We were wondering around Midtown looking for a latte for my husband when we stumbled upon this place. It's located two store fronts down from Zocalo next to the Wine Bar. I've been here a few times and wondered if they were still in business and there, they were. They haven't changed a bit. They are tastefully decorated in living room sets that are retro. We are shopping for a love seat so my husband sat in all of them hoping to find one. He liked the red minimalist one the most. The only thing is it looks like it might fold out to a futon, but it doesn't and we really need one for when my mother in law comes to visit and other visitors. They have so many items that I kept pointing to and saying "We used to have one of these." The most memorial items were the Pyrex, which my parents still have and a rotary phone which my parents still have just in case the electricity goes out. They also have the push button one and my parents have one of those too. My parents request to keep their land line and just have the local plan which they use to call their friends. They are afraid the power will go out and they won't be able to call anyone for help. And the power does go out in the winter on a regular basis where they live so this is really good for them. The new phones all use electricity. This shop also has lots of cases of jewelry and their broaches were on display on a mine mannequin. They were very sparkly, but I didn't have the time to really browse as the furniture took up most of my time. As we were finishing up my husband made the comment that he really needs to bring his sister and her husband here as she loves these types of store. They are planning on visiting so we'll be taking her here and to Zocalo too as shopping bring on a appetite. read more

In the back corner of this store the walls are clad with several beautiful eclectic wall accessories. There's a gorgeous brass tree wall sculpture that appears to be blowing in the wind up there... I thought this was a great place, until I tried to have some items shipped. I purchased some crystal hi-ball glasses and a vintage ceramic dish for my parter for our anniversary. The sales person took payment and told me that the owner would contact me the next day to arrange shipping. I did not hear from them for 10 days, despite left messages and emails. When I finally received the package, long after the anniversary, the box was smashed and everything inside was destroyed. The packing job was a joke, how are you going to put 4 heavy crystal glasses in a box with a heavy ceramic dish and lid without styrofoam in-between? They have cool stuff in this store with good prices, but the owner simply does not respond to communication and their shipping service is a joke. read more

Scout Living has just made the top of my list for vintage shopping spots. The layout and displays of the multiple vendors make it easy to browse. Everything is well staged, making it not only an enjoyable shopping experience but providing ideas on how to decorate your own space. The mix of goods seemed to lean towards mid 20th Century styles and I was giddy over the various colorful glass decanters and vases. They had quite a few unique Blenko pieces that I have not seen elsewhere and their prices were more than reasonable. Scout Living is a place I will visit every time I'm in the area. Very hip array of merchandise with a vintage flair. I walked out with an amethyst purple color funky decanter for $25-love my new purchase! Scout is nothing but awesome. They have a beautifully curated selection of mid-century modern goods that will fill any retro-loving decorator with nostalgic joy. I have several pieces of furniture from their shop in my home--everything I've purchased is in great shape and will easily last well past the middle of this century. Hot tip: Scout also has a modest collection of classic vinyl. If you're the turntable type, you can score some serious gems here for cheap. I am in love with this store. I walk past often since it's in the neighborhood, and they sure reel you in with the trinkets, bits and bobs outside the store. I found myself wanting a Life Preserver that I found one day, for no particular reason. Can't wait to bring some friends here. Pros (You'll find there are no Cons): What I really enjoy most about this store is the placement of the treasures inside. This is no haphazard, careless assortment of dusty, cluttered junk and antiques. Someone made an effort to bring their own eclectic style into the displays found in this store. It's quite like a museum, especially once you see the room with all the designer stuff including Louboutins in the flesh, only you can actually buy the pieces. And that's not to say you can't afford things here, either. Prices are very reasonable and the owners are friendly. I found myself a 1960's Disneyland candy dish. I specifically came in here looking for a few things to decorate my new one bedroom apartment, upgraded from a tiny studio. It's like I was drawn to the perfect piece for me. Came in the other day looking for bookends to match the rest of my mid century home. I'm brown and was wearing my casual clothes and was with my partner. We got followed around non stop by the guy shop owner and never asked if I needed help. I'd been in there years ago with my white boyfriend while we were dressed nicer and owners were very friendly. Bummed that this place is obviously classist and probably racist, assuming we were going to steal. An older white couple came in and were asked if they needed help right away. They said they were just browsing. Why is a white couple who are just looking getting treated better than folks with the intention to spend good money. Hooray!!! I was expecting a total hipster-trying-too-hard-for-shabby-chic kind of store, but it's not like that at all. This place is retro heaven. Sure, the hipsters may enjoy it as well, but the merch is probably priced a little bit out of their ironic budgets. There's a ton of old furniture, glassware, housewares, magazines, decor items, etc. stacked all higgledy-piggledy yet organized all through the place....and my personal favorite, the little nook on the lefthand side of the store which houses secondhand clothes, shoes, jewelry, and accessories. Normally a yucky thing, but this is the GOOD shit -- Christian Louboutin, Stuart Weitzman, Jeffrey Campbell, Tiffany, Fendi, etc. I tend to be a germophobe, but there are exceptions to every rule. There's so much stuff here from the 70's, it was like an exaggerated trip down Memory Lane for me. I remember so much of this shit from my parents' and grandparents' houses growing up. My husband and I were so struck by nostalgia, in fact, that we ended up buying a huge rad turntable console stereo system which should be delivered later this week. Eee!!! Finally, I can listen to records again!! I'm sofa king excited!!!! Everyone we talked to was incredibly friendly and helpful, and worked hard to make delivery arrangements for the stereo....that was a relief, because we weren't able to rent a pickup truck on such short notice. Like I mentioned in my little jab at hipsters, the prices can be a little high here. Although I was dazzled by the brand names in the clothing nook, I'm not going to pay over $100 for a used pair of shoes, sorry. I think we paid a little more than we should have for the stereo system too, but then again, you can't put a price on nostalgia, so whatever. This is a true gem in the heart of Midtown. It is a welcoming, stylish, fun store that encompasses Mid-century Modern and beyond style. I have always been greeted warmly and treated kindly here- and given space to really "test" an item of furniture with tape measures and different angle viewpoints, while always being helped if I have a query. Since moving here, I've bought more than a few pieces of furniture- three Danish bookshelves, a glass Danish hutch, a storage cabinet, and a lovely side table, to be exact! Each piece has patina, charm, sturdiness, and warmth, and has become a treasured part of our home. The owners have great knowledge and approachability and I've learned a lot about midcentury modern furniture. They also offer smaller pieces of decor, art, etc. (even ALBUMS!) for the perfect touch to your home or that make unique giftables. It's always fun and inspiring to visit Scout Living. You can arrange delivery of your heavy items through Lugg, or pick up yourself. And- make sure to say hi to the resident "Pug" who reposes like a boss right by the cash register. I came in last week to browse through the current inventory. They display and stage the furniture well. They always had loads of mid-century modern furniture, which includes their current inventory. The furniture in the store is a bit pricey at first sight. But overall the majority of the designer furniture pieces are comparable to the open market. I've seen designer pieces from Ray Eames and Ib Kofod-Larsen (at least the tag says so) there. All of the furniture are in good to great condition. Also, pretty sure, you can ask/negotiate on the pricing. Besides furniture, they also sell clothes (men and women), jewelry, shoes, handbags, dishware, framed pictures, and various other knick knacks. read more

If i could give zero I would. Today I visited Scout Living. I'm always impressed by what they have and the usually nice service. Today was a little different. I know what the CDC says about masks and persons with medical conditions. I'm not required to wear a mask with my medical condition, but I did take one in and held it over my mouth and nose. The lady that was working there TOLD me to put my mask on. I explained to her that I have a medical condition. She then yelled at me to get out! "You don't belong in here, get out,!!" While pointing to the door. I've never been so poorly treated by someone in my life. I left willingly. I will never shop there again and will tell everyone I know about my experience. I may even contact my attorney. It's too bad. I liked that store. Also no one else was in there but myself and my mother. read more

There are a lot of interesting mid-century modern items, and other vintage pieces to look at in this clean well organized store. You might wonder, when you see the prices, why either you, or your parents or perhaps your grandparents put so many items than are in demand now in the various donation bags. I didn't know I wanted a colored Pyrex bowl that I am sure my mom had until I saw one on the shelf. I didn't buy it, but I just might have to go back and look at it again. When you're walking through midtown and wondering "Man, I wish there were more stores where I could just browse", look no further than Scout Living. It's an antique store with a focus on mid-century retro, and everything you'll find, from the furniture to the clothing to the knick-knacks, is unimaginably cool. I rarely buy anything here. Just walking around is enough to get the interior decorator in me excited. I usually spend the most time looking through their old records for sale. Not the best selection in Sac but certainly better than most, and I like how they work with suppliers who really find top quality vinyl. However, finding a cool store with a bunch of stuff you'd want in your own place does come with a price. Nothing is cheap here. All the furniture is in really great condition. If you want thrift store prices, go to a thrift store. If you want quality throwback, here's your spot. read more

Lets go VINTAGE! After the mill i was ready to do some shopping just cuz its Friday! I drove over and parking is kind of hard to find but i was lucky to find a spot across from Zocalo's. Speaking of Zocalo's this shop is like right next to it. Man was i eyeing those guacamole, chips, rice and beans! I was walking with a growling stomach like begging me to stop and feed the tummy. smelled great around the area too. When i first walked into the store i was like wow vintage furniture, that is neat! Next i spot little vintage accessories which got me more interested. Then as i go in further into the store i was like wow! DESIGNER accessories, shoes, wallets, and etc! I was well occupied for a good 10 mins, browsing through for a wonderful buy, but everything was like expensive.... I must say they have some nice VINTAGE items which were like wow, i want. This is a great place for christmas shopping or even for special occasions. You will have fun looking at all the unique items. For sure no one else will have the same swag or items you purchase from here. The prices are on the steep side but sometimes you might find a good buy in here. never know but to browse and see if your lucky. Some cons i found was there are not enough lighting inside the display cases so it was kind of hard to see what the little accessories were. The price tags were hidden inside the display case, wish it kind of show a sneak peek so we get an idea. Just kind of be careful when you walk around the store, there are many fragile items which you can trip or knock down. Overall i am a fan of this place. Who would knew you can find vintage fashion statement items here easily. Great place to window shop or pick up a rare piece of item. I came to discover this lovely gem of a store, by admiring a necklace my friend was wearing, at a recent dinner party. After an interesting description of Scout Living, I knew I had to visit this place as soon as possible. And I'm so glad I did, I found myself a unique necklace by the same Jewelry designer. The store itself is so unique, it's actually hard to describe. You will find antiques, vintage clothing, unique jewelry, unique decor, furniture and just about everything in between! The space itself is not very big, like some antique-type stores, but the use of space in the way the items are displayed, makes your browsing/shopping experience much more enjoyable. The staff was friendly and knowledgable, but did not hover. Scout Living is one of those places you actually spend a lot more time looking around in than you thought you would! All the best thrift store finds in 1 place plus beautiful, vintage furniture that's been refabbed or updated. Because they did the work, you've got to pay the price. Awesome selection and each area (different stores in a large showroom) has it's own feel. I bought 2 glasses for $15 to round out a collection. A vintage ballistics pamphlet was $5. Eames chairs were too rich for my blood. It's awesome if your wallet is full, but I saw a lot of things I've gotten in thrift stores for 1/5- 1/10 of the price. I like the hunt, but if you are short on time or energy, this is the place to go for merch that has been weeded out. read more

Not here.. I loved everything in this store plus the prices are fair!!! woohoo!!! I was especially wowed with the section that had the vintage clothing... There were vintage Chanel suits and a gorgeous Prada dress.. I was in heaven. I love the way everything in the store is meticulously laid out. I could easily get lost in this store. Not because it's overwhelming in size. It is filled with such interesting, unique and obscure treasures of years gone by. Treasures that are kept in amazing condition, screaming with flare and personality. Need a 70's hand blown glass bowl? Or perhaps a pair of Chanel 1960's shoes? Or maybe just a therapist couch? They have it. They have it and so much more. I visited on Second Saturday, a very busy and often overpopulated day to visit stores. I did not, however, feel crowded here. I had space to gaze and time to admire. I was not rushed, just greeted friendly with a table of refreshments and a smile. Yeah, I think I like it here. Prices vary from very inexpensive to the pricier tags, but no price tag had me gasping for air. Each item seemed appropriately priced, making these one of a kind items affordable and accessible. I wandered into this store yesterday and absolutely loved it! It's filled with vintage clothing, furniture, knickknacks, other trinkets and GLOBES. I love globes and found a set of Italian globe bookends that are awesome. I snatched them up because they were reasonably priced amongst all the antique items. It seems that this store is filled with items by a number of vendors...almost like an antique market in one building. In any case, I would recommend checking it out because there's a variety of items to see and you may walk out with something to make your house or your wardrobe even cooler. read more

Somethings are definitely worth it. The price some things that are slightly overpriced. Was able to pick up wardrobe truck for under hundred dollars including delivery and and had it delivered on Easter which I didn't realize was last weekend. A neat little shop that reminded me of the antique stores found all over small town Texas, but rather than having to dig through a lot of random junk, the better/higher end stuff has been plucked out, cleaned, and sat right in front of you. Now you do pay a little more because of this, but it's still a nice touch. The staff is friendly and not pushy... i.e. there is no little old lady following you around or glaring when you touch stuff, but the selection is limited compared to the places I'm use to and quite a bit more expensive.
