He told us he's been here for 20+ years, and you can really feel the passion he has for what he does. We tried the chicken and it was fresh, juicy, and full of flavor. I recently ordered food for delivery from Scotty's Fish and Chips, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. When the delivery arrived, I was shocked to find that I received a completely different order--yet the bag had my name on it. I called the restaurant to sort things out, hoping for a simple solution. However, the gentleman who answered was not only unhelpful but downright rude. He seemed completely unconcerned about the mix-up and offered no accountability or resolution. It was frustrating to feel dismissed and treated like my concerns didn't matter. I understand that mistakes happen, but the lack of customer service compounded my disappointment. I initially wanted to enjoy the meal I had ordered, so receiving something entirely different was disheartening enough, but the "oh well" attitude from the staff made it even worse. Honestly don't know what the other reviews are on about. Been wanting to try this spot and it happened to be near my doctor's office so swung by around 12:30 to pick up some lunch. Man at the counter was friendly and very generous with the gravy and portions. Hubs had the jerk chicken with sweet potatoes; he said it was delicious and spicy. I got the oxtail with cabbage and was overjoyed with how many oxtails I got in my plate. It was saucy, tender and delicious. Love this place! Scotty is pretty much a one man operation but the quality and taste is very consistent.... Always very good! The owner makes you feel like family (at least for the regulars! ... and they have the lowest priced lunch specials in the city! Only down side, if it matters to you, is that it's not the nicest neighborhood, and pretty much a "take-out" joint. But if you want great food at a great value... Found this location through Yelp and tried it while visiting the CT area. I ordered the curry chicken with rice and peas because I was not impressed with the other food I saw. I must admit that I was not very impressed with the food I tried or the portion size. The food itself was simply OK to me because Ive definitley had better. Went for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised! The fish and chips were extremely fresh, the rice and beans were delicious, and the Mac and cheese was very unique! It had an interesting spice in it that really made a great flavor. The one thing that was slightly disappointing were the plantains because they were slightly cold and lacked in flavor a bit. Stamford has a surprising number of great hole in the wall Caribbean restaurants that you've probably never heard of. I heard of Scotty's from a friend. The exterior.. and the interior.. aren't very fancy. But if you've ever spent time in the Caribbean it's actually very reminiscent of the restaurants you'll find there. The parking lot outside is a plus. The food. Is amazing. Comfort food, large carb rich portions and generous helpings of protein. The meats are flavorful and tender. When I am traveling there are very few places I do repeat visits to because I try and get as many new experiences as possible. this place however I've been back to three times in the past 3 weeks I have even brought colleagues to try out their delicious food. the service is a little slow but it's worth the wait to try the oxtail curry, chicken curry, chicken stew, and rice and beans. Okay, for those that don't know Jamaican food (read: non-Jamaicans) the food is good, not amazing. I've read in reviews to get the fried chicken. Jamaicans don't do fried chicken, that's an American cuisine, that suggestion automatically makes you think okay this really isn't a great Jamaican spot. The curried goat tasted as though it was cooked in a stew pot. The Jerk chicken although good, was definitely not on par to the jerk dishes I have had, both dishes lacked the authentic flavors, the Jamaican pimento, Jamaican thyme. This place is my favorite place to get Jamaican food. Every time I come here I always feel I am in Jamaica. I love the decor and the music is so layback and relaxed. My wife and I love his Jerk Chicken. It's always fresh and cooked so tender and juicy. The spices are so taste and he can even make it spice for you if you ask. But be careful. The rice and peas are so delicious and the veggies are so good. I have even had his BBQ chicken which is really good as well. Amazing Jamaican restaurant. I was a bit doubtful since the last review was from 2013 but it was really good. I got an oxtail with rice and green beans, which tasted really good. It was truly flavorful. I also had the jerk chicken with rice and cabbage, which was also very good. Lastly, I had beef patties, a small side which is sort of like an empanada. You could taste the aroma of habanero in it, but it wasn't very hot. I drank this Jamaican ginger beer thing which was good. He woman was very nice and recommended us things, since we aren't very knowledgeable. It was also fairly cheap, the oxtail was 11, the chicken was 9, and the patties were 2.
