So glad I discovered Scotty Bons!! Was craving for oxtail and saw the high ratings here. We stopped by and got the oxtail bowl, jerk chicken bowl, and beef patty. The oxtail bowl was packed with rice and peas, and a variety of veggies (coleslaw, chickpeas etc). Loved the variety! I got sauce on the side but honestly the bowl was already packed with so much flavour that sauce wasn't necessary. The beef patty was so flaky and just the right amount of saucy. Can't wait to come back for more bowls and patties!!

Bowl - peas an rice, corn, cheese, sweet plantain, jerk chicken

A nice little restaurant in Scarborough that I hadn't heard of before, but I'm so glad my family suggested we check it out. From the moment we walked in, everything on the menu looked amazing, and I had a tough time deciding what to get! I eventually went with a bowl that included peas and rice, corn, cheese, sweet plantain's and jerk chicken. The rice and peas were great, though in hindsight, I could have skipped the corn and cheese--it was my first time, so I just picked what I thought looked good. Now, let me tell you... the jerk chicken was incredible! It was the best I've ever had--perfectly seasoned, tender, and full of flavor. It truly made the entire meal, and next time, I'm definitely going straight for the jerk chicken sandwich. The portions were generous, and I even had enough for leftovers. I thought the price was fair for what I got. The service was simple--you tell them what you want, they prepare it, and you check out--but they were generous with the portions, which I appreciated. I will absolutely be coming back for that jerk chicken!

The jerk chicken bowl seems to be the most popular one $18.53 a bit pricey but the service was so quick, and I was shocked at the amount of food they give easily two or three people can share one bowl. I got the jerk chicken bowl with all the toppings and sauces, I love that they load it up this place doesn't cheap out on portions unlike other places. The jerk chicken was so tender, probably one of the best jerk chicken I ever had, and the coleslaw was phenomenal. The Channa was amazing with the scotch bonnet hour sauce I only got a little bit because that is insanely hot. The ambiance was very clean, staff practiced good hygiene practices greeted us with a smile, we got creamy bbq, cilantro lime sauce and habenero perfect combination. The bowl is filled with so many flavours this is place is a must try.

Wow really flavourful food! I really enjoyed the flavours in the dishes we had. This is a smaller place with just a couple of benches for eating in but there is a larger picnic table outside. We had goat curry and jerk chicken dishes. Both were good but I think the jerk chicken was a bit better. You can go to the ordering station and pick what you want to order (meat, bowl, roti or sandwiches) and then customize by which sauces and veggies you'd like to add. Service is quick and there were people coming in consistently. I'd definitely come back when I'm in the area. Also I loved the hot sauce - it packs a kick!

Scotty Bons is a regular takeout spot when I find myself in this part of Scarborough. It is hard to beat the value of their comfort food. Be warned: if you are looking for a traditional jerk or West Indian curry, this may not be did you. Their flavors are enjoyable, but somewhat americanized. I always get a bowl when I come here because they the volume of food is enough for 2 meals. The jerk chicken is quite spicy. 4.5/5 overall, but I give them the 5 because I'm a sucker for value.

Came here on a Thursday evening. This place is small and has limited seating. It's more of a takeout place. Just one row of seats near the side, and maybe at the front. It wasn't packed so we were able to get seats easily. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice for a total of 15.95, including tax. The amount of rice and sides they give you is enough for two people to share, so my husband and I split one. You get three pieces of chicken that are a good size. Now on to the taste of the food - it was good and very flavourful. It was spicier than I expected but still good. It's a pretty good value - reasonable price for the amount of food that you get.

Quick service takeout. It was super flavourful in so many ways and great presentation even in a takeout. Love the succatash. So many elements built into the shrimp bowl. My only wish is there was maybe 8 shrimp over 6 which was kinda few. Overall taste is excellent. The sauce and spices made everything super vibrant.

We have been here multiple times and it never disappoints. Portions are good and our favourite are bbq bowl with out potatoes and coco bun sandwich. Jerk chicken is also good but it tends to have after taste. Sauces have great flavours. Highly recommend it. Instagram Tneats

It was ok. We got the fish sandwich 3/5, bbq chicken roti and two jerk dinners. Rice and peas is a bit wet and "Pelau style" and not traditional Jamaican rice and peas. Jerk Chicken is marinated Breast and NOT smoked as is traditional. decent options at a fast serve Caribbean joint but won't miss much here.

We decided to try this location because we wanted some jerk chicken and saw the good reviews. We got the jerk chicken bowl - comes in a round, tin. The jerk chicken was moist and came in a decent amount. I felt there was some jerk flavor but the spice may have overpowered it just a bit. Cajun fish bowl was delicious. Reminds me of beer battered fish. Nice crispy and crunchy exterior and soft fish inside. The bowls come with all sorts of toppings that is up to you. We got rice and beans and Scotty rice as half and half. We also got the pineapple corn mix which adds a nice freshness and tang. Tomatoes were also a nice bright fresh note. The hot sauce is good and spicy! Coleslaw is a must have - creamy, crunchy, fresh veges with some sweetness. Price: It's about 12$ per bowl which is not bad given the amount of food and the flavor. Will definitely come back to try more items.

My word! This place is now my 'go to' when I get my craving for jerk chicken! Tiny, unassuming place in an obscure strip mall in Scarborough. Just tried it last week - jerk chicken sandwich (I ordered it spicy) and got a patty. Went back here a second time and ordered the bowl. Was not disappointed!

Holy yum Batman! Make sure you do some arm exercises before you go here bc you'll need the strength to carry their portion sizes! Ordered the jerk chicken with rice, chana, and loaded up with toppings (I chose tomatoes, corn, hot sauce, but they also have slaw, cheese, pimento etc ). $12....I was thinking it was a bit pricey but I was hungry. Then I saw the staff person dole out the rice...heaping spoons of rice, pieces and pieces of perfectly cooked mouth watering jerk chicken. It's the next day and I still have tons of leftovers ..and we all know it tastes even better the next day! In the end the $12 is extremely cheap for the amount of delicious food you get! The flavours are pretty authentic, nothing overpowers the taste, it just beautifully melds into a bomb flavour infusion. I also decided to order the Cajun fish sandwich ($6.75). Crispy fish, with slaw to add the crunch and coolness to the hot sauce. Grilled bread makes it the perfect bite. Will definitely return! Just an FYI - this is a small (narrow) location located in a very small strip plaza, there is parking available.

Half & half jerk chicken/ curry goat

Lots of good reviews at this local, and one downtown. So was intrigued, looking for some Caribbean comfort food. Picked up a bowl with half and half rice and meat. Half curried rice, and rice and peas. And, half curried goat and half jerk chicken (thigh meat). To begin, disclaimer: Homemade curried goat is serious comfort food for my family. This rendition at Scotty Bons was not too bad. This curried goat appears to be pressure cooked, so the meat texture becomes different. It feels a bit over soft and mashed up. Not anything close to cooking it in a pot low and slow where it remains tender, unbroken down and meaty. And as for the curry taste, all the curry encountered in the meal (in the curry channa, mostly aloo/potato and very little channa), the rice and the goat, the curry tastes like "it was sprinkled on top" as we say. Meaning the love and time needed to caramelize and toast up the curry in oil sauteed alonside the garlic and onions, was not done here. It makes a huge difference, if you know, you will see such difference. But still, for take out, the food is very tasty, overall. The jerk though was really nicely succulent. Boneless jerk thigh meat with jerk that has that authentic, freshly made spice mix that you could taste was not out of a bottle. The spicy, hot sauce you can select after as a dressing -- was aahmaazing! Creamy, tasted of scotch bonnet -- not your typical vinegary based hot sauce ((a huge personal pet peeve, I hate --like st Louis vinegary hot sauce, Grrr)), but with a respectable kick of heat! And I also picked up a on-the-road snack, their patty. Omg holiness of Holi, what a wonderful bite! It was mild, not a spicy patty. And the delightful surprised was it's not your typical, yellow heavy or dense shell. This patty's shell is creamy in colour, has an extremely tender and massively flaky (do not wear black!). Nicely seasoned filling. Yum. Will be back for the rice and peas, and jerk next time, for sure!

All of the oxtail shredded meat, the cheese, the slaw, and the patty all perfectly come together into a very hearty meal. For its price, it is very filling and extremely tasty. The other thing we had was the Large Jerk Chicken meal. The Jerk Chicken was how I personally would want it. Not too hot, not too salty, not burnt, and spiced just right. The rice & beans proportion to the protein was just a little more than what I would prefer, but it is not a big issue. There was also a piece of bread that we had along with the meal which I enjoyed having. It was tasy and soft bread that perfectly acts to refresh the palate so we can go for another bite out of the Jerk Chicken or the Oxtail patty. What was a little letdown was that the place was a little small and not really primarily setup to accommodate a lot of indoor dining. There was no washroom or at least a place to wash hands. Service was also just alright. It was not bad, but just not among the best service standards that I know. You would need to come in with a lot of patience in waiting to order and waiting for the food to be ready to serve. Between taking orders, the person over the counter would also be occasionally be on the phone answering call inquiries.

We had the jerk chicken with rice and peas, snapper with brown stew veggies and rice, stuffed oxtail patty...EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT! Jerk chicken was tender, full of flavor- great spices with the perfect balance of heat that was experienced throughout the bite, not just on the skin. The Snapper was cooked to order (30 minute wait). Tender, great flavor, not too many bones. Even the fish gravy was made to order as when I asked for more they had to make it. Deliciously worth the wait. The STUFFED OXTAIL PATTY was the star of the show. When they say stuffed, they mean it! This beauty is a creative love song in your mouth that your stomach will thank you for. It's buttery, soft, flaky, flavorful, fatty in the best oxtail kinda ways, and just....YES! You didn't know you needed this in your life but your welcome. This menu item can be a meal that stands on its own as I could only get through half of it as a side. Service was good. Just one young lady at the register holding down two long lines alone. One for the order and payment, and the other for pick up. She did well navigating high demand and customer satisfaction. Tip: Get extra gravy- we got extra oxtail, jerk, and fish and used it. Ambiance is mom & pop. You can eat there, or take it to go. Most people grabbed there's to go. Had we eaten ours there we probably would've ended up doubling our order and waistline. Well... in my Arnold Terminator voice, "I'll Be Back!"

To compare the two, I ordered a spicy beef patty and tested them for flakiness, crispness, and filling. First off price wise. It was cheaper here at $2.70 including tax. I found that this beef patty here at Allwyn's was flaky enough but lacked the crispness of the outside dough. As well the filling was too moist or soggy and it was translucent which was off putting. Also, the patty was lukewarm and not piping hot. I came here to try one and then maybe go back in and pick up a dozen. But From the one patty I had. It didn't warrant a purchase of a dozen to take home for future enjoyment. I must say the patty was not bad. However I found it was not the best one I have had in Toronto. Most of the chicken pieces were on the bone, which adds flavour IMO - but it also means 25% of that meat portion was bones, so what initially looks like a steal for $5.99 turned out to be merely fair. Not offered to customize heat level ( it was lower side of medium) I liked how the Coleslaw was neither too sweet nor too heavy on mayo. Rice & Peas was standard & unremarkable but did taste extremely fresh despite being an hour to closing time. I'd like to round them up to a 4 but that would be saying it's as good as Allwyn's & Layla's and I couldn't go that far. ( in Willowdale, they'd a 4 easily..) I still consider Rose's a solid choice.
