If I could give Dr. McKernan and his nurse less than 1 star I would. If you are looking for a physician and a staff who care about their patients, Dr. McKernan's office is NOT where you will find it. Without going into all of the details, they are the most uncaring, unprofessional, unsympathetic people I know. They interacted with my mother without any sympathy or empathy to her chronic back pain she's been dealing with since she injured her back as a teenager. His nurse went so far as to calling her names and telling my mother, SHE made the decision my mother didn't need to speak to Dr. McKernan after repeatedly calling his office for him to return her call. Dr. McKernan changed my mother's treatment from the regiment she was on for years with her pain management doctor in Dallas. When it didn't work, he ignored her calls asking to be put back on the treatment she was previously on. After waiting nearly a week, Dr. McKernan finally called, he finally called from a blocked number, not a BS&W number. Due to the number of spam calls we all get, she didn't answer the call and missed speaking with him. His voicemail was neither compassionate or consoling and stated that he would not continue the treatment she had been on for years even though it worked because he dislikes the drug. He continued by telling her the prescription she was on should give her enough time to find another physician. My mother tried to reach Dr. McKernan again for several days. On March 4, 2022, she received a call from his nurse who was abusive, rude, and very unprofessional. I personally tried to reach Dr. McKernan several times without success. After numerous repeated calls, I finally spoke to Dr. McKernan who again was unsympathetic to my mother's pain (a great quality to have in a pain management doctor) and refused to continue the treatment that had been working for years. He told me that she needed to find another physician. I called administration to file a complaint and spoke to a Ms. Deavea McMurry, who, too, was extremely unprofessional and even more uncaring. Stating to me repeatedly "My job is just to take the complaint...". I asked to speak her boss, a Mr. Bill Selby, who's number rolls straight to voicemail. Mr. Selby and I finally spoke regarding the very uncaring, unprofessional and abusive behavior of Dr. McKernan, his nurse, and Ms. McMurry. He asked me on 3/8/2022 to give him a few days to look into this matter and he would get back in touch with me. As seems to be the norm for BS&W, he never called back! I reached out to him over a week later, again having to leave a voicemail. When he returned my call, he state the formal apology I sought from Dr. McKernan and his nurse was "not going to happen" because "we just don't do that.". I was shocked! A doctor, a nurse and an administrator in the COMPLAINT department treats a patient with total lack of care, respect or humility, much less any empathy for the patient's pain and medical condition and the hospital's stance is "we don't apologize"!! Sidenote: My mother's previous pain management doctor, her pharmacist and another local medical advisor all disagree with how Dr. McKernan handled my mother's treatment. Her previous doctor going as far as saying "[Dr. McKernan] has eased all of the work we accomplished over years.". Yet, Dr. McKernan, his nurse who called an 81 year, 4'11", 110lbs woman names and refuse to apologize for their appalling behavior. read more

Soooo....Scott & White. I went to S&W a number of times while here for undergrad several years ago and wasn't terribly impressed, and things are about the same as they've always been. Demi-professionalism everywhere, frequently resorting to treating the symptoms of things instead of searching out and healing the root cause, and just a general sense of lackluster service and care. However, I did find a GP here I think I like. Dr. Anne Marie Eschberger was professional, efficient, smart, and just engaged enough to keep up a conversation and answer all my questions with patience, and just clinical enough so when it came time to do some otherwise embarrassing exams, I didn't feel awkward. Perfect. She earns 4-5 stars from me, honestly, but as usual, my overall experience at S&W ranged from "meh" to quietly laughing to myself as I witnessed some barely professional behavior from nurses and general staff. St. Joseph's staff tends to be a lot warmer and more efficient, so I usually prefer to go there, but I think I'll keep coming to Dr. Eschberger as my GP. read more

These people are crooks. Extremely disappointed. My wife NEVER goes to the doctor. I finally convinced her to go in for a well-woman exam, and they are refusing to bill insurance as a well-woman exam, but want to charge us $630. This is the second time we have had a problem with billing with these idiots, and have ceased all services with them. That being said, I just found out that since we have had our records moved, we have received another bill. Can't wait to see what this one is. UPDATE: That bill we just got is for another $152 for the same visit. All in all, they are claiming that we owe nearly $800 for a normal annual visit with nothing special to charge us for. Perhaps, you should have your billing department educated on proper billing procedures, or perhaps you should learn what takes place in a well-woman. I mean, if EVERYBODY else's insurance pays their well-woman claim... UPDATE: So, these trashy people had someone call me to tell me that HAD my wife scheduled her intake visit, then had another visit for a well-woman exam, it would have been covered, but since the doctor did it all at the same time, we are liable for all of it. Overall, I've been pleased with Scott & White's care. Wait times to be seen for previously scheduled appointments have increased over time, though. My main concern (which actually warrants a 1 star rating) is the following. In short, Dr. Michael Miller (ENT) misdiagnosed me. I had little to no voice for more than a year, and he continued telling me that I was misusing my voice. He referred me for speech therapy twice; this did not resolve my issue. I ended up finding a laryngologist in San Antonio who was able to correctly diagnose me. I had amyloidosis, and needed vocal cord surgery. read more

She is phenomenal and went out of her way to make a special appointment for me when I couldn't get one through a different doctor. She is informative and caring. My daughter was sick and went to the Baylor Scott & White clinic on September 12th for a simple doctor visit. The Dr looked at her for 2 minutes, said she had a cold and sent her home with no medications or anything to help alleviate the illness. They then proceeded to charge my 18 year old daughter $168.00 for the visit, which in and of itself is ridiculous, considering they did absolutely nothing for her. Then, to add insult to injury, we received a bill for ANOTHER $164.98 for additional tests that they "said" they ran. We have no results from any of these tests and as I'm typing this, 15 days after the doctor visit, my daughter is still sick. In my opinion, this clinic took advantage of a young student, did absolutely nothing to help her sickness and then further took advantage by adding on unnecessary tests without further advising her of the costs. Yes, they had her sign a piece of paper saying that there "could" be additional fees, but after already paying $168 for nothing, then to try and add on another $164.98 is just not acceptable. I'm lodging this complaint so that you, and everyone else will know the kind of business that this clinic is running. read more

Only giving one star because zero is not an option. I have repeatedly been billed incorrectly and the most recent time is the last straw. I was sent a bill for $495 for bloodwork. I called the 1-800 number on the back of the bill and told the representative I reached that I wanted to dispute my bill because my bloodwork was routine and was ordered as part of my annual physical. I have Cigna insurance and they always pay for preventative care. I was told I would hear back in 10-14 business days. Over a month later, they finally called back and said my claim was being denied because I had received the tests on my bill. Yes I had but they were preventative so I didn't understand why I was being charged for them. So then that claim was being brought to the review board. That was a week ago and still have not heard back. After I received the same bill from them as a past due amount, I called for the lab order from my appointment to verify that I had only been tested for the routine things and was told I had to go to the hospital to pick up that information. When I received them and reviewed them I discovered that I had indeed only been screened for the regular tests everyone is tested for as part of their annual physical. Then I spoke to billing to find out why I had been charged for these tests. The woman in that office told me it was because there was a diagnosis listed. (How can there be a diagnosis before the test?) I told her I had never been charged for these tests before so she brought up my charges from the past year that showed the exact same tests and that they were coded as preventative that year. Before I pointed this out, the billing rep tried telling me that the year before I had reached my deductible. I had not reached my deductible in 2016 because I had not used my insurance for anything and only went to the doctor for my annual physical. She also told me that if I mention anything in my annual physical, they will begin to run the tests as non-preventative. I never mentioned anything in my annual physical. After speaking to billing, I called my insurance company who was able to see that the doctor had coded my physical as preventative but not the tests. She called billing who recommended that she speak to the doctor but refused to give her the number so I had to give it to her. She then called the doctor's office but of course the doctor wasn't there. The nurse from the doctor's office called me today and said that the reason I'm being billed for the tests because of my lipid panels because I have hyperlipidemia. I have had this for years and have never been billed for it. I mentioned this and was told to call the billing office to see if their billing had changed. Billing told me that no it had not changed so I called to doctor's office back to relay this information because of course no one in the system can talk to each other. The doctor's office then said she would check with the doctor once again as to why my lipid panels were coded as non-preventative. She also seemed baffled that the billing department couldn't help me. So who knows how long this will take to hear back from someone. I am done with the Baylor Scott and White system. I will be finding a new doctor. I put so much detail in this review to show how inefficient and poor their system is. The charges on my bill are suspiciously vague and I believe I could be charged for the new hospital. I also believe I am being discriminated against because my lipid panels previously came back high in past years. I hate to use the "d" word but I feel it is justified in this case. read more

I'm prescribed to a medication that causes withdrawal symptoms if stopped taking on a whim. With the doctors here at Scott & White, you have to cater to their schedule..not the other way around. They won't hesitate to tell you "Oh, despite the fact you called in yesterday to get a small piece of paper signed to get your medication like you do every single month, you're just gonna have to wait till Monday because your doctor isn't in today." So, I'm supposed to just deal with the withdrawals? Unacceptable. read more

I have anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. I went in today to try and get my prescriptions refilled, which is a complicated situation for me personally (long story). I saw Dr. Bondalapati for maybe 10 minutes and left sobbing. With my particular situation, I was prepared for her to say no to refilling some of my controlled substances. However, she went above and beyond. Instead of just telling me no, saying that she personally didn't feel comfortable writing the scripts...she went as far as to say that NOBODY would be able to help me....can we just let that sink in, this ruined my mental state entirely. She told a person who has suicidal tendencies that NOBODY WOULD HELP THEM. THAT IS MONSTROUS. THAT IS DANGEROUS. THAT IS APPALLING. She is supposed to be a caregiver and a healer, and that is the complete opposite type of behavior. I even filled out a "questionnaire" MOMENTS before seeing her (which she clearly did not look at) in which I rated my levels of depression and anxiety. Suicidal and harmful thoughts were definitely circled on that paper. Again, I was mentally prepared to get shot down when I asked for controlled substances, that would not have ruined my entire day. Instead, this woman went out of her way to tell me, while I'm in tears, that my situation was practically hopeless and oh also..permanent. I am truly hurt and outraged by this. It has taken me 4 months to get up the courage and motivation to even make the fucking appointment (shout out to depression and anxiety), all the while having little subconscious thoughts telling me that nobody cared and the appointment would be a waste of time....typically those subconscious thoughts are not the truth. Guess that I was actually right in this case. If you have the desire to be a doctor who works in any field related to mental health, please for the love of all things holy have some FUCKING EMPATHY. I am disgusted by the lack of good judgement this woman had in this particular situation. The doctors are great. The business side of things not so much. Their computer software loses paperwork which leads to double billing of old and new insurance. The staff then claims you didn't register correctly when they're the one who suggested the old insurance in the first place. I will not be returning here and will find a new doctor that has professional and courtesy staff. read more

They keep deleting my review I just want to make sure no one goes here and ends up like I did. Basically got chewed out by a male nurse over the phone telling me I'm not sick saying I'm faking it because that day I went to see an Indian doctor there and she told me she would get me a Zpac. Well I had to wait till class was over then went to the pharmacy and it was never rang in... so I had to call the doctor. I went back two hours later and still no prescription was sent over so I called to complain and ended up talking to this man. I think his name is Dave but he told me I was making stuff up that the doctor didn't prescribe me anything while I was looking at the page she wrote it on for me. I started crying because he was screaming at me and he just hung up on me. I got my mom to come pick me up and drive me back to Houston to go to the doctor and turns out I had mono. My doctor said all my symptoms were obvious that she needed to run the test. So the conclusion I came to is never ever ever go here unless you want to be screamed at, waste your money, don't get the medicine prescribed, or be prescribed the wrong thing because they aren't educated enough to actually know what you're sick with. read more

Signed in at 10:40 am on Saturday for my son but only was informed that because three kids were ahead of him, the wait time is 1 hour and 20 minutes, and the doctor will leave at noon, therefore, my son cannot be seen by the pediatrician. I am frustrated to realize that a patient's wellness is less critical than this doctor's schedule. And I am very appreciative of Dr. Betty Svendsen who saw our son one time at close to 1:00 pm on a Saturday. We didn't realize we were making her extending hours but today I know. They treat their patients very poorly in the Orthopedics section. They do not keep a stock of any injectables on hand. Always have to order them. YOU have to call them to let them know you need them and on the day of the visit, they are unable to get them. I was told today it would take 3-4 weeks minimum to get the Synvisc I have injected in both knees. Treated me as if I were the problem, not as a patient. Informed the Dr. I was in a lot of pain. He tells me take 2 Ibuprofen or 2 Tylenol. I am taking Vicodin for pain. Have taken up to 3000 mg of Tylenol but to no avail. Will need to find an orthopedist who can help with my problems. read more

My son is required to have the rabies vaccine series for vet school. The school (TAMU) offered to do the entire series for $ 720.00. However after speaking to several current students he was told by a young lady to go to Baylor Scott and White because they were a lot cheaper than TAMU Health Cntr by a couple hundred dollars. So my son called them and asked for the price for receiving the shots. He was told by the estimate department that they could not tell him that information until he had an appt. So they transferred him to make the appt, which he did, and then they transferred him back to the estimate dept. the young lady he spoke with told him that the cost would be as follows: $ 284 for the first shot (includes seeing the doctor) and then $ 69.75 for the remaining 2 shots providing he didn't have to see the doctor. We were VERY upfront about our insurance not paying for any part of the shots and that we would be paying for them ourselves. So he went to the appt and saw Dr Ian Craig Reinemeyer. The doctor spent about 5 minutes with him and told him that unless the shot made him sick or any other adverse complications he would not have to see the doctor again and all he would need to do was come in - no appt needed - and get the remaining 2 shots. All is good so far. when my son went to check out, he tried to pay the $ 284, but the person checking him out told him not to pay it and let them submit it to insurance. Same thing happens when he goes the next week for the second shot in the series. So I get an EOB from my insurance company and Baylor Scott and White had submitted a total bill of $ 1625.02 with a repriced amount of $ 480.49. Well, flags and bells are ringing but my son assures me that we only would owe $ 284, because that is what he was told. I get the bill and not only do they NOT show the repriced amount but have charged me $ 1625.02. We immediately call the billing office who refer me to their Patient Relations. I speak with this lady and tell her what has happened. She tells me that this has happened before - patient given one amount and then they charge way more than that. She is confident they will get this straightened out in our favor. So it is time for the third shot and I get another EOB from my insurance company and it is showing they submitted for $ 1272.46 and had a repriced amt of $ 341.51. He did not even see the doctor. My son has given them the date, time, how long he spoke to them and phone number he called and got the estimate of the $ 284 and $ 69.75. The only thing he didn't have was the young lady's name he spoke too. They record everything and what do you know, they cannot find the recording of where he was given the pricing my the estimate department after he made the first appt. I feel like this place is a scam, dishonest and just looking to lure people in and then hit them with outrageous fees. Do not believe anything these people tell you and certainly do NOT go there. As for Scott and White as a whole, it seems like this big buisness is more concerned about making money than they are concerned about patients. The doctor I specifically saw in the urgent care clinic, Dr. Deedra Wright, let me in tears and PAIN twice in one week! Upon my first visit she scoffed at my refusing to take ibuprofin or another over the counter anti-inflammatory and pain med- even though I have a history of these drugs causing adverse side effects that are equally painful! Then she pressed all over my abdomen in areas my endometriosis has spread, and she had the nerve to even say that only a doctor can diagnose endometriosis. I'd like to point out that the only way to get endometriosis diagnosed is to get surgery! She said my only option was a shot that was a form of the anti-inflammatory over the counter pain meds. I asked her why she couldn't prescribe pain medicine that actually worked for me like hydrocodone. She told me that doctors don't prescribe those for girls on their periods unless they have a severe case of endometriosis, and the ob/gyn would have to prescribe them. (so again, unless i get surgery to find out if my endometriosis is 'severe enough' they wont give pain meds- even though I have a long family history of endometriosis and even though I've been fainting, vomiting, and having diarrhea from the pain being so bad) I asked her if there were any side effects for the shot she was trying to give and she said there weren't any side effects similar to narcotic pain meds.... which had nothing to do with my question. Once she finally gave me the list of side effects that can come with this shot, I was horrified to find most of the side effects were the same side effects I got from taking drugs like ibuprofen. So after two wasted hours of my time on two days of this week, here I am without any help from the doctor. Did i mention that my gyno found what looks like ovarian cysts today? But I guess my pain just isn't real enough for these people to help me. I'm not sure if its because this is a college town or what, but I sincerely feel like Dr. Wright thought I was just some college kid trying to get opiate drugs. I have never been so insulted in my life, all while still dealing with this very real pain. I don't know why I even wasted my time here. read more

Hate to give a one star in many ways because for the most part I find the staff in person to be professional,nice and no complaints about the Docs. The record keeping, getting through to find out anything well good luck. One time the record keepers lost all my personal info where do you live? I was disgusted, my all time fav was when they informed me it was time for a colonoscopy since Scott&White had administered one just three years earlier and stated I was good for 10 years I really wanted to ask what happened to my records? They apologized when I pointed out the error. Then my pharmacist has repeatably gotten the run around even at one point Scott and White wanted to blame her for the confusion. The last time(second problem she has with them) my pharmacist phone call got transferred repeatably never getting a proper answer. Finally when I screamed at a clerk(it was not enough to ask nicely) i WAS GIVEN OVER TO A LIVE PERSON who was able to find my records and explain how to use the medication I was given. The walk in clinic on University is great hardly ever a wait if you are desperate I say that because God help you if down the road there is any confusion it will be very difficult to sort out . My Chart to listen to them its the best thing since the Bible yeah right of very limited value. Anyway I have had enough I will never ever use Scott&White again read more
