Blocks, but either is the product. You get what you pay for as they say. We purchase almost all of our landscape and fruit and vegetable plants here. Awesome selection at good prices! We came here on Mothers Day and although it was super busy, everything was well stocked. There were a ton of friendly workers willing to help you find everything you needed, and prices were extremely reasonable for the quality and size of plants. My only complaint/suggestion would be to have a better pricing method for check-out. The cashier had to go from memory for plant cost, and with a cart full of varying sizes/plants, I couldn't remember if the prices were accurate to what I was expecting to pay, and had no way to double check her math. read more

Everyone there is ready to answer questions, show you around, and I've even seen guys helping customers load up their cars. *Prices are lower or on par with other local places. *Selection. Tons of varieties of veggies, herbs, annuals, perennials, tools, etc. *Cute(but small selection) yard decor. They had a garden gnome there with a bright pink hat holding a sign that said O.M.G. For some reason, I found this hilariously tacky, and I'm kicking myself for not getting it. *Quality plants. If you do annuals this is the Place. Thousand of flats at $8, lower as the season go on. Only one crop per year so the selection diminishes as you approach and pass June 1. Hanging baskets and standing buckets are not touched anywhere else and at prices that put EG and others to shame. Parking is plentiful and organized just as the plant displays are. Credit cards accepted cheerfully.. Can't find it just ask...the temporary help is in fact HELP...unfortunately the answer is often "we've sold out of that." WANT A SELECTION GET HERE IN EARLY MAY and hope mother nature doesn't frost. Best bet is wait until Memorial Day and take what's available....your yard will look fantastic regardless of what you go home with. read more

I love the selection of hanging baskets and try to get a red Million Bells every year. I left it hanging outside at the end of the year just planning on it dying with the cold weather. With the mild Temps it was amazingly still green with 2 small flowers so I thought I had better bring it in the house! On superb owl Sunday it had 7 blossoms! What a will to live! read more
