Came in here one day shortly after moving to town. I had the crab stuffed lobster tail which was awesome and hubby had the salmon. Both good dishes and I would recommend to have either. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect from The Vault. We haven't visited since they're under new ownership. We decided to give it a shot and we're glad we did. The ambiance is quaint and reminds me of being in NYC a little bit. We made reservations in the vault for Saturday evening. The vault itself was ok, probably wouldn't sit in there again but it was one of those "when in Rome" things you need to do. I wish I could remember our servers name but she was really nice and service was great. We had the Brussels sprouts for an appetizer and everyone loved them - even the people that don't like Brussels sprouts liked them! Others in our party ordered shrimp scampi, pad Thai, and Baja chicken bowl. Everyone said their food was great. I had the salmon, Asian green beans and jasmine rice and it was fantastic. We will definitely return next time we are in The County. It's great to have a restaurant option that serves entrees other than fried seafood and burgers! read more

The last thing I thought I would find in downtown Houlton was a classic gem of a restaurant in a building that harkens back to a simpler time. The owner Kristen and her husband, alongside extended family, put their dreams into action by buying this beautiful building and opening up a phenomenal restaurant in the town where they grew up. Lucky for Houlton, and visitors like me, I reaped the benefits of a phenomenal experience, as the restaurant itself had been closed for many months due to Covid. I enjoyed phenomenal glass of Spanish Rioja paired with a teriyaki salmon, rice and homemade slaw. Yes, yes, I also went for a fabulous glass of Prosecco and chocolate ganache cake. The experience of being inside an old bank with a vault is a historical one. The staff and management are absolutely delightful. I was so happy to be able to bend the owners ear and enjoy a fine dining experience. The best part about this place is the amount of local support they've received throughout the pandemic and that speaks for every establishment in the area. We could have never imagined that Houlton, Maine would have a restaurant turning out such flavorful and high end foods! We devoured the roasted garlic appetizer that came in a cute cast iron skillet on top a candle lit warmer. Great presentation! We enjoyed the lobster Alfredo and the espresso crusted Ribeye equally. The craft beer selection was great and both choices were fresh and went nicely with our meal. If I didn't live in Florida, I'd be a regular here! read more

An excellent interior with a limited number of tables (less than 15) and a cosy table in an actual bank vault! The service was disappointing. We had a reservation for 7pm and were seated promptly....then we waited 20mins to see a server again. No problem, our drinks and appetizer orders were taken and both were brought to the table in a reasonable time. Part way through appetizers, chicken nachos and bacon spinach dip which were both delicious, our entree order was taken. Then the great disappearance! No server checked in, refilled water, asked for additional drinks etc. At 7:50 the 2 chicken bowl entrees were delivered. 15mins later, the salmon and hanger steak. The steak and sides were lukewarm warm and the steak cooked to medium well instead of medium rare...this went back and was removed from the check. The final entree arrived 5 mins later. To try and recover, we received complimentary deserts and a plethora of apologies. I give this a "Maybe" as I liked the ambience and the variety of apps and entrees. Only the hanger steak was unsatisfactory. The service needs to be improved and significantly more attentive...just check in with the table and communicate! read more

During a recent trip to Maine, this restaurant came highly recommended. I have 2 words....Maine Lobster!! The multi-colored pasta and creamy sauce was perfectly crafted. There is a beautiful list of wines and eclectic choices of beers. Hubby and I completed our meal with Banana's Foster Cake. Restaurant hours are reservation only starting at 4:30. Seen were several patrons taking advantage of the "no-contact" meal pick-up. The staff were very attentive. Will definitely visit again. read more

Stopped in on our way home from Bar Harbor. Food was really good. Mixed green salad was very tasty but verrry small portion. Some bread for the table would have been nice. Had the pad Thai and devoured it! We walked in to mostly vacant tables. No one to greet us so we had to find the servers in the back. This should have been an indication of the level of service we received. A visit that should have taken maybe 45 minutes turned into a long hour and a half. Server took forever to get us two glasses of water and then forgot to bring us ketchup until we had to flag her down from across the very uncrowded room. In Northern Maine good food is really hard to come by so this place is an oasis in a sea of deep fried crap. It's a great atmosphere and pretty cool to be in an old bank vault. The service leaves much to be desired! (I waitressed all through college and I consider myself and expert in this area, having worked in upscale and not so upscale restaurants on Long Island and upstate NY. read more

Been looking around for a nice date spot, and decided to make the two hour trip to the vault. We made our reservation for 4pm. We were able to choose our table, and of course we chose the vault. Our waitress was great, and everything came out pretty quickly. We started out with the carne asada street tacos, and we enjoyed them so much we got a second order! Since we got two appetizers, we ended up splitting our entree, which was seared teriyaki tuna. It was absolutely delicious, and we basically scraped our plate clean. We got dessert to go, and we went with the white chocolate strawberry shortcake. Now, my wife isn't a huge fan of strawberry shortcake, but she inhaled it so quickly I didn't even get a taste! This whole dining experience was truly the best we've had in Aroostook County, and this certainly tops our list of date night destinations! If you are looking for a classy restaurant, with great service, and fantastic food, then The Vault is the place to be! This restaurant is snuggled in the middle of downtown Houlton, Maine. I have eaten here many times, and haven't had a bad meal as of yet. If appetizers are what you like then i suggest the spinach and artichoke dip, or perhaps the calamari. Entrees are equally as great. The menu ranges from seafood alfredo, to fillet mignon, there also are a variety of specials on any given day at the chef's discretion. We were visiting the area on a recent house hunting trip. Saw the reviews on The Vault and decided to give it a try. Absolutely wonderful!!! Price is on par with the quality and taste of food. Appeared that the wait time was a little longer than normal due to an unexpected girls night out in the restaurant as well. The Chef personally came out, apologized and comped our appetizer. That sealed the deal, she identified that there was an issue, addressed it with the customer and went out of her way to offer something in return; customer service at its best! I always eat at this restaurant when I visit my family in Maine. I love the farm to table concept and the specials are always delicious and creative. This is a great little spot in Houlton! We showed up on time for 6:30 reservations and were quickly seated without any hesitation. Place was cozy (especially inside the actual vault!) and appeared to be at capacity while we were there, so we expected a leisurely meal over the course two hours or more.... Nope. Service was very fast, friendly, and we were frequently checked on for drinks. Appetizers came out before we had much time to even anticipate them. Seafood Rangoons and Pot Stickers were freshly prepared and delicious way to kick things off. Mains were Blackened Chicken Alfredo and Lobster Alfredo. Both came out with al dente pasta and a light Alfredo sauce that incorporated the main ingredient well into each. Not too rich, and not too thick. Very tasty. The Lobster was fresh and plentiful, consisting mainly of claw meat. I was eating large pieces of lobster until the last bite! We finished things off with a slice of red velvet cheesecake (plain cheese cake with a layer of moist red velvet cake in the middle and a chocolate crumb crust) that was very nice as well. We were out within the hour and for a price was very good for what we received! We can't wait to head back again sometime soon. read more
