The optometrist was kind and professional, but the front desk staff are incredibly rude and unhelpful. I was told it would be $90 with insurance for my contact lens prescription. I saved up the $90 and came back, only to be told that because it was over 30 days, it's now $140. That was never properly explained upfront. It feels like they look for excuses to tack on extra fees. Instead of showing any understanding, they were snappy and dismissive. Customer service clearly isn't a priority here. The care from the staff and Dr. Swanson was exceptional, especially the lady in the eyewear department next door who helped me with my situation regarding my glasses and prescription. Unfortunately, after my exam, I wanted to order new glasses and frames. As a first-time patient and new customer, I was patiently waiting for the employee assisting another customer so I could discuss my options. However, my experience took a negative turn when Byron approached me. I explained that I had just finished my eye exam and wanted to look at frames and purchase glasses. Instead of feeling welcomed, I felt as though I was being rushed out of the store. Byron responded with, "Well, we can fill your prescription here, sure. Do you have any other questions? Do you have any insurance questions?" The way the interaction came across left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. I was honestly caught off guard and didn't know how to respond, so I decided to leave without purchasing anything. It's unfortunate because the care I received from Dr. Swanson and the other staff members was excellent. Unfortunately, this interaction left a lasting negative impression and overshadowed what otherwise would have been a very positive experience. Had it not been for this interaction, my rating would have been significantly higher. Dr. Swanson and the rest of the staff provided excellent care and professionalism, which makes this experience even more disappointing. read more

My last visit with Dr. Swanson was a disaster. The glasses he prescribed had a reading lens for the right eye. They were made wrong. I went back and was checked by the other doctor, who discovered and acknowledged the mistake. The glasses were sent back. When I returned to pick them up, I noticed no change in the lenses. When I told the second doctor, Dr. Fields, he became defensive. Dr. Fields then told me I'd get used to them. I went home, tried to get used to them, then returned the glasses to Walmart for a refund. It baffled me as to why Dr. Fields seemed to be obsessed with defending Dr. Swanson. I just wanted glasses I could see through. I'm not sure what's going on between these two doctors, but I will never return to that office. read more

I popped into the Walmart Vision Center in Palm Springs without an appointment and was fully prepared to wait... but Dr. Swanson had me in and out so fast and made the entire visit an absolute joy. He has the BEST sense of humor -- honestly one of the nicest, most down-to-earth doctors I've ever met. He was incredibly thorough, took detailed pictures of my eyes, explained all my options for contacts in a way that actually made sense, and somehow had me cracking up the whole time. I almost didn't want to leave because hanging out with him felt like catching up with an old friend. ("Don't walk old" was our running joke -- still laughing about it.) We even bonded over the desert bunnies at the Red Barn. IYKYK If you're anywhere in the Palm Springs area and need contacts or an eye exam, don't hesitate for a second. This office is the one! Third time using Dr. Swanson over a twenty year period at this location. Office girls/assistants are very efficient, friendly and know their jobs inside and out. For me personally, you can't get better than Dr. Swanson. He went over the condition of my eyes with computer generated photos, made excellent recommendations and ultimately brought me full circle and prescribed exactly what I wanted. He has a great frame selection and I found something I liked a lot rather than settling for something else. Not sure where the negative reviews come from on YELP. Such a friendly environment! When you first walk in you'll be greeted by the girls working in the front of the office and they are complete dolls, so kind! The doctor himself is a very kind man as well, he's professional yet funny. I had been putting off going and getting my eyes re-checked just because it seems complicated and the last time I did it through another office I ended up with a bogus prescription and blah blah. The doctor took a lot of time to make sure that the prescription was correct, I had follow up appointments to make super sure and that was so comforting. I woke up this morning. Went to put my hard contact lenses in and my left lens was cracked. I went over to the office about 10 AM and asked if they could give me some contact lenses and they couldn't because my prescription was over a year old so they saw me right away gave me a new prescription for contact lenses but it was gonna take two weeks for the contacts to come in so the doctor gave me 10 pairs of soft contact lenses to last till the new ones came in and he was so nice and so understanding and you just don't see that with many doctors these days and I would just like to let everyone know if you need an optometrist this guy is awesome awesome read more

While driving from the northern Sierra to Palm Springs for vacation I realized I desperately needed a new prescription before I made the return drive home. I called for an appointment, but they didn't have anything available before I was leaving town, so I rolled the dice and walked in. This was a great experience. The office is super busy, but they really have their process streamlined and everyone was extremely friendly. An hour later, I was out the door with my first ever set of contact lenses plus all the information I needed to order new glasses and contacts, independently. Dr. Swanson is a fantastic optometrist and I have been a customer for about 5 years. He is a precise, caring eye doctor and he does his job with a touch of class. I've gotten my eyes examined at different places over decades but he is the type of doc that you remember. When it comes time to think you need an exam, his face comes to mind. I have had 5 different insurances over the years and this past year (last month) my vision coverage changed and it was a plan he didn't take. I DID NOT CARE. I paid out of pocket price for the eye exam, it was roughly $90 but I didn't hesitate because this is the doctor who truly knows everything he is doing. These are your eyes and you need to trust them in good hands with good judgement. When you visit with him he will be very personable and professional. You can ask questions with out feeling intimidated and he takes the time to give thought out answers. He told me about the aging process of my eyes, what I can do to benefit my ocular situation (Yup, I need reading glasses now, hello 40's) and I left with samples of 2 types of contact lenses! I even asked about being a candidate for Lasik surgery and instead of dismissing the idea, he pointed out the pros and cons and told me how advanced the industry has become. He also said if I wanted to know more, he could direct me to someone he trusts. I will drive from my Los Angeles place to palm springs just to be SEEN by him. He's that good and EYE trust him. I love this Dr. he is such a great Dr. unfortunately I had to find somebody new, his receptionist lacks customer service skills and is extremely rude! Ive never seen her smile or say "hello," she will usually try to deter you from making appointment because she is not willing to accommodate whatsoever!! If you show up to try and be seen as a walk-in she will make sure that you know it's going to be hours before you can be seen. I could have the best insurance and it would still pose a problem, she's really good at making life hard. Finding any service that is purely excellent these days at all is tough. In saying that, I finally found one in Dr. Swanson! He is now one of my true heroes! What a great spirit and fun to work with guy who really knows his business, gave me advise about getting glasses no one in 70 years ever told me, gave a very professional and thorough eye exam for once and didn't try to sell me anything! I just walked out with a new and more accurate perscription then the one I just got this year from somewhere else, and really checked out any possible problems for old eyes that I was worried about! BTW, after I went to my exam I went next door to optical department at Walmart and got excellent customer service on new eyeglasses from Byram who really knew what he was doing too. I felt assured I was getting the best optometric care. I've been there twice (Walmart-Cathedral City) for glasses and once had to have a recheck which was handled with professionalism. The person answering the phone has a less than friendly tone most times I've spoken with her but sometimes a voice doesn't really give a clear picture of a person. The Dr. at Walmart in Yucca Valley left me cold as did the "manager" of the eyeglass dispensary. I know from experience both Dr. Swanson and the dispensary staff are far more professional than Yucca Valley. I went there because it was close but it was a mistake. read more

Dr. Swanson really helped me out and saved me from huge headaches financially and literally. Prior to my first appointment with him in November 2018, weeks earlier I had an eye exam downtown PS at double the cost and bought some very expensive lenses and a pair of frames. The original exam was erroneous and the glasses gave me headaches and strained my eyes. I went back to the original place and they only tested one eye, made a slight adjustment, and everything was still bad. Then I went to Dr. Swanson, and told him my problem, he took extra time and extra steps to be certain that I got the best exam possible and re-wrote a very different Rx for both eyes. I was told 4 weeks to receive my glasses, single vision. When I called today, 2 days before the 4 weeks was here I was told " oh no, its 6 weeks". I was stuck with them because of my insurance. I have been with him since I was 11, just starting middle school and I was embarrassed and scared to wear glasses at that time but he changed the way I saw how others would see me and encouraged me.
