I had Lucali's, Juliana's, and Table 87 on my own the nights before and was tired from overbooking my trip yet I went to Scott's pizza tour anyway. It was awesome! Scott had great energy. I went alone and sat with a few diff groups over the spots and everybody was very nice. Scott is happy to answer specific questions and seems to do a good job not letting anyone feel left out. Our first stop was at Keste, where Scott had the respect of the place to go behind the counter and grab some dough to show the group some of the concepts of making pizza in their oven. Scott determines the rest of the spots on the fly so some people can take the tour several times and he'll try and avoid duplicates. Be sure to let him know tho because I didn't say I just went to Table 87 and we ended up going there but I liked that place a lot anyway. I didn't realize how well known Scott was in the pizza community. Sounded like he serves as a judge for pizza contests and hits a lot of new places on his own for fun. If I'm ever in nyc for a week again I'll try and come again!

TLDR: Scott's Pizza Tours is a great experience and I highly recommend it whether you absolutely love pizza or you just want to see NY differently than you might have the opportunity to see it otherwise. I am also a Pizza Enthusiast and have seen Scott in Pizza: A Love Story, Scott's Pizza Tours, the Really Dough Thrillest series, etc. I have been wanting to go on a Sunday tour with Scott for several years and this is the third time I was booked but the first time it actually got to happen. Yay! We met at Kesté Pizza e Vino in the financial district and took the pizza bus to Queens for Philomena's in Sunnyside, Austin Street Pizza in Forest Hills, and John's Pizzeria in Elmhurst. In the same order we saw a pizza machine, a neighborhood place, a newer place where they are turning out a superior product, and a very old school NY neighborhood place. They are places I would not have known about or gotten to otherwise. It was a fun afternoon. I'm a tourist, but have eaten plenty of NYC pizza, and my friend and her nine year old daughter who were with me live in Queens. We all had a great time. My nine year old friend Scarlett was talking about dough hydration the rest of the day and has started leaving the cheese on her pizza when she eats it! There is something here for everyone. I didn't need to be walked around a neighborhood in Manhattan to sample places all within a few blocks of each other. What I wanted out of this experience was to hear what Scott had to say about dough, sauce, and cheese and eat some great pizzas and mission accomplished! It's so cool that Scott gets to do what he loves and figured out a way to monetize what he's passionate about. I could listen to the biga vs poolish and the Parmigiano Reggiano vs Grana Padano dialogue all day long! If I have one complaint it's that Scott may have dissed St. Louis style pizza and provel cheese! If you ever want a St. Louis pizza tour of only the finest provel let me know! I'd absolutely take another tour next time I'm in New York!

Booked a private bus tour to celebrate a milestone birthday and Scott and his team created the BEST experience ever! I'm based in LA and was a bit worried about how all the coordination would work out, but Scott and team were super communicative in the weeks leading up to the tour, promptly and thoroughly answering all my questions and coming up with a logistical plan to accommodate our needs. The tour itself exceeded my expectations. The bus was sleek and clean. We visited 4 pizza places across Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn -- all different and all delicious in their own right. Scott is an incredibly charismatic and knowledgeable guide and our group of 17 had a blast learning about the different styles of pizza. I love that Scott emphasizes understanding the different nuances of pizza that make each pie unique. We all left with a deeper appreciation for the history and craft of pizza making. Thank you Scott and team for an excellent, 5 star experience!

With Scott and mother/daughter owner of John's Pizzeria in Elmhurst, Queens.

Outstanding tour. I have been on four bus tours with Scott (including New Haven) and they only get better every time I take them. The tours are very educational, entertaining and a lot of fun. Plus you get to taste great pizza from all over the city. I highly appreciated yesterday when I asked Scott to go to an old school vintage neighborhood pizza joint and he changed his original plan to go there. A mensch and a class act who just wants people to enjoy themselves.

    Excellent Neopolitan pizza.

My daughter and I just got back from the Sunday bus tour with Scott. She purchased this trip for me as a gift. It was phenomenal. He is a pizza savant. He is incredibly knowledgeable about all things pizza. Not just where to go to get good pizza, but about dough, sauce, cheese, ovens, temps, you name it, this guy can talk about it. We hit four pizzerias, I won't name them to spoil it, although it's mostly always different. The bus was great and we got to each place quickly. Scott sat and talked with most people who had tons of questions and some "philosophical" ones as well. If you get the chance to do this tour with Scott, I can't say enough about it. You will not be disappointed, and I will guarantee you will learn something. I would not hesitate to do it again. Thanks, Scott, for a great day.

WOW my group had the best time with Scott's Pizza Tours. We did the Deluxe Bus Tour with a group of ~16 for a client outing. Our guide - Paul - was knowledgeable, charismatic, and made the experience unforgettable. Great food and unique drink pairings on the 4 stops, elite party bus (we did the BYOB option too). 10/10 would recommend and do again for a business or personal group outing.

Scott's Pizza Tours is the place for pizza tours in NY! This was my second time doing it, and had a wonderful time in the East Village with our Tour Guide, Asad. He did a great job making us feel welcome and cover every detail you could think of related to pizza. The pizzas at each stop were great representations of the style of pizza being showcased, and we learned a lot about the subtleties that make each different.

Didn't know what to expect, just knew we liked pizza and wanted a new experience in NYC. This tour did not disappoint. We had 3 stops, each much different than the others. Loved skipping the lines that were outside every restaurant. Our guide,David, was quite versed in all things pizza-impressive and he was funny too! Even my 16 year old daughter had fun. Definitely recommend!

    What regions do you serve?

We host tours in Manhattan & Brooklyn.

Is there availability Friday? There are 4 of us and how much walking is involved?

Not to wax poetic on YELP but Famous Fat Dave's Food Tours penetrates deeply. Food touches the soul, culture touches the soul, history touches the soul, and so experiencing all of that with Dave touched my kids and my soul. The 'food tour' had that intangible "what makes something special" in spades. I am a native New Yorker, transplanted to the West Coast 20 years ago. I came to NYC, with my 2 kids and one of their friends after my dad passed (3 weeks ago) to experience it in a way that we haven't before. As a native, I'd never thought I would consider myself a tourist, but keeping an open mind and wishing for a special experience for the (teenage!) kids, I signed up. Dave literally transformed our visit. Dave's passion for food reflects his passion for life. He's academic, Bohemian, a foodie, a great (vintage cab) driver, a local, and at your service with a smile. Give Dave the type of food you want (or don't want!), the area you want to visit (or don't want!), the length of time and experience you want (or don't want!) and he will accommodate. Dave is responsive by text, phone, or email. He's relaxed, professional, caring, thoughtful, organized, and super well connected with the locals. Dave will show you as diverse a food experience as you want. We went to 9 places throughout the City and Brooklyn, in about 5 hrs. That was a lot, but it flowed so well! There's a lot of eating, so he paces you - trust him - he's done this many times (with some of the most celebrated chefs in the world as well - check out his website.) We broke up the tour for some digesting and a change of pace by visiting Coney Island and chillaxing (teen lingo) at the Boardwalk for about 45 or so minutes. Perfect time to recharge and have some more fun with the locals. Eating the best pizza, Italian sandwiches, Asian soups, and desserts in NY, at the cozy, hole in the wall, locally loved favorites (with all the personalities that come with that!), we were more than satisfied at the end!! Dave's Food Tours is memorable in every way. Some things just have to be experienced. This is one of them. On behalf of my fam, and especially my Dad... thank you Dave. PS. Ask Dave what's splattered and stuck on his microwave's wall ... and what's in his freezer!! Bound to get a good story and smile!

West Village Food Tour - June 16, 2023 A wonderful, 3-hour…read moretour. Informative and delicious! First of all, Josh in the office was more than helpful. I admit I made his job more difficult than necessary due to the multiple changes I needed to make. Josh was courteous and helpful and, in no way, did he give me impression of being bothered. Andrea was the tour guide for myself and two friends. Our tour group was small which I felt was a stroke of luck. Andrea sent an email to each of us the day before our tour which reminded us of the tour, our meeting spot and time. She also noted that the tour would begin promptly at the scheduled time. She also asked if we had any dietary restrictions, food allergies or questions. I replied to her email asking for suggestions for places to visit after our tour had concluded. She responded promptly and gave us some helpful suggestions. Andrea cheerfully met us at the predetermined time. After introductions, Andrea gave us a brief overview of what we were to see, answered our questions and confirmed that there were no food allergies she needed to be aware of. We stopped at Faicco's Italian Specialties where we sampled soppressata and rice balls, a.k.a. Arancini in front of Faicco's. Both were excellent. As we snacked, Andrea gave us a history of the place. Our next stop was Bleeker Street Pizza. Andrea gave us a brief history before going in. We ate slices of of Nona Maria pizza. Then the previous owner, Greg Greenwood, joined us. He gave us a detailed history of the restaurant, which his brother, Captain Douglas Greenwood, opened in 2004. Captain Greenwood tragically passed away from 9/11 illness and ownership passed to Greg, who recently sold the pizzeria, although he still works there on Fridays. The pizza was fantastic! I will definitely visit again. As we walked through the West Village, Andrea gave us more history of the neighborhood, which included a home that was only 9 feet wide and a former speakeasy!! Our third stop was Hudson Bagels. where we shared two delicious, traditional New York bagels with cream cheese. Our fourth stop was Galanga, a Thai restaurant. We each had a corn fritter and Chicken Satay. I loved the fritters but thought the chicken was a bit plain. The fifth restaurant was Mamoun's Falafel. My boring palate did not enjoy this treat, but the others did. Lastly we had a cupcake at Molly's Cupcakes, opened by a former school teacher and schoolhouse themed. We each ordered different cupcakes, all of which were yummy. We ended the tour at our original meeting place. Andrea was wonderful, personable and informative. I inquired about other tours Andrea gave so that I can book another tour with Andrea.

This bakery has been in this location since 1910. Yonah is fifth generation. We had a potato knish to die for and you can see why this bakery is still in business. Unfortunately, our guide Adam, as he went over the history of the Lower East Side, said that very soon this little knish shop may be pushed out due to the high rents and development that is taking over this neighborhood. We moved on to Katz deli- skipping the line- because we were on the tour :) and had pastrami. Pastrami is not really my thing, but even I can taste that the Katz Pastrami melts in your mouth. We also had rugula from Russ and Daughter's. The rugula was delicious. My sister said she could have eaten 10 more pieces. As we walked, Adam filed us in on the history of the area. Along the way, we stopped at Economy candy. This place has every old fashioned candy you could ever want as well as modern favorites. It is candy floor to ceiling and very fun. We then went to Essex market. I could have spent a whole day there. It has both prepared foods and many market stalls for fresh fruits and veggies, dairy meats, sweets, really everything you could want. If I lived in NYC, I would shop there every week. We stopped at Arinchini Brothers for orrincici (rice balls) which were fabulous. I wish I could have taken some home but they ship so I'll get them that way. We also stopped by Essex Olive and Spice where I bought two bottles of fig balsamic vinegar, which may be the best balsamic I have ever tasted and I have been to Italy, France and Croatia. The olive oil there was also special. I went back to Essex market after the tour and spent more time there. So much to eat and buy and so little time. Okay so moving on we stopped at North Dumpling to buy some of the best dumplings in the city. The pork dumplings were so flavorful. I was pretty stuffed by now but we moved on to the Pickle Guys where I tasted pickeled pineapple which I would have purchased if I had not had to put it in my luggage. Sounds gross, but trust me. It was awesome. We then stopped at Kossar's Bialys for what I had been waiting for and they did not disappoint. We had an everything bagel and a bialy and they were... well, NY perfect. You may think you have had a bagel, but if you haven't had a NYC bagel, you haven't tasted bagels. We moved on to the Doghnut Plant where they have a tres Leche donut, which they were out of, and a wonderful blueberry cake donut that was a nice ending to a wonderful food and culture tour. I highly recommend it.
