The only restaurant open after 8pm in Millinocket. We had come back from dusk at Baxter State Park and found it thanks to Yelp. A Thursday night a little after 8 and two of us went in for dinner. A wide variety on the menu. We chose the turkey club and the Cobb salad. Processed cheese on the salad was a disappointment. That said the salad size was huge and ranch dressing was plentiful. The turkey club was a great choice! Service was very attentive. We had only water to drink and she continued to fill up the glasses throughout the meal. We tried to get in here last year but they were closed. We are so glad we stopped in! Really clean and pretty inside. We were seated right away and we chose to sit in the bar. Great atmosphere and not obnoxious. Plenty of TVs to view games. We went with the club sandwich, onion rings, Greek salad and heck yeah.. wings! Their pizza that cruised by looked ahhhhmazing! Stars are for the service. Our server was fantastic. We both got the scallops and my husband got a seafood platter. Quality and quantity was mediocre and it was egregiously expensive for scallops that were less than quarter size and over cooked. Clam chowder was the star. What seemed disingenuous was that iced tea did not have free refills and there was no mention of that by the server or on the menu. Just never been our experience in a lifetime of dining out across the entire country. I say this only because it seemed to lack principle in a current economic climate where people are more vigilant about how they spend their money and consider how they are treated as a patron, it just felt as though if they were getting over on you with the refills, what corners were being cut on the food. With so many restaurant owners struggling, I choose to continue to support those who treat me fairly. read more

I wouldn't go here again nor recommend it. The bar looked nice so sat there around 4. Bartender was observant and not very friendly. It gave off a "locals only" vibe, outsiders not to be trusted. Delicious food coma inducing stuff - exactly what you want after a long day of hiking, travel or whatever activity brought you here! Recommend the pizza - we are from NY and know a good pie. Menu is not what it says online. We were excited to come here but when we asked why the menus were different in person a very snotty waitress said the owner had not update it since Covid and that was a pre covid menu. When you grow up in a small town, you can't wait to get out into the world and explore what else is out there. There has to be more and it has to be better than this, right? Then you finish high school, you go away to college, and then you go even further away when you finish that. And, lo and behold - that little small town offered some things you just can't replicate elsewhere. One of those places has sadly closed (I still miss those Orvieto sandwiches and long for one every time I'm home.) But, the Scootic In is a staple in this town and I hope it stays that way for a long time to come. Every reunion (which happens the week of the 4th) and this place is hopping with those of us returning home. And, the many dinners I've shared with hometown friends here - we all agree: you just can't beat the pizza at The Scootic! Honestly - I'm not sure I've ever had anything else on their menu. The haddock was amazing. The calzone had great flavor, but was very soggy from the amount of raw onions and peppers that were put in at the start of the bake. Would probably be better if the the peppers and onions were grilled/sautéed before placing in the calzone. Tasted great just soggy. The cheesecake was amazing. The service was good and the waitress gave us directions on where moose might be(they were not there lol). But we had a nice drive anyway. Remodeled recently! This place has always been a go-to when in the area. I love the scallops Michelle! I had those and a fresh "county" baked potato (which was super tasty) and broccoli. Was hoping for their famous winter squash but it's not on the menu yet. Hubby had the chicken parm sandwich. He loved it! It's def not a hand held type of sandwich though. I was sitting in the middle of Charleston, SC wishing I had a pizza and then I thought back to the best pizza pie I've ever had. My mouth began to water, and my nose dreamed of the smell of a gorgeous pie from years ago. Two to be exact. Three pies, actually, over 6 months time, just to reinforce the fact that this, this pie, was the absolute most perfect pie that one could find in the whole of the United States and that it came from a small town and a family restaurant in the wilds of Maine. I have visited 46 out of the 50 states and I have eaten pizza in all of them and I have eaten some dang good pies. But this is the pie that pilgrimages are made over and quests are begun to discover the ultimate nirvana of pie. The Scootic In in Millinocket, Maine gets my award for the absolute best pie I have ever eaten, anywhere and any time! They also apparently have other good food, but I have never even tried anything but their pizza, because it's heaven on a platter. Now, sorrowfully, I am saddened, for I have moved 1219 miles away from the source of pizza glory. Oh, how I wish I could once again drive down the Golden Road(yes, it exists) on my way to another of those delightful, delicious pies. read more

Very mediocre food. I ordered fried clams and they were pretty bad, 90% breading. Also, I did take out and didn't check the bill carefully. They charged $77 for something that added up to about $55. I was so busy with vacation that I didn't go back to ask them to explain the bill. read more

My dream is to burn this place to the ground. Not actually, but listen up to why you can find better restaurants. After a long day of hiking and canoeing, my girlfriend and I went here. 7:00-Show up to restaurant. Very lively, looking good. 7:15-Get a table. Not terrible. 7:25-Waitress shows up at last. Hallelujah. We had to ask for waters and placed an order immediately. 7:28-Waitress comes back to confirm order. Has it wrong, but that's okay, I'm not perfect either. 7:35-Bread comes. At last. Finally, calories. Not bad bread at all, but it is only bread. 7:40- All Quiet on the Western Front. 7:50- The eyes of a nation wait patiently on the door to the kitchen for our appetizer. No signs of intelligent life. 8:00-Nothing. We've just been witnessing another couple try to approach the waitress and pay for their meal for the last five to ten minutes, but to no avail. Desperate for calories, we have no choice, leaving the barren wasteland and heading off, leaving five dollars for the bread and water. The decision has been made, no looking back. 8:05-Get to McDonald's. The staff informs us that we can buy 10,000 chicken nuggets if we wanted and the service is fast and very friendly. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. To people in the town, sure, it's a good restaurant. It's also the only real restaurant in town. But if you're driving through, keep driving. I've been one other time before and the wait is still long for mediocre food. read more

This is great for a date night or family dinner. The waitresses are polite and the food is always hot. After eating here, it was obvious that the current tight job market has really hurt the Scootic In. We were pulled in by their regular menu but, sadly, all they had to offer on the day we visited were some workaday sandwiches and mostly fried seafood. The service was friendly and quick, sure, but the food was low grade (but priced on the high side.) We split a fried seafood platter, and with tips and soft drinks (over $2 each for a can of soda and some ice in a glass) the total was over $50. I got here 10 minutes before 8pm with my family. We left at 15 minutes before 10pm.. with our meals cold and boxed because we had waited for our meal until then and needed to go home. Mind you there were people that still were not served that got there a half hour prior. As you looked around the restaurant everyone was impatiently waiting for there food. Waitresses were no where to be seen but rarely to see if we needed water. Our waitress did bring bread out for us and that was a nice gesture I will admit. As we got our bill of over 100 dollars.. We asked to be compensated for the wait time (something that would be expected). Our waitresses went out back to the kitchen where the owner of the restaurant was cooking our meals (yes, the owner).. clearly there was confrontation since she was back there for a bit. She returns with a $7.00 compensation... $7.00................... I may or may not return to this restaurant. Because sometimes shit happens. But the fact that there was zero "I'm sorry for the wait or there wasn't an already accommodated price adjustment and we had to ask for it, is not how you deal with your mistakes. I don't want things for free.. but completely unacceptable.. I hope for those that go have a better experience than we did. read more

What should you expect when walking into Scootic In? Delicious amazing family style cooking and a warm atmosphere. There is always a family member on duty and you can tell right off the bat by their warm smile and welcome. Instead of directing you to a front podium if you enter the back door, the greeter (usually family) is position in the middle of the restraurant and they don't spare a minute before finding you a seat. Which was great when we felt lost in a strange city. The food is amazing. Traditional homestyle cooking with huge flavors. Being in a small town I was shallow in thinking maybe the food would not be as fresh or the flavor with a punch. I was extremely mistaken. I would have licked my fingers if I could. Having had just climbed Mount Katahdin, some friends and I needed to just sit and eat our faces off after such a feat. A friend had been to this restaurant before and enjoyed the food, so we all decided we would try it out. Upon walking in, we were quickly greeted by the hostess who brought us to our table. That's when we met our waiter...and this was really what brought our experience down. The waiter approached our table with an aggressive "what do you want to drink?" which set an impersonal tone from the beginning. He kept this tone throughout our whole experience. When we asked about certain suggestions, we would get a lackluster response of "I don't know..." or he would just shrug things off as if what we were asking was irrelevant. Or when we asked what pie is the best, we got an "I don't eat pie" response. Like, okay...what is the pie that most people order? What does other staff suggest? One of the people I was with didn't eat his whole meal, and without even asking, the waiter took his plate and didn't even ask if he wanted a box! It was probably one of the worst service experiences I have had in a long, long time. However, aside from the horrible service that we received, the food was actually really good. I started out with the bacon-wrapped scallops which were cooked perfectly! I then got the chicken parmesan for my meal and it was a large portion had nice flavor. My other friends ordered the shrimp scampi which also looked decent and seemed to have a good amount of shrimp. Overall, I'm sure Scootic In is a great establishment for locals to go to, however, if they want more people to enjoy their restaurant, I would suggest that the waiters find a way to be more kind and personable. You seriously have not been to Milinokcet if you haven't spent time at the Scootic. It use to be the only restaurant in town for dinner (unless you like Subway chicken parmesean), but now that those Pellitiers and their reality TV show, American Loggers, opened a place across the street, it is more like the church, pot-luck crowd. Waitstaff turnover is the buzz over Miller at the bar, and the owner can be sulking in the corner at times as his business dwindles. Let's hope that he can figure out there is more than one way to serve a Cheeseburger and fries and lobster salad. The food is Maine fare, without the catchy names. Vegtables are no where on the menu, and a stick of butter is the chef (cook's) best friend. But we weren't in a hurry, so perhaps it just seemed reasonable. Our orders were certainly taken very quickly by a friendly and helpful waitress, the wait for the food might have been a bit excessive for those in a time crunch. Maybe 30 minutes. Not sure about the name. The people who have run in for generations are named Simon, so... There is a famous Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park, near Bar Harbor, but that's a long way away. It's full of Appalachian Trail hikers.The clams are unique to my taste (albeit limited on clam exposure) tasting more like oysters than Howard Johnson clams. Haddock and scallops both baked, were ample, fresh and tasty. Pureéd butternut squash is a health food, fresh, natural and unspoiled (so many of you will not like it). read more

This place has been in the family for many years. It is clean; the server was efficient and nice; the food was presented quickly and was of good quality. I ordered the cajun-seasoned chicken breast. The chicken was surprisingly moist. It was served with a starch and a vegetable choice. The baked potato was good and served with sealed packets of butter and sour cream in a little bowl. I chose the green salad, as squash is not my favorite vegetable (the veggie choice). The salad was crisp and had a nice variety of lettuce/fresh veggies in it. Prices are very reasonable. This review is for the calzones and beer only. You have to be out of your mind to order any of the other gross food on the menu, but damn the calzones are freaking spectacular. My friend once ordered a bowl of chowdah and it was a bowl of super thick barely viscous white sludge...exactly how the inside of his arteries probably looked after eating it( 'Murica!). But yes, the calzones here are so good your mind will be blown that you are eating this delicious of a calzone in freakin Millinocket of all places. The dough and sauce are great, the veggies end up cooked nicely while still retaining some crispness, there is plenty of cheese, yet the thing is somehow not greasy. They are also reasonably priced and very large, although after climbing Katahdin several times, I always eat 2 and sometimes 3(but that's really an unnecessary amount of food). There are also some Maine beers on tap which is nice. There's another pizza place inside a gas station a little further towards I-95 that is also good, but other than that, this is really the only place I'd eat at in the area. read more

Big menu. I'd trust anything here. Big place. Prices are in the teens and twenties for dinners. I'd definitely go here once a month or so if I live in the area.
