My wife and I started our journey in early 2023 of selling our house, and moving to a different city to build our retirement house. We began a very thorough research and vetting process to find someone who would be part of our team during this venture. Hiring Scott and Molly was the best decision we made when we bought our home in West Seattle. When we decided to make a move out-of-state (during covid) we had no idea where to start. We knew where we wanted to be, but not how to go about getting there. So we knew hiring the right realtor was going to be an important part of making our move happen. He was praised for being honest, knowledgeable, hard working, going above and beyond for his clients and for being picky on their behalf. Other's also praised him for being a shrewd negotiator. My experience was no different. When looking at a house, Scott helped me look past the fresh coat of paint, staged furniture, and the obvious pros/cons listed on property spec reports to determine if a house was a good purchase. He was skilled at helping me see how a space might (or might not) function if I had kids, threw large parties, or took down a wall. With his background in construction, he was also able to point out foundation/structural concerns, piping issues, walls that leaned, and could spot the subtle differences that indicated whether a remodel was done by an experienced professional or novice homeowner. I ended up purchasing a bank owned property that needed work. Though Scott's job technically ended once I signed the dotted line, he stayed in touch throughout the remodeling process. He helped me put together a repair budget, put me in touch with skilled tradesmen he trusted, and he regularly dropped by to help me troubleshoot issues or to make sure that the tradesmen I selected were doing a good job on my behalf. To set the scene: my wife and I were up against a wall, time-wise. It was Friday, July 10 and we found that we had to be out of our rental or signed onto another year-long lease by August 31. We had been going to open houses for a few months to get a feel for the market, but hadn't seen anything we could commit to. Then our landlord drops the lease bombshell and we proceed to get panicky and stressed: we knew that closing could take a month, so we had to find something in the next 20 days or sooner. One of my friends had bought a house several years before us and could do nothing but rave about the quality of her realtor, Scott Monroe. We had to act fast, so I shot him an email to see if he was free to meet. He responded promptly and we were able to set up a time and place to meet. We met for coffee the very next day and, stressed though we were, simply sitting down for coffee with him and talking for about an hour probably reduced our stress levels by about 50%. He was supremely confident in his skills as a realtor, both in terms of knowing the local market as well as in his background in construction. This latter skill was something my friend had told me about, noting that he could walk into a house they were looking at and immediately point out the things that needed work. Our home buying experience went from stressful to stress-free quite quickly. We got lucky in finding a new construction that had been on the market for several months with no action in an area where we had not thought to look before Scott suggested it to us (Burien, which he suggested when we noted that we had been looking for houses in West Seattle). When we were about done with the walkthrough of the house on the 12th, Scott remarked, "I hate showing houses like these to people first. They don't give me a chance to show off." He was right: the house was (and has been) largely problem-free and not in need of much in the way of repairs from the builder. After some consideration, we put in an offer on the 14th and had a deal by the 15th, where we achieved what can only be described as a miracle in the Seattle area housing market: we bought a new construction without a bidding war and got it for a decent amount under asking. The quickness of the whole process, and the professionalism from Scott helped turn what could have been one of the most difficult and wrenching two months of our lives into an exciting process, where we felt like we were always being looked out for. Here are some of the things that I can tell you that make Scott exemplary (even though we never got to look at a fixer-upper with him): * He is prompt. Like, super-prompt. Just now, I looked back through my emails with him to establish the timeline for our purchase and I remembered that Scott noted in our first exchange that he had some family matters to attend to in the coming week, and that he would be out of town for a period. Even given this, he was able to make time for us and work with our schedules. And when he was out of town and I had questions for him via email, even when I prefaced my email by noting that he was under no obligation to answer me promptly, he did. * He is willing to go out of his way for you. When I was setting up accounts for our utilities, I found that I needed meter readings. I was at work, though, and had no way of getting down to the house. He was more than happy to stop by, check out the meters and report their readings back to me. * He is detail-oriented. As we walked through the house once we had agreed on a price with the builder/seller, he helped us make a punch list for items that would need to be fixed before closing, finding things that we would never have even noticed. Not only did he do that then, but he did this a week ago after we had been in the house for a year and the warranty from our builder was almost up. He spent a good hour walking with me around the house pointing out things that I had missed besides the obvious nail pops and cracks in grouting. * He is engaged. From the moment we met him, we felt completely assured that Scott was always working in our best interest. We were newcomers to the real estate business and had a lot of questions. Scott always had answers for us and helped us understand the entire process. He also has that rare ability to make you feel as though you are his top priority, even when you know that he must be juggling about half a dozen clients at once. More than that, he has made clear that we want to remain engaged with us through our homeownership, a fact I have not forgotten and made use of from time to time. After reading great reviews for Scott and Molly, we first met them in November 2020 when we were debating selling our first home in West Seattle. They were thorough in their analysis and presenting options (sell as-is, invest in upgrades or just hold and wait). We stayed in touch over the next 12 months as we rented it out and watched the market. When we finally decided to sell from across the country, we didn't even think twice about reaching back out to any other agents we had met with. Scott and Molly are a great team with complementary skillsets, are incredibly communicative, and project managed the whole process in remarkable time (3 weeks from empty house to listing; 3 weeks from offer review to closing), including big ticket items like drywall repair, painting, landscaping and staging to the smallest details about light bulbs and outstanding utility bills. I found Scott through yelp/WS Blog. Scott did a fantastic job with us. He was patient, knowledgeable, and best of all honest and trustworthy. He seemed to best understand the market, mortgages, had personal connections to the other realtors, and best of all could give us good estimates of what would need to be done to the homes we saw and how much it would cost us. The value of that cannot be overstated--as first time home buyers, that was truly indispensable. He also provides great insight into practicality and what works with a home and what doesn't, but he isn't forceful. We did a tour with Redfin (this was early 2013) and were disappointed. They were so busy the person we met with said if we saw a place we wanted to tour it might take a day or two to get an agent to be available. But Scott was always surprisingly available, even last minute, which was really important to us in this fast market. Also, with Redfin it's a bit of a roulette with who you get to tour each home. We loved being able to rely on Scott and found his contracting experience indispensable. In this market, or if you simply want a reliable, trustworthy, knowledgable, readily available, and nice agent, or if you are a first time buyer, I strongly recommend Scott. He has your interests in mind. He kept saying that when we toured homes, but honestly he is also smooth and you never really know you can trust someone until they prove it. But he did prove it to us with the way he handled our offer (and suggesting us offering a much lower price) and his negotiations for us, and I'm fully convinced. It's not just words with Scott, he'll prove it to you--he really has your best interests in mind. We felt we were in good hands. I refuse to believe there's anyone better. They've explained his fantastic background and professionalism; there are few business people with higher standards than Scott in both personal service and follow through plus his sincere desire to ensure that the client's experience goes smoothy from shopping around through purchase and all the way to financing plus making the place into a new home. I found Scott just trolling the internet looking for a Windermere agent as they have a good reputation in Seattle. After talking with him about his approach and my need to "just look" for a while, I had a very positive impression of him from the beginning; he seemed honest and straightforward and these are the kinds of people I like to work with. I run the other direction from people in this business who have any sort of "salesy" kind of approach. He never pressured me to look at properies and I don't think we even signed a buyer's agent agreement; basically there was a trust built and I had no desire or reason to recruit anyone else! Over a six year period, we periodically looked at condos and houses from Mukilteo to West Seattle to Woodinville as I was assessing what the prices were and what areas I liked most. Scott was the most patient person; I was completely in the driver's seat and would ask him to send me listings or show me properties only when I was ready to pick up the search again. He understood that I just wasn't ready at certain times and never questioned it but was always there if I wanted some information or to get his opinion of the market climate. In the meantime, I referred him to my parents who found a condo in Mill Creek that they just love. It's perfect for them and they laugh about how Scott gently steered them away from some newer properties which were on busy streets or perhaps poorly constructed as he would point out things that most agents don't notice or understand. He knows the greater Puget Sound area well which is also unusual for an agent so I had confidence going with him to the burbs as well as throughout the city. A few months ago, I stepped up my condo hunt and am now living in my "dream place" in West Seattle. He even referred me to a great designer and contractor to help with the remodelling projects! When it comes to real estate agents, usually there's not much to get excited about, but honestly the "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" really does apply to our experience with Scott. When we decided to look for a different home in West Seattle and determine whether to rent or sell our current property, we thought about the agents we had used in the past and decided we didn't want to work with them again. We looked for reviews of local agents on sites such as Zillow and really were impressed with the comments about Scott. We reached out and received a prompt reply and the fun began. Scott engaged immediately and helped us determine what we were really looking for. He toured multiple houses with us and had eyes for risks that others missed and showed us how good staging and updates could increase the value of a home on the market.
