5 stars and they continue to surprise me…read more Based on my visit on July 17, 2025, I want to add to my 5 star 2022 review, and to all the other positive things people have written here. The actions of everyone involved with that visit exceeded the already high opinion and expectations I've had for this practice. (Probably TMI, but I was returning after a 15-month gap, though the assumption at my last visit was that I'd have more dental work done and another cleaning before the end of 2004. I'd phoned earlier this week and Karissa was able to work some skilled scheduling magic to get me seen much sooner than I'd expected.) Dr. Lim was, as always, pleasant and skilled in his exam, and then excellent at clearly explaining the changes since he'd last seen me and what our options were for proceeding. Then he clearly and transparently answered my questions about the pros and cons of each option, and we agreed on a plan for the future dental work. Then, my teeth were cleaned by dental hygienist Kat (or Cat, shame on. me for not having clarified the spelling of her name, especially since this was the second time she'd worked on my teeth). For 20 years or more, until her retirement, Leslie had been the hygienist at this office who did my cleanings. She was excellent, and I figured she'd be a "hard act to follow," so it was a very pleasant surprise when Kat did my cleaning in 2024 and I realized that her skill level at both dental hygiene and patient interaction is everything one could possibly wish for, which was again the case on July 17. Also, the "desk staff" are always pleasant and helpful, including, of course, Mindy, who answered the phone when I called the next day to get the correct spelling of Karissa's name while neglecting to get the correct spelling of Cat's, and to explain that I was going to ignore the request to do a Google review but would add to my previous Yelp review. As I now have.

Then, I told my friend how they fashioned a video to take my teeth from all crooked to perfect with Invisalign (after been told by a dept head at a prestigious dental university this wouldn't work for me); she said that this practice told her whole family they need Invisalign! These are young people with gorgeous teeth. One visit after a cleaning they added a fluoride treatment without asking me. Then they charged me $75 for it, at least double what any other practice was charging at the time. I can't wait to try a new dentist that feels like their priority is medical rather than commercial.

I have had a lot of dental work done over the past 30 years and have been fortunate to have several excellent dentists during that time. Dr. Tapaltsyan is, by far, the best dentist I have ever had. What stands out to me is not only his skill, but the clear pride he takes in his work. He seems to approach dentistry as both a science and a craft, with a level of precision, care, and ongoing commitment to excellence that is rare to find. You can tell he is someone who continues to stay deeply engaged with the education, research, and advancement of his field, and that dedication shows in the quality of care he provides. The entire team at Berkeley Hills Dentistry has made my experience equally positive. The dental assistants are professional, capable, and attentive, and the front office staff has been excellent with scheduling, insurance questions, and explaining the cost of dental work. Everyone I have interacted with has been helpful, clear, and kind. I highly recommend Berkeley Hills Dentistry and the outstanding dental work of Dr. Tapaltsyan!

They took care of me quickly and I have been a loyal patient ever since. We book our appointments well in advance but the front staff is always helpful if we need to make changes as the appointment gets closer. My 2 year old is also a patient and has had two visits so far. Everyone here has been very patient and kind to her as well. She loves choosing a prize after her visit is complete. Street parking is plentiful and this office is located in a lovely area - you can take a stroll on Solano Ave or grab a coffee or bite to eat before or after. It is hard to find a good dentist; I sure am glad I found Berkley Hills Dentistry.

I came 15min early and only waited about 10min in the reception area after checking in. Fatima was my hygienist and was super sweet to me especially after bonking my head on their 360degree x-ray machine. She got me ice. But it was a very loud bonk. They should definitely verbalize to patients to "watch their head" while approaching the machine and explain what is happening next. It is a very tight and narrow hallway to the restroom which is also nearby the single x-ray machine that the office shares. I think adding a few neon or bright colored signs or stickers directly on the machine might help! After I was resting in the dental chair in my patient room and my cleaning was done, Fatima continued to talk to me about my next steps in my career and was very insightful about her own path to hygienist school. She continued to be pleasant and guided me (safely) to the DDS exam room. No 2nd injuries for me. Fatima continued to apologize and I could tell felt really bad about me hitting my head pretty hard. My forehead was swollen by the end of the week but it's 100% healed now. I have my next 6-month cleaning scheduled and excited to be back.

In fact, my last interaction with this…read moredentist was to cancel a routine cleaning and to inform them I moved from Berkeley and that I would no longer be a patient. I was told okay, and that there would be no charge since I cancelled in advance. I kept receiving texts reminding me of my upcoming appointment, so I called again and they assured me my appointment was cancelled and there would be no charge. A month or so passes and I get the mystery bill in the mail. When I called the office, the person on the other line hemmed and hawed about a deep cleaning (that was already paid for and happened in 2024), saying the office would contact me again with more details. Nothing in my dental insurance claims or documents comes close to the amount in this bill, and of course, the office never contacted me. Yesterday I got the same bill AGAIN. It feels like a retaliatory bill because I MOVED TOWNS. This place may have been fine once, but it seems like they're changing their business practices to be dishonest and predatory. Do not use this dentist. There are dozens of other options. I am on the verge of legal action. I have filed a complaint with the California Board of Dentistry and suggest any other patients being extorted by this scammy dentist do the same.

Dr. Kristen Forbes provides the highest care and is the most pragmatic doctor that I have met. Some dentists are like used car salesman and try to up-charge/talk you into lists of treatments. At Forbes your in and out in an hour (or less) having had the best dental care. Every time I try a new dentist closer to my apartment I'm reminded why it's better to just make the drive to Dr. Forbes. Can't say more about how great this place is.

Usually, it was the techs, but she did it herself on one occasion. Come my teeth cleaning appointments since then, I'd call to make sure she wasn't the one doing it. The doctor saw me right away when I cracked a tooth, which I appreciated. But, overall, it has been a pain to get regular appointments. If you have to reschedule, you're talking months out for another one and this last time after my teeth cleaning when I tried to schedule for my next cleaning, the receptionist said the next appointment was 7 months out. Teeth cleanings are supposed to happen every six months. When I questioned their lack of availability, a receptionist admitted they were down a doctor. Well, I guess they haven't rectified that in more than a year. I recently changed dentists cause of this scheduling frustration.

And the pandemic didn't keep the staff from being their normal, bright, and friendly selves. I've been going to Dr. Pacleb for over a decade, and I've never felt more at ease when going to a dentist's office. They do great work, never try to sell me on unneeded work, and give me the straight truth when discussing what needs to be done. The staff has always been super helpful, and as I mentioned, bright and friendly. Horrible treatment for a senior! This dentist owned office does bad business in my experience. They…read moreowe me the most important appt that I have already paid for. Mostly the problems are with the manager (deception & delayed or no communication) though isn't every owner the one ultimately responsible? If Dr Ellen Pacleb cared about following through on the clinical - administrative end I am sure she would of. They market they will give you a Report of Findings type end visit with the manager who claims clinician experience to do so. Is she an unlicensed technician or dentist of some sort that is able to give findings after assement from what the actually licensed dentist used to give? This being up to half hour (in their office) as your last part of services rendered while establishing care. I never got the complete care promised and even had it scheduled at one point before it was apparent there was no charting notes. Apparently those notes is what usually happens there (of course!) and lends the foundations for the manager to be able to do her last appt with me before treatment with dentist or specialized cleaning all within the office. This could be possibly because I spoke up about it as the office manager decided to attempt to deny access of any future possibilities of that appt just yesterday. Dismissive business folks shouldn't underestimate the ability for a patient to see through the nefarious. Not keeping their word on a critical piece of the post assesment is unethical. Is not that precisely why a person would go to the dentist? To understand clearly what is wrong with our teeth/mouth/gums so we can make an informed consent decision on what to do next? With the clinician and/or overall staff? I even have a family member who was treated haphazardly too. Just last year! They made it so hard for her, also a senior, that she gave up and established elsewhere. In my situation there were not even any chart notes after an extensive visit with the Dr where no information was given to me in real time. Part of the overall office culture in my experience is unprofessionalism. Cutting corners in this business leaves the patient high and dry - unless they advocate like I am in this case. The manager (or Dentist not sure) withheld time sensitive information that I needed a very specialized Dr outside of the office and didn't even have the respect to tell me for a year. And they didn't divulge why (with dx etc) I was recommended this yesterday add on type of care in the first place. Extraordinary poorly managed medical dental office. If you want to be treated like a number and wait a long time for communication that may never come this is your place. They sure are capable it seems in taking your money. There is no cutting corners there. Glad I owe not a penny and have verification of what I just stated above to seek fairness when able.
