Initially contacted Scott mid-summer 2015 to replace 2 side gates. He did a great job, so I contracted him to update my 2 bathrooms. Scott did a wonderful job which included stripping the walls (both bathrooms) of layers of old paint, priming and painting, pulling up portions of the flooring that needed replacing, installing medicine cabinets, towels racks, hand rails for steadiness, vanities and sinks. Scott also installed a ceiling fan in my TV room which was extremely helpful during the heat wave. Scott charges by the hour, so in order to make good use of his time, if anything was needed from the home repair stores, Scott would advise of what was needed, if need be, I'd take a picture and would go to the stores and purchase the item(s). This worked out very well for both Scott and myself as he kept working while I went shopping for whatever item(s) was needed. Scott was always in communication with me as to when he would be arriving and his progress, he was also very good in answering any questions. If a repair requested is outside his realm of expertise, he is very upfront about letting you know. Scott's explains his billing and charges and provides receipts if he makes a purchase on your behalf. I'm very pleased with the results and would recommend him for your home repair needs. read more

We've hired Scott to do a few projects at our house, the most recent one repairing and updating our master bath. Scott installed a ventilation fan, created an aesthetically pleasing "trap door" allowing easier attic access, did drywall repair that had been damaged by a leaking shower enclosure, installed a new shower head, replaced bathroom sink faucets, and prepped, primed and painted the entire bathroom. (Not an easy job as there were layers upon layers of paint and old wallpaper paste.) He also prepped, primed and meticulously painted the vanity and 3 doors in the bathroom to a flawless finish. Scott is a perfectionist, which is why we love him so much. He works efficiently but to a level of quality that you would want for your own home. He will listen to what your ideas are, and also without any pressure, offer his advice and suggestions which we appreciate as he has a huge knowledge base about many aspects of home repair. Scott demolished a dry rotted deck at my home 18 months ago and replaced it with a new much stronger deck with all pressure treated lumber framing and composite stair treads, hand rails and deck boards. No Nails were used, every connection was made with nuts, bolts and sunken screws. Scott paints every wooden board and post with two coats of primer and finish paint prior to installation. The deck is extremely well engineered super strong and I am very happy with it. During the construction process changes were made and Scott was very much involved in making suggestions and providing his experience to and for the new deck project. We decided on steel wire horizontal banaisters with this mostly wooden deck which required precise measurements and drilling to insert the steel wire down the deck stairs and, although Scott had not ever worked with this material or design, he worked very hard to learn and the completed deck looked great then and now 18 month later. Scott Goodrich is more than a handyman, he's very familiar with construction codes, an asset that helped us decide not to install ceiling fixtures that might have crashed down on us from overuse, weathering or earthquake. He could have hung 2 fans in our home but it turned out the ceiling supports were not able to hold the weight. It's too bad our apartment maintenance folks went ahead and hung the dining room fan without batting an eye. We always wondered why it wobbled up there at high speed. I'm glad it's down and gone. Among the many craftsmen who have worked on our house since we bought it in 2015, Scott has been the most meticulous and precise of the lot. He thinks for himself, researches a situation with the mind of an engineer. He built for us floor-to-12-foot ceiling shelving in our garage, which is as solid as a rock. He installed a new door to the outside very precisely. He figured a way to install a pesky 2-way lock on an inacurrately framed and built gate securing our property. I had Scott paint 7 rooms in my house and also do a few repairs. He did beautiful work, and the rooms look lovely. He gave me many good suggestions as to paint color and choices of door knobs and cupboard knobs. The repair work was such a relief to get completed. He fixed a screen door, installed new knobs, hinges, clothing hooks, repaired some drywall, and sanded down surfaces that really needed it. Scott was always prompt, courteous, and very helpful. I contacted Scott to look at a very challenging project at my home in Ojai. I have a 50 year old trumpet vine arbor over my patio. The original support beams were true 6"x6" redwood that were also 50 years old and severely dry rotted. The rebuild had to be done while the trumpet vine remained in place. Scott recently completed major work on the exterior of my home. He removed, replaced and painted fascia boards and exterior trim, installed flashing and caulking around all windows, and repainted the entire siding. My home looks like new. What more could you want in a Handyman. Scott is an intelligent, polite, personable, well rounded professional, who definitely knows what is needed in a beach environment. He will do what you request of him, but also make suggestions regarding other things which need attention before they get too far gone for repair. I spoke with Scott on the phone a couple of months ago, and he said he would call me back to give me a quote. He did not call me back and strangely, just called me back now, seemingly confusing me with someone else by the same name. The call seem like a mixture of a random call, and an attempt to see if I was still in the market for a handyman. Not a good impression on ethics. You can just tell the truth. It was an odd hookup, and not only did he take the time to go and get the correct fitting, but he checked for any leaks, etc. He was able to come out very quickly after I called him, and couldn't be more professional, polite and detail oriented.
