Vito's Slices and Ices - NY-style Mushrooom Pizza
    Omar S.

My wife and I recently cruised to Bermuda out of the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. Since the trip from San Diego takes all day, and because I'm anti-redeye, we arrived in town at about 7pm the night before our ship sailed and took advantage of a decent rate at a hotel in Midtown West. Once we'd checked in, we decided to grab a light dinner - specifically, pizza - somewhere close by. Of course, we could have Uber'd to one of the trendy pizza spots in town, or to one of the iconic, long-established places, but I know from experience that no matter where you buy your slice - no matter how much you pay for it or how long you stand, lined up, waiting to order - two things are true: first, the pizza you end up with might not be as great as it was the day before; and second, when you've had about three bites, what you're eating is seldom special... it might taste good, but it's just pizza. NB If you disagree, you can fight me here, or spend your time and money to find out that I'm right. Let me know. So, since we were unwilling to make a pilgrimage and a sacrifice for what is, essentially, a tomato and cheese sandwich with maybe some protein added, we walked instead to Vito's Slices and Ices, a few blocks from our hotel. I'd found the place on TripAdvisor, the most reliable site I know for crowdsourced, food-related information and opinion. The pictured slices looked right, and the addition of house-made Italian ice to the menu sealed the deal for me. Visiting Vito's, my friends, was the right decision, because the pizza was perfect. Their hand-stretched dough, made with Caputo flour and slightly fermented, was airy, moderately crisp, and had the complex flavor and characteristic chew of the best New York-style pizzas. Their fresh crushed tomato sauce balanced sweetness and acidity, and a bit of basil added a wonderful herbal aroma. And Vito's uses Grande-brand mozzarella, whose dairy-rich, buttery flavor and ideal melt make it the cheese of choice for New York's pizzerias. Grande is less commonly used outside the region, and it's all but impossible to source if you're a home pizzaiolo like me - though, happily, since last year, I've been able to buy it at La Mesa's MammaMia Deli Market. Vito's Italian ice was tasty, too, but I prefer Philadelphia's water ice for its smoother texture and more intense flavor. But man, that slice... Considering the high-quality ingredients and masterful execution used to make my pizza, Vito's could have - hell... SHOULD have - charged me two or three times the $5 and change I paid for my slice. But they delivered great value with genial, helpful service (thanks, Lucas) and, for kicks, this all happened in a corner shop with a warm, classically "neighborhood" feeling. So now I'm thinking that if I lived in Manhattan, I might check my "it's just pizza" comment and become a Vito's regular, spending Uber money and even waiting in line for a slice. I'd be happy to be wrong.

Vito's Slices and Ices is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, everything just moves smoothly -- ordering is incredibly fast and efficient, even when there's a line. You're in and out in no time, which is perfect when you're craving a quick bite without sacrificing quality. The food itself is fantastic, especially for the price. The slices are generous, fresh, and packed with flavor -- easily some of the best value for money around. And the ices? The perfect refreshing treat to top it all off. What really makes Vito's stand out, though, is the staff. Everyone is welcoming, friendly, and genuinely seems happy to be there. They create such a positive, neighborhood vibe that keeps you coming back. If you're looking for great food, quick service, and a warm atmosphere, Vito's Slices and Ices delivers every time!

This place is so good!! The perfect dinner that was close by and I loved it! The garlic knots are the best knots I've ever had! Customer service is great, the place is small but cozy! Definitely must check out!

Whole cheese & pepperoni. The crust is perfection.

The good stuff! Thin, crisp crust topped with great sauce, the best mozarella cheese, the and best cup pepperoni. I think I detected a hint of pecorino romano cheese. Cooked to perfection. Fast, friendly service with food service piping hot. There is a small counter and some chairs. I think this is mostly a take-out and delivery spot. You'll smell the enticing quality just walking by.

Ok so we were doing a NYC Pizza slice tour day and started with Vito's. I'm not sure if this was the best idea. Usually you want to save the best for last but after Vito's, we found ourselves comparing everything else to it and this spot might quite possibly be the best slice in the city. You MUST get their Margherita slice and Grandma style. Both are packed with flavor, slightly different in a good way and super super fresh.

What an old school pizza place ! I love pizza so I had to stop here and give it a try. They sell it by the slice as you see in the pictures. They have a nice assortment of different pizza already made, and you can order four pizzas as well. I opted for a slice of pepperoni and a slice of plain with extra cheese. I loved it so much. I had to order another slice with extra cheese and a Pepsi. The counter staff was very helpful and very friendly and welcoming and let me say this place gets jampacked and I only have a few seats at the window probably around 10 give or take and you're standing elbow to elbow so that speaks volumes about this pizza shop they're putting out some good slices The prices are really good. The pizza is off the wall highly recommend. The inside is nothing fancy like I said there's a couple two counters where the windows are so you can enjoy a couple slices of pizza while you stare out the window people watching . I look forward to stopping back here before leaving New York City. Thank you for some good slices of pizza.

We arrived to our West side hotel very hungry from just flying in. Our hotel rep suggested a place in Times Square, but I knew better. We walked a few streets up and an avenue over and we were in HEAVEN! Vito's Slices and Ices did not disappoint. We had a regular slice of sausage and onion and a grandma slice. OMG, so good! And that's not just because we were hungry. The sauce on the Grandma was so zesty. The regular slice tasted just like a NY slice of pizza should taste - SO GOOD! I would have loved to have enjoyed one of those delicious looking garlic knots but we needed to save room for our next feeding a few hours later. It was too cold to order an ice, but we'll definitely come back to enjoy one of the fun flavors they offer. Lots of people dining in on this day and we squeezed ourselves into the counter seating. We are totally going back to Vito's and we are DEFINITELY recommending Vito's to friends!

Really good gluten free pizza! Cozy mom and pop pizza spot. Would come again. The gluten free pizza is sicilian style so it's thick crust and spongy in a good way. Great service and limited booth seating.

After a very disappointing NY pizza experience at L'industrie Pizzeria, my bar for NY pizza was set LOW. We had just finished The Edge Experience, and were now looking for a place to get a quick bite before an earlier dinner later that evening. I really wanted a redeeming NY slice to end our family trip to NYC on a high note. Initially, I had thought of Joe's, but I HATED the thought of dealing with the line of tourists and lack of seating. We ended up visiting Vito's Slices and Ices nearby Hudson Yards. This was possibly the best decision we made. There were lots of slice options, and I thought the menu was very reasonably priced. I shared the margherita and pepperoni slices with my boyfriend, and my parents shared the upside-side Sicilian slice and grandma's pie slice. The pizza here was a million times better than L'industrie! The tomato sauce, while a little messy, was fresh and sweet - just the way I like it on my pizza! The dough could have used a bit more integrity, but the crust was very memorable for me. Chewy with a nice crispy exterior. I would 1000% return to Vito's. This was one of the best things I had on our trip.

Mushroom slice. A bit over $5. Very tasty
    Glenn C.

I stopped in this 20+ year old slice shop a while back for a slice. It was a bit warm inside, and it was pretty crowded. I went with a mushroom slice, which was a bit over $5, which sounds expensive, but as the mushrooms weren't the typical bad canned ones you find in most pizza spots, I didn't mind the stipend. It took a little while, and the slice was piping hot. There was a pretty good crisp to it, and there was a good amount of cheese. The sauce was excellent, with a touch of sweetness but not too much. I guess the only complaint I could make was that it was a tad greasy, but hey, not bad at all. Would recommend it when you're in the area, and I would go back for a grandma/margherita and to try their Italian Ices next time I am in the neighborhood.

Just wow. Came here to get a craving fixed and it did beyond that. Pepperoni hit the right spot. You must try the Grandma!! Service was great. Its a small spot has a few bar tops available

I got this spot on Grubhub and it wasn't bad! Unfortunately, the app didn't update us on the delivery so it was left out for a while and got a bit cold. But, the portions were good, solid pizza, and good price!

The pasta was al dente perfection and most importantly there were generous sauce portions. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and personable. I dined with a friend and we ordered 3 pastas instead of an appetizer (fantastic choice). We tried the following dishes: *Garganelli Mushroom Ragu and Ricotta Salata. This was by far our favorite dish. It was bursting with flavor, had tons of sauce and cheese and was perfectly cooked. If you enjoy mushroom you MUST order this!! *Tagliatelle Bolognese Bianco (Chicken, Veal, Pork) and Parmigiano. Which was so delicious and has plenty of meat and sauce. The tagliatelle was amazing and tasted to fresh. *Bucatini with Pancetta, Tomato, Chilies and Pecorino. We thought this was good but our least favorite dish of the 3. Honorable mention to the spaghetti that my friend had at her last visit. She said it was fresh and delicious but almost too rich which she mostly owned to it being a white sauce.

We started with the housemade focaccia and Wagyu carpaccio--both were outstanding, with the perfect balance of crispy, flavorful, and fresh elements. My partner and I shared the pasta, hangar steak, and potatoes, which turned out to be the ideal amount for two. We finished with the famous olive oil cake, which we loved for its subtly sweet, moist and tender bite. Served with lightly whipped cream and raisins, the combination was surprisingly delicious. We were also touched by the complimentary anniversary scoop of ice cream. The interior seating is a bit snug, but the decor is beautiful--elegant yet homey. The service was good as well. Overall, we highly recommend L'Artusi for a special night out!
