I can't say enough good things about this entire experience. The tour we wanted was sold out, bummer. Sent a message to see what was recommended as far as the availability of a wait list or moving tickets from walking to bus tour would be easy. Scott himself responded, almost immediately with his recommendations. Purchased the walking tour tickets, put ourselves on the wait list for the bus tour and watched emails like a hawk for the few days before our scheduled date. The pizza tour Gods smiled on us and the wait list opened up. I called to get our tickets moved and talked to Scott who handled the whole transfer quickly for me because once the wait list opens up it opens up for everyone on it. He was very helpful in scoring those seats for us and understood the urgency. LOL. That's ALL before we even got to our first meeting place. We met the tour and Scott at Keste in the Financial District. I had read in my research that the tour stops aren't planned ahead and I was skeptical, but you could see him figuring it out as he figured out his group for the day. One of the attendees had taken the tour a year prior, they played a game of guess the spot so he didn't repeat stops for her and the very large group of family that she brought with her on this tour. There was one request for a spot in Brooklyn but he couldn't make it happen due to their hours, not that he wouldn't have moved heaven and earth if he could have. We had a smaller than usual tour group because of timing and a LI RR strike and you could just see that this opened up other options for places to go. After Keste we were able to do two stops in the Bronx, one in East Harlem. There was even an ice cream, water ice store next door to the last pizzeria. So much thought went into this route. Scott was able to take this group to places he hadn't been to in quite some time due to the distance and size of the group. Back to Keste-- what tour guide takes his entire group and takes over the kitchen, helping himself to dough balls and creating pies as he discussed pizza history?? We saw the kitchen and oven in each establishment and each shop was welcoming and friendly. Scott is a wealth of knowledge and enjoyed sharing his story and the story of all of the stops we visited. Imagine a man who has taken the idea of pizza, which most people treat as a thing you fold in half on a street corner, and decided it deserves a Rosetta Stone. That man is Scott. We met him at Keste in the Financial District, and before he said much of anything, I noticed something unusual. Several of the people on our tour had done it before. They were back for more. That seemed as telling as anything else. People do not go on vacation and repeat the same bus ride unless something extraordinary is waiting for them on the other end. Scott does not work from a script. He looks at the group, he looks at the day, and then he consults the secret weather system in his head. Out came our route. Four stops, starting at our meeting point in Manhattan's Financial District and three more scattered like wayward toppings on the city map. Queens. The Bronx. Harlem. Lucky us. Scott told us that combination hardly ever happens. To him it was chance. To the rest of us it was magic. The stops themselves were like chapters in a book. At Keste we learned about the precision of Neapolitan tradition. At Patsy's in Harlem we felt the weight of history, coal ovens burning with the same stubbornness they have for generations. At Mario's on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, an owner with stories longer than the line outside the door talked to us like we were old friends. At Philomena's in Queens, Scott was so at home that he even took a customer's order when the restaurant was swamped by our presence. Every stop had its secrets revealed. Oven temperatures. Dough hydration percentages. Family feuds. Bake times. Flour suppliers. How long a pizza can sit before the soul leaks out of it. Scott called over owners, opened kitchen doors, and invited us to peer inside the fiery mouths of the ovens like pilgrims gazing at sacred relics. Scott himself is difficult to explain without sounding untrustworthy. He is a human encyclopedia with a perfectly tuned sense of joy. He has a Rolodex in his brain that seems to contain the phone number of every pizza maker on earth. I mentioned Hamilton and he talks about Papa's and DeLorenzo's as if we were neighbors. Others mentioned Seattle and Las Vegas, and he told them where to eat, who to meet, and when to go. He casually suggested lowering the water percentage from 66 to 63 for another guest's home pizza dough, as if adjusting the tides. Then he mentioned that after our tour he would be home making 16 doughs for his guides, who were planning to test a new oven. I believed him. He also radiates decency. He runs Slice Out Hunger, a nonprofit that takes the love of pizza and turns it into meals for people who need them most. It is good to know a person can devote their life to melted cheese and still be entirely serious about kindness. This tour filled us with more than pizza. It gave us a sense of belonging. Everyone, from my ten year old to a pizza shop owner who happened to be along for the ride, was entertained and educated and full. This private tour was a Christmas gift for my wife, a native New Yorker and pizzaholic. We traveled from Houston and did Pizza School NYC on a Saturday and Scott's Pizza Tours on the following Monday. Our guide, David, was marvelous. We could tell that he has studied the history of the places he took us to, but he also knew quite a bit about the science of pizza making. Further, he was extremely polite and just generally a fun dude to hang out with. It was very obvious that David did not consider this to be work, even though it's his job. We chose to have the majority of our tour was in Greenwich Village, and it included some rich, historical pizzerias. We had our favorites, but every location was clutch. And we returned to the hotel very full! We are national and international travelers, and we have taken our fair share of tours. I had a great time on Scott's Pizza Tour and thought it was a high-quality experience! I did the Monday tour around Greenwich Village with Laura as our guide, and she was fantastic - funny, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable about pizza. Our group of eight visited three pizzerias: John's of Bleecker St, Joe's Pizza, and Famous Ben's Pizza of SoHo. We got one slice of mozzarella cheese pizza at the first two stops and at Famous Ben's, we got two square slices, making it four slices total. This allowed us to compare different styles and really appreciate what makes each pizza unique. I felt like I learned so much - the history of pizza in NYC, where the ingredients are sourced, the different styles of pizza, what makes each one special, and so much more. I walked away with a whole new appreciation for pizza, plus a really cool pocket pizza journal to document pizza. Laura didn't just talk about pizza - she also had great recommendations for NYC visitors, pointing out places like Dominique Ansel as we walked or sharing other pizza places we could visit or even exciting shows on Broadway. The tour itself was also a great way to explore the city, and we got lucky with a beautiful day for walking around. A small heads up that the tour ended around 1 PM instead of the listed 1:30 PM time in the email. While I thought the tour was extremely well put together, I felt the price was a bit steep at $68.90. I took my 11 year old son to nyc this weekend. It was his first time there and I always love organizing a food tour for first time visits to any city. And since NY is known for their pizza figured that would be ideal. Our tour guide was David who was chatty, entertaining and very knowledgeable about pizza. There were about 15 of us and he did a great job of engaging everyone, paying special attention to my son being the youngest of the group. We visited 3 pizza places. 2 of them we went inside and we were thrilled to sit in air conditioning on this very hot day. All 3 pizza slices were amazing, but the tavern style was my favorite. My second favorite was the neopolitan. I are about 1/2 of each slice which was the perfect amount of food and learned a lot about pizza too. They also let us order a drink at the last stop, but I stuck with water on this hot day...and a sprite for my son. The last stop was next to a gelato store, which also was the prefect ending to a fun tour. The entire tour around the west village was 2.5 hours, which flew by thanks to David and delicious pizza! read more

I took a tour with Paul last night and have been raving to anyone who will listen that this tour is amazing! We were on a work retreat and took a bus tour with 4 stops. At each stop, we got a slice and a glass of wine. Paul was so knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. He was attentive to any needs and dietary restrictions as well. We were given an adorable little "pizza journal" with prompts to record information about the pizza at each stop. We also got to tour multiple kitchens and see the ovens while Paul told us about how the pizza at that restaurant is made. Most importantly, the pizza was all DELICIOUS. Each restaurant had something different to offer, making it exciting and interesting. We played some pizza trivia and had a lot of laughs. I had Lucali's, Juliana's, and Table 87 on my own the nights before and was tired from overbooking my trip yet I went to Scott's pizza tour anyway. It was awesome! Scott had great energy. I went alone and sat with a few diff groups over the spots and everybody was very nice. Scott is happy to answer specific questions and seems to do a good job not letting anyone feel left out. Our first stop was at Keste, where Scott had the respect of the place to go behind the counter and grab some dough to show the group some of the concepts of making pizza in their oven. Scott determines the rest of the spots on the fly so some people can take the tour several times and he'll try and avoid duplicates. Be sure to let him know tho because I didn't say I just went to Table 87 and we ended up going there but I liked that place a lot anyway. I didn't realize how well known Scott was in the pizza community. Sounded like he serves as a judge for pizza contests and hits a lot of new places on his own for fun. TLDR: Scott's Pizza Tours is a great experience and I highly recommend it whether you absolutely love pizza or you just want to see NY differently than you might have the opportunity to see it otherwise. I am also a Pizza Enthusiast and have seen Scott in Pizza: A Love Story, Scott's Pizza Tours, the Really Dough Thrillest series, etc. I have been wanting to go on a Sunday tour with Scott for several years and this is the third time I was booked but the first time it actually got to happen. Yay! We met at Kesté Pizza e Vino in the financial district and took the pizza bus to Queens for Philomena's in Sunnyside, Austin Street Pizza in Forest Hills, and John's Pizzeria in Elmhurst. In the same order we saw a pizza machine, a neighborhood place, a newer place where they are turning out a superior product, and a very old school NY neighborhood place. They are places I would not have known about or gotten to otherwise. It was a fun afternoon. I'm a tourist, but have eaten plenty of NYC pizza, and my friend and her nine year old daughter who were with me live in Queens. We all had a great time. My nine year old friend Scarlett was talking about dough hydration the rest of the day and has started leaving the cheese on her pizza when she eats it! There is something here for everyone. I didn't need to be walked around a neighborhood in Manhattan to sample places all within a few blocks of each other. What I wanted out of this experience was to hear what Scott had to say about dough, sauce, and cheese and eat some great pizzas and mission accomplished! It's so cool that Scott gets to do what he loves and figured out a way to monetize what he's passionate about. I could listen to the biga vs poolish and the Parmigiano Reggiano vs Grana Padano dialogue all day long! If I have one complaint it's that Scott may have dissed St. Louis style pizza and provel cheese! If you ever want a St. Louis pizza tour of only the finest provel let me know! great experience! took Scott's Sunday bus tour, and if you're interested, book fast because it often fills up. i was lucky because i was on the waiting list, and a week before my trip, an opening popped up. Scott leads the tour personally on Sunday's, and this is probably their signature tour. We started at Keste, and they have a whole teaching kitchen where Scott demonstrated some of the basics of pizza making, with dough and oven, with discussing some of the history as well. Despite Scott's fame in the pizza world, he is very down to earth, and happy to spend time with everyone answering all our questions about pizza. you could really appreciate his patience with the group when answering questions from all the children on the tour. We also made a stop at the historical pizzeria Patsy's in East Harlem, where he showed us their coal oven up close. The tour rounded up with stops at Andrew Belluci, and Fini. i had never heard of Fini before, but apparently it's also a super popular pizza spot with really good italian ice. Each stop had a larger room that we all fit in, so we couldn't go to the pizza hotbeds like DiFara or L'Industre...he says that sometimes they do go there on nicer days when it would be more ok to eat on the bus. At each stop we had a slice to taste, and i think most of us were full by the 3rd slice. All delicious. He goes to different places on every tour, so one of these days i'm sure i'll take the same tour again. Would recommend this tour to anyone. read more

Before taking my 14 year old to NYC for the first time, I asked my friends kids, his age, what they thought was the top 5 best things for 14 year olds to do in NYC. All three of them agreed that Scott's Pizza Tour was the best thing they did in NYC. So I booked the Sunday tour with Scott and off we went. We bounced all over the greater NYC area in a big yellow school bus and hit several places for pizza. Each one of his stops was meticulously planned out to show the variations in pizza styles, both in how they are cooked and ingredients. I never knew there were so many things to know about pizza. And I never thought I could eat so much pizza in one afternoon and not be in a food coma! I learned a lot on this trip! ;) Scott is an absolute guru when it comes to pizza. If you look up pizza nerd in the dictionary, there will be a photo of Scott next to the definition. I don't think there is anything he doesn't know about pizza. And he presents it to you in layman's terms and makes it all interesting. In closing, I have been to NYC before and done all the touristy things. This was by far, the most fun I have ever had in NYC. And after dragging my 14 year old all over NYC for a week, I asked him what his favorite part of the trip was...he said, "Scott's Pizza Tour." So there you have it folks...out of the mouths of babes. Heard about Scott's Pizza Tours when he was on the Sporkful podcast. His knowledge and excitement on that episode is why my wife and I booked a tour. Our guide was Laura and man, that lady knows her stuff when it comes to pizza and pizzerias all around the city. Scott even stopped by just to meet me (okay, he said hi to the whole group but whatever). Laura taught us things like why some crusts are more crunchy and why some pizzas are greasier than others. Took the Brooklyn pizza tour and had Krista as my tour guide. Krista was incredibly knowledgeable about pizza and Brooklyn, patient, bubbly, and kind. She made me feel welcome, memorizing everyone's names(there were 12 of us) and kept the atmosphere light throughout the entirety of the tour. We did the Brooklyn pizza tour on a lovey Saturday in May. Out your guide was Krista. She was awesome. So much knowledge and so much enthusiasm about pizza you couldn't help but have fun. Who doesn't like a good host, good show? Scott is one of the best host, presenter and pizza guru. I had heard a lot about the pizza tours and wanted to get one this summer and Covid happened! I am glad they offered virtual classes and tours!! I took two of their virtual classes, dough making and the bake class. The precision and perfection Scott guides the attendee's is awesome! I need to take more classes to even be close to perfection, but we ended up making delicious pizza's! On another note, they are very accommodating and helped me move around the date and time for the virtual class multiple times. He even knew our old favorite pizzeria in Queens from childhood (55+ years ago and still around) and gave a quick critique of it. We visited 3 different pizzerias, trying different styles and cooking methods. We were given Pizza Logs to make notes about or experiences at each place. Dan even modified the tour to visit Famous Ben's, since my wife requested a Sicilian slice. We even had Palermo pizza, which was completely new to me. What a ton of fun this was. Purchased the Sunday bus tour for the partner's birthday in September. Booked for this last Sunday, December 1st. The Sunday bus tours book pretty fast. First of all, Scott is great. It's such a joy seeing someone so passionate and knowledgeable about something go into it with folks eager to learn. The great thing about this Sunday tour is Scott changes it up; the locations are never the same. Great way to get you coming back for more pizza. Without diving into too much detail: you meet; you eat pizza, you discuss and learn, you take bus to next place-repeat three more times. Timing is perfect, amount of information to take in is perfect, overall experience is fun. You also tend to meet a few cool people on the trip as well, because obviously only cool people do pizza tours. I ended up loving the last place we went to best. All in all the entire thing was great; and I'd love to do it again. Lol at me thinking I'd be tired of pizza by the end of it; I craved pizza the next day. When reading the reviews for this tour we were really looking forward to it. Only one pizzeria was tour worthy. They made the pizza in front of us and the pizza was exceptional. It was downhill after that. The other two places just popped the pre-baked slices in the oven and reheated them and brought them to the table. The one menu said we were eating a $3.00 slice. The entire tour consisted of a total of three slices and you pay for your own drinks. I really think we could have done a better tour on our own following YouTube suggestions. From the reviews I feel we did not have the same experience as most of the others. They do have different tours so maybe we just got the dud. read more

He also had a great relationship with all the pizzerias he took us to where they allowed us to watch them prep/cook and look into their different oven style! And the Pizza... was SO good. 4 different styles in 3 different boroughs - each one was delicious in it's own way. I was full by the end, but not stuffed since it was nicely spaced out over 4 hours. Fantastic tours for pizza lovers. We did the pizza bus tour, which was a load of fun. I'd done a pizza walk tour several years ago, and that was just as good plus you got some exercise. Easily one of the best experiences of my life, at least about food that is! Scott was amazing, warm, friendly, and exceptionally knowledgeable. In fact, he's the ONLY person I've ever spoken to who knew more about pizza than I do! His passion for pizza (nearly!) eclipsed my own. (I'm certain he'd claim superior pizza passion!) If I HAD to pick one bad thing, I'd say that we were sent to the wrong starting location. But that error had nothing to do Scott. (It was another website where we got our tickets.) Scott was very generous and moved swiftly to ensure we got to enjoy the tour (which we did THOROUGHLY!) and corrected the issue to ensure that it didn't happen to anyone else. We will be back to enjoy another tour this fall. You should too! read more
