The consultation was professional and I was sold but during the second visit after I paid a huge portion - when the implants were put in he was: 2 hours late, very aggressive in his manner , poor communication and almost hostile. I paid over seven thousand for his BS and signed all types of papers. It was a terrible experience. The implants he put in have caused more bone loss in my jaw than before. I would not take my dog to see him. This is my first negative review and he deserves it.

The bone of my lower jaw was thin and six other doctors had warned him not to try grafts or implants on my right side. He ignored the warning and shattered a hole in my lower jaw. Then he told me he would construct a bone graft and proceeded to take a chisel to the bone and make the wound larger, telling me that he was going to make my jaw stronger. Of course you cannot repair shattered bone like that. I wound up with a huge infection and a hole in my mouth that causes me pain to this day. I have gone to countless oral surgen who have looked at my X-rays and said, "This is Voodoo medicine. I am sorry for you." Read the rest of these reviews. The red flags are up.

I made an appointment to see Dr. Gelfman and was informed that it would be $150 just to have a…read moreconsultation visit which is not covered by insurance (this is their creepy underhanded way of charging more $ by submitting to insurance as a consultation instead of as a Problem Focus Exam - which is covered 80% by my insurance Delta Dental and has a $50 deductible- which I found out after contacting my insurance company about what claims are covered). Since I was concerned about the problems I was having with my teeth I figured the $150 would be a necessary expense. I informed the receptionist that I could not afford extra expenses if they aren't covered by insurance and she assured me that my insurance would cover the panaramic X-ray needed to have a consultation and if it wasn't covered they could request a full panel X-ray from my regular dentist that referred me to Dr. Gelfman. The receptionist assured me that they would check with my insurance to make sure it would be covered and not to worry. Upon arriving they called me into what looked like a partial closet took the X-ray and told me to have a seat. Dr. Gelfman seemed competent and nice overall but the way his office is managed is super shady. After speaking to him for maybe 10 minutes at most I was handed a bill upon checking out for $300. When I asked why the bill was twice what I was originally quoted the answer I received is that the insurance only allows an full panel or panaramic X-ray to be done once every 3 years. I asked why they hadn't requested my X-ray from the referring dentist and was told that her X-ray was not allowed nor acceptible. So now what to do? Well for starters I want to warn anyone reading this to check with your insurance personally and not trust the people running the office in basically any Dr. Office because now it's a hearsay issue. Secondly, I informed my regular dentist of the shady policies at this office so that she will hopefully discontinue referring patients over as it reflects badly on her practice in two ways - the patient is financially penalized for not having the right type of X-ray and second, the patient is now questioning the morality of regular dentist for recommending a shoddy practice that is underhanded in their business/billing practices. After several phone calls back and forth between this practice and my insurance company I learned that the way they bill the visit is why it isn't covered. If they billed it as an exam instead of a consultation then it would be covered. When I asked the receptionist to resubmit the bill it became an argument and debate about whether it is truly a consultation or an exam. This was true NYC lack of customer service at it's finest. I strongly suggest you do not go to this practice, and wherever you decide to go check and recheck the billing procedures /policies before accepting any care otherwise you may well find yourself owing quite a lot more than my $300 lesson.

From the moment I walked in, the entire team was warm and welcoming. Dr. Shon was attentive, friendly, and took the time to carefully review my documents. During my cleaning and fluoride treatment, he was gentle--this was the first time I left a cleaning without soreness. A major plus was how thoroughly he explained my X‑rays, showing each image on the screen and pointing out what to watch for. The hygienist was equally wonderful, attentive, and kind. I truly feel like I hit the jackpot finding this office, and I look forward to my next appointment!

I believe the filling replacements on my tooth led to months of pain and eventual abscess requiring a root canal. And to make matters worse, when I decided to leave all paid up, many months later I was notified I now owed through an audit 300 more dollars. Funny how those audits never go in your favor. Seems like new practice, same shady dealings.
