I went here for the first time this week. I had an appointment with Victoria. I needed a partial highlight. I asked for light & bright blonde which is my usual. I received a drab color that was close to brown. Her pricing is outrageously high considering her skill set. Highest I've ever seen in this area. I left hating my color. It's the worst I've had in 30 years! Bottom line she doesn't understand color, especially blonde. When I told her I was unhappy, she was rude and blamed me! Do Not go to her for color if you care about your hair. It was an awful experience and I will never go here again. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I went to the newest stylist for a half an inch trim and had at least two inches cut off. The hair cut was nothing like I asked or wanted. He said that it is a French haircut. I am almost 62. I get regular haircuts every 6-8 weeks and highlights two or three times annually since 2021 and I have never had a bad experience. She wants to know what I want and offers expert advice always. She suggests best ways to maintain her good work between visits. She even called a business owner friend to ask about openings when I needed a job. A true good soul. I wasn't happy with the color brand and ballooning price of my old salon, and got an appointment with "Gator" - new to the area, but seasoned hair stylist. I got a good 3-4 inches off and painstaking foilage - he is warm, patient, makes excellent suggestions, and I have found a new go-to guy! My go to for haircuts in Williamsburg. On the occasion that I don't make an appointment beforehand and go with next available, I still come away happy with my cut. The location is nice. The only drawback is the parking is very limited. There is space for maybe three total cars. There is parking right around the block in Colonial Williamsburg if needed. I would not pay for parking in the garage. read more

They give me one price when I got there then another when leaving and told me that it took longer then expected and that my kind of people should go somewhere else like a barber shop. They suggested some places the different in prices that I was quoted was $25 at first I was charged $50 at the end for a small side undercut with no pattern. I was also told I didn't call on the phone and tell them what I wanted when I actually did. I said I needed what I had evened out and would love a pattern put in I was given an appointment and told no problem but later the manager said it never happened that all I said was I wanted it evened out never mentioned anything about a pattern and that I wanted it skin at one point she thought. When the lady cutting my hair decided she didn't want to try putting a shape in my hair after asking for pictures of things I liked that I showed on my phone and I even said just any lines are fine instead of telling me she didn't think she had the skill she went and got the manager and told her I was a trouble client. I felt horrible they also watched me back my car out of the place after I payed the high rate as if I was going to do something to the place. They act kind at first And you let your gard down then that happens. I was also a bit forcefully asked how I was going to TIP on my card or cash I included the $5.00 tip I gave out of fear in my $50.00 price I always tip but this time I was scared. The actual cut took maybe 15 minutes. Most of it was the new stylist trying to figure it out and asking me questions and I was charged for it. Maybe it was because of the your kind of people remark? Whatever that means. I'm not going back for sure. I will say the stylist did do a good job but if she didn't want to finish next time she should talk to people tell them don't just get your manager to stand and glare at them they say mean things so they are shocked. I'm still wondering what was said about me. I left shocked sad and scared. I'm also scared they might attempt to contact me from this review like some business owners do to people. I have followed Ken G for 20 plus years. Kenos awesome! I like Scotland Street, and would give it five stars but for the fact there is no handicap parking. There is a great ramp to use, but no H.C. parking places. There is room for two large or three smaller cars. Right now I can't drive, so my wife drops me off. However when I'm able to again it would be nice to have a spot so I don't have to park in the garage. When I do park there, I run the risk of tripping as the path from the garage to the salon has roots and rocks. I've tripped but caught myself I'm the past. read more

I booked second appt before I left they called to confirm everything was great went to my appt and the girl that did my hair was gone. they didn't call me to let me know. They just assigned me to another person when I got there I got someone that picked through my hair like she just graduated beauty school. I have blonde hair I left with orange. Been very happy with Jordan and have been seeing her for cuts for a year now. I'm in the process of growing out my hair and she's very honest with me about how much to trim and how long between visits. Basically I come in for just the lightest 'dusting' and on my way for a few more months. Staff is very friendly, the dog is incredibly adorable. My only issues was my last visit (not the current one in December 2019) the gal at the reception area was majorly into pot and talked about it while I was waiting, uncomfortably so, and kept asking why I didn't want to smoke it - thank goodness she is gone! She made a number of us in the waiting area very uncomfortable. My last visit I met another receptionist who was more level headed and much friendlier to older customers. Please keep her! I had a new stylist who started my highlights mid scalp. I went back to have her correct them and it wasn't any better. The owner was aware and did nothing to rectify the situation. I enjoyed going to Scotland St. Salon when Ashley was there. Unfortunately, she moved away and recommended I switch to Ellorie. I saw her 3 times, each time getting a worse haircut. For my next appointment, she cancelled and I had to wait NINE weeks to see her. For the final appointment, the salon suggested I book with Karen instead. Because I'd gotten such bad haircuts from Ellorie, I sent Karen suggestions in advance on my hair needs. The salon's young and rude front desk person then called me to say that Karen refused to see me. These people don't know how to run their business, and I will NEVER go back. read more

Overall my first experience at this salon is 2.5 stars. I had an appointment with one of the new stylists - just a trim about 2 inches, super simple. The haircut itself was pretty okay, but I felt very neglected in terms of communication. He didn't ask me where I part my hair (like in the middle or to the side). He just chose to part my hair in the middle (which I normally don't) and just styled it that way. I wanted more of a side bang style and he didn't really pay attention when I was pulling up photos to show what I was going for. No apologies or anything when he was yanking my hair to fix the knot. He barely talked to me and I don't know if it's because I'm asian and I look younger than I am, but I felt very neglected in terms of communication. I had to wait 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time today before my stylist Elorie even noticed me. The front desk welcomed me but did not tell her I was there and she apparently has no idea what her appointments are for the day. If I did this in my job I would be fired. I had my worst salon experience at Scotland street salon. not only did my "stylist" ignore what I wanted, she completely butchered my hair. after asking for a balayage, I received an entire head of big bird yellow hair with my untouched dark brown as roots. The color was not blended at all. I came back the next day to ask for a refund and they were hesitant. they asked me to come back later in the day, and the manager refused to pause what she was doing to speak with me. The stylist, Rachel, told me I should "know what I wanted" when I came in with a photo. Although their counterpoint was to fix my hair, I was not confident I would leave with any sort of improvement. I moved to Williamsburg a few weeks ago and, like most women, finding a hair stylist was a high priority. After reading the Yelp reviews of the top salons, I chose Scotland Street. I made an appointment with Brianna based on the stellar review she received for a pixie cut--my style. I am so glad I chose Brianna----she really listened to what I wanted regarding my cut and whether I wanted to let my hair go gray or have a color correction. I am so pleased with my cut and decided to wait and see if I really liked going natural. Whatever I ultimately decide, I feel I can trust Brianna's advice and expertise. I got my hair colored here, and it looks horrible! I asked my dresser for an icy pink color, and explicitly asked her for a NOT VIBRANT pink color, and she gave me exactly what I asked her not to do. There are also parts of my hair that is CLEARLY bleached but no pigment was added back to it. The color is incredibly uneven and awful. Throughout the process, I kept asking if the pink was going to come out BRIGHT and my stylist kept repeating no. In the end, she said it's because of my original hair color. I also asked my dresser to shorten my layers, and she took the ENTIRE top section of my hair and chopped it all off all at once. My hair has one GIANT layer and it looks so unnatural! I also asked my stylist to avoid my ear area because of a new piercing and she kept hitting it but she was so distracted talking to other customers and coworkers that she didnt hear me when I asked her again and again to avoid that area. When I said I didn't like the pink, my stylist said it's because of the original shade of my hair, but when I asked in the beginning of my idea for the color could be done, she said no problem. I'm going back to my original salon to fix this. It's a total disaster. read more

PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR HAIR DO NOT GO HERE! THIS IS A REAL REVIEW. I used to get my hair colored here and it was not as bad but I recently went in to get layers on my long hair. They took off over 6 inches of my hair and gave me a shaggy wolfcut. There is absolutely no fixing this and it destroyed my self esteem. I look like an emo kid gone wrong, I can probably cut it better. To make matters worse, they tried to charge me because I was almost crying and another stylist tried to come in and fix it and apparently I had to pay for the fixing that the other stylist tried to do when one of their stylists ( miranda) messed up so bad (the same price). I had long hair with a lot of volume and now when because the other stylist tried to texturized it and now its honestly the size of a small braid i used to do in the front, all of the volume is just gone. This place absolutely destroyed my self esteem and when they tried to charge me for for not only messing up my hair that bad, the same price because the other person tried to come in and fix it but again nothing was fixed it was already cut, even the person that came in said "I cannot put back hair" and I just started balling. Even after all that, they said me getting a refund for them messing up my hair so bad was crazy. I'm not even like a crazy Karen, everyone that saw my hair agreed with me, it was absolutely not what I asked for and it looks interesting (a bob cut with longer pieces in the back) For the sake of your hair, do not go to this place. If it is possible to give this place 0 stars I would but Yelp does not let me. I am a William and Mary student, and I have even heard this before but wanted to give it a chance. If you go to W&M, please go to Lucky, she can cut it for half the price, and much better. She also gives a discount to W&M students. read more

WOW. I saw Bri and went from a bob to a pixie cut and I can't brag about the experience enough. First, the salon is BEAUTIFUL. It's probably the most aesthetically pleasing I've ever seen. I had an appointment with Victoria Newnes Feb 8th and it went badly. I told Victoria I had a neck injury and needed to be careful when getting my hair washed she was so rough I had to hold onto the sink to keep my head from banging around. Victoria was very curt and rushed she kept dropping her tools, I had to use the wet towel on my head to clean the hair off her chair so my navy trousers would not be covered in hair from the lady before me. Victoria asked if I wanted her to use a hot iron on my hair and I said no but she ended up telling me she couldn't cut the angle with the hot iron and proceeded to burn my temple (no apology). When I told her I wanted the side angled evenly she was insulted and told me she felt I had gotten the style I asked for so I left. My husband laughed when I got home and asked if I had stuck my finger in a light socket. ***On the good side the salon is charming, the arrival area is bright and clean and smells fresh. I've been going to the same stylist in Norfolk since 2002 (love my stylist and the salon!) but was finally ready to switch to a closer salon in Williamsburg (since I live in Williamsburg now). I made an appointment and arrived 15 minutes early. The clock kept ticking as my appointment time came and went. No one ever came out to tell me my stylist was running late, or to offer me a drink of water or coffee-just nothing. Once I was 40 minutes past my appointment I let the receptionist know I couldn't wait any longer. She said sorry and then pointed to my "would-be" stylist and said "sorry she's running late." I said "oh, that's my stylist?" She had come in and out of the waiting area servicing other clients and never once addressed me. It would have been nice if she would have introduced herself; said sorry she was running late; may I get you something to drink, etc. I'm not coming back to this place! read more
