The front of the store had lots of signs, statues and other Knick knacks. Entering the store I was surprised at how much bigger it was than I first thought. It was full of items. There are dolls, card decks, casino chips, doorknobs, various tools, dinnerware, western posters, an old fashioned baby carriage, animal pelts. There was a whole room full of various beer cans and beer memorabilia. Old trunks, unique spice holders and glasses. I couldn't finish looking around. He found it overwhelming and waited in the car. It was a little crowded for me but I wanted to check the store out. If you like old items and rummaging around, you'll like this store.

If they do answer the phone call. I bought something that was quite expensive that snapped 3 days later and I'm trying to get an exchange or figure out how to contact the company to get a new one. But they will not contact me back, which is very frustrating for spending so much money. I was visiting from a different state, I was there 3 days ago. So I'm frustrated at the lack of communication, but the customer service and friendliness was very refreshing

Stayed in Deadwood a couple weeks ago & spent a few days walking the town, shopping, etc. This is the one place we came back to a couple times... probably didn't hurt they have really good ice cream too. Much of the stuff you can find at any of the shops up & down Main St., but this place definitely has a few unique & rare finds (see attached photo). Even if you don't buy anything (besides the ice cream of course), it's a fun place to browse & chat w/ the owners about the area. The lady that sold me my souvenir in the picture (I think) was the owner & very friendly & informative... not just the history, but stuff for out of towner's to do as well. You could tell she enjoyed interacting w/ customer/tourists. When my 12 y/o & I saw this work of art, we were mesmerized... boys & their toys. There were only 2 (different styles), but she told us she'd never sold one... until me... & only $180 (how could I not come home w/ this beauty for less than $200). Once she rang us up, she realized since she never sold one, she wasn't sure what to pack it in... don't exactly want to go traipsing through the streets w/ this flung over my shoulder. Back home now & every relative, friend & neighbor I've shown this too has been in awe... I wish now I'd bought both.

And beings this is my ALL TIME FAVORITE DIVE, I had to add it here. So the place is called . . . . THE MOONSHINE GULCH SALOON Go up the road in Hill City next to the Exxon gas station (the road might be called Deerfield Road?) and head for Rochford, a tiny old town nestled in the mountains. I'd ask for directions at the gas station here. It's about 20 minutes up this road from Hill City. This place ROCKS as the picture will show you. Betsy, the owner, will take you under her wing and tell ya a couple of stories if she's not busy. She makes her own french fries, and they're great, but the burgers are on the super small side. You don't go here for food. Unless it's her homemade fries. You go here for brews and to hear a yarn or two. This place is in the dictionary for the words "local color." One time I was here, there were two 80 year old banjo players playing their cute little hearts out and one of them was blind. Another time, I found Betsy nursing a stray baby deer from a bottle in front of the bar. Another time, she had a milk cow tied up next to the saloon. The place is a cross between old west stuff, kind of dumpy, yet fun. There's so much stuff nailed on the walls and on the ceiling it would take several hours to see everything. The BEST part, is to ride on your bike here when they do the annual Michelson Trail Bicycle Ride. Plan it so you'll finish up at this place and have a few brews. The clientele varies WILDLY from little old men, to bikers, to weird toothless yokels, to clowns--literally, to rich yuppies stopping by for the "quaint factor." Warning: if you do not like dives or drinking or funkiness or trippy people, or old things, you will not like this joint.
