This organization (Scott Iron Works) performed decent work in the past but has very poor follow up and no concern for their older customer base in Detroit. The main point of contact, Peter, has become unprofessional and rude, and never returns calls as promised. My neighbor and I have reached out to Peter well above 15 to 20 times over the past several months only to be told we're relocating, we've just relocated, we're working with other customers, call me back, I'll call you back, etc. Additionally, I reached out to Peter today (10/26/2021) just to inquire (again) about when might his company be available to come out to my home to provide an estimate on a fence they placed in my yard that has been effected by trees and take a look at my next door neighbor's steel door that his company installed over 20 years ago (as he made a commitment to come out approximately 2 weeks ago but never called or showed up), or determine if he has no interest in working with me or my neighbor (for whatever reason). Today, his unprovoked negative and snide disposition speaks for itself, not to mention during the preparation of this review someone was literally writing comments at the bottom of the screen such as "this review is looking pretty epic! nice!" and "that's all you got". Update: they did finally finish the work. It just took months. So I am updating the stars, but I do think they need to be a lot more responsive and communicate more. They also need to switch their philosophy to be "under promise and over deliver" versus heir current approach which is over promise and under deliver. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY....Unless you want to be scammed out of your deposit and work to never be completed. I wish I would have read the other reviews before we gave them half the money to do the job we hired them to do. The woman answering the phone constantly tells you she is over 90 and there is nothing she can do. Pete never calls back but was certain to deposit the check for the "deposit" the same day. Dependability? worse than bad I contacted Pete via email and sent him a pic of what he had installed in a neighboring community. He gave me a bid of $475 plus tax and set an appointment for the following Saturday. No show. No call. I called him 1/2 hour after he was to be here. He said he had a big job he was working, again asked for my address. I asked if this was his regular way of doing business; he said no. He did say he was supposed to give estimates to 21 potential customers that day and had not called any of them. He said he would be here between 10-2 the next day (Sunday.) No show. I've worked at Scott Iron 4 different times since 1989. I've read the reviews and out of loyalty I feel that I need to defend my former employer. 1) When you dont get your product when promised it's usually because it's being powder coated which is done at another facility. They do a great job but they take FOREVER because they do powder coating on massive scale and it's first come first serve. Unfortunately this is the norm and has always been a problem. 2)No one I know is more quality minded and hard to please than Pete Petit. There's been many times he's sent something back to paint due to quality or we've had to rebuild it because the forklift driver ran it over at paint. Pete would rather have you mad at him for being WAY late with the product than to sell you a lesser quality product than normal. 3) The Secretary is also an owner and is 90 years old and still working because that's what the Petits do so give her a break. I understand how frustrating it can be thinking you got ripped off because they don't call back and whatnot but they are good, sound people that are trying to run a company that they used to run with at least three other family members. read more

15 years ago we used this company to custom make a rail around an inground pool off our deck they did a beautiful job This July I ordered two small fences to be put in that were supposed to be completed before Labor Day in September. We're still waiting! The owner Pete is very friendly but overwhelmed his staff doesn't show up for work / the powder coating manufacturer he uses is unreliable so everything backs up. Unfortunately you have to listen to his complaints on the phone . I feel very sorry for him but as a consumer and customer I would never use them again it is now October and I'm still waiting for the other Gate to be put in when they came out last week unannounced it was missing a part so couldn't be installed he never called to tell me when he would come out or even call to see when he could reschedule. I finally had my husband call him and he told us we were rude because he's busy there is another ironworker in Livonia we're going to him to have the other half made even though I gave him half down we shouldn't have to be treated this way. His wife handles the phones in the office and when I called to complain that no one was calling me back because the owners voicemail is full she hung up on me. Only giving 1 star as I'm unable to leave zero stars! My mom ordered a gate from them April 9th and Pete P. was prompt to pick up the deposit. As of today, June 3rd, they have not delivered the product. She has been consistently given the run around and lied to about when the installation would take place. The installer supposedly broke his foot, but this "accident" apparently happened prior to the deposit being taken. She is now several weeks beyond the original promised delivery date. My mom just filed a complaint with the BBB, and is in the process of filing a complaint with another agency. Please beware!! read more

Scott Iron Works has done several jobs for me, both personal and professional. The quality is always top notch. You must be prepared to pay by check when placing your order. All details of your job will be double checked in the initial design phase so you get exactly what you need. Plan ahead and don't promise your customer any time frame. I have never had to go back for corrections because they crafted the rails exactly as I needed them. We need more quality suppliers like Scott's! read more
