I found out about this place on TikTok because I'm starting to get into junk journaling and this place basically has everything you're looking for to at least get started. I was looking for random patterns of paper and they had paper packs for $4. I wanna say there was about maybe 40 or 50 pieces of paper in a pack. If you're into arts and crafts, they probably have something for you: sewing, crochet and knitting, stuff for educators and teachers, and honestly so much more you wouldn't even know you needed. I am a chronic hobbier, always trying something new. Scraps lets me try out a ton of new crafts without a huge upfront investment. I've bought fabric, beads, yarn, paint, and even knitting needles for every craft under the sun. I feel the prices are reasonable and the inventory is so unique. Scraps is 100% my favorite place in Kansas City. I am not exaggerating when I say I come here at least once a week. Scraps is a creative reuse center. Everything that is sold is donated, so everything costs cents or a couple of dollars. And they truly have everything -- craft supplies, frames, decor, storage items, almost anything you could think of in a huge warehouse. You can donate leftover craft supplies, and they have a list on their website of things they're looking for and donations they won't accept. Scraps does tons of classes and educational opportunities as well. I've taken a papermaking class!! Absolutely loved the experience. There's a make-and-take room where you can craft and use their supplies for a small price. Not only are they keeping craft supplies and other items out of landfills, they also have a strong mission to help unhoused people. Unhoused people can work at scraps and receive a meal and survival supplies for their time. And they bring meals downtown on the weekends. I love this place so much. I am here constantly and I am buying things here constantly. Some of my best holiday decor is from here. There's a lot of parking in the gated lot next to the building, and the door is next to the garage doors off of the parking lot. I went specifically for collage kits and I got more than I was supposed to get. And you know what, if I stayed more than five minutes, I would've bought the entire aisle of stuff because it's so magical and priced to sell. And don't forget to follow them on social media. I found out about Scraps KC from one of my friends. "You should go there, you would like it." I make journals out of old books, not necessarily junk journals, but I can make those too. I constantly run out of paper and things. Not any more! This store is a goldmine for anyone who likes to make crafts. They take donations of craft items and sell them. I spread the gospel of Scraps KC to literally anyone who has even a vague interest in crafting!! This is a gem of a store and I love the sustainable mission. I have gotten so many treasures from Scraps: jewelry, expensive watercolors for cheap, embroidery supplies, puzzles, even Christmas decor! The selection and layout changes frequently so I love to go once every couple of weeks if I can to browse all the aisles. They host so many cool DIY classes ranging from sewing to upcycling bottles into vases and papermaking. So much of what they sell is under a dollar so you can get a lot of bang for your buck. If you have old craft supplies or fabric lying around Scraps also takes donations! Be sure to check the website for what they will and won't take. YOU HAVE TO GO HERE!!! Scraps KC is just beyond cool. Never seen anything else like it! Do you want to make something? Any kind of craft at all? Well everything you could possibly want to make something with is here! Everything is donated and all the profits go to worthy causes around Kansas City- see their website for more details. Take a look at all the pictures I took and see what is available here. It's just mind blowing!! My daughter loves to sew and make collages on paper and on boxes, and this place was perfect for that. We got bunches of supplies for her to use and I also grabbed a few things I just couldn't live without and were so fun. Our total was only $19- so much less than other stores! So so so much less!! You just need to experience this place to believe it! (Edited to say that you might not want to go here on a super warm day- it's not air conditioned. I thoroughly enjoy any efforts made to help improve the planet, so when I heard of Scraps KC and what they do such as offering TerraCycling and reducing waste by taking donations of used craft items, I was super excited to check them out. Scraps TerraCycling offers to recycle items such as personal care items, razors, Burts bees products, phone cases, oral care, writing utensils, and plastic gift cards. Which is nice because ScrapsKC is the only place in the area that accepts these items to recycle ! This place is also like a huge thrift store full of craft supplies. So if you're working on a project, but only need a few items of things- rather than buying a whole bag at a craft store- Scraps is where you can buy what you need for way less! I had no idea about this little gem hidden just before you get into downtown KC. It is a second hand craft store that is priced so well and very well stocked and organized. I just happened upon them while online and decided to check it out and ended up volunteering. I am so excited to volunteer more shifts just to be able to see all the things that are in the store. If you are a crafter or a sewer this is a place you must take the time to check out! It will be worth the time. And I believe they are always looking for volunteers. You can work just a two hour shift if you like or more. Whatever your preference. And by volunteering you get to be the first to see new items that come in! It's a win win! I'm a professional organizer, and I absolutely love taking my clients donations here that would otherwise go into the trash! Brenda, the owner, is an amazing woman. I love that this place helps the communities in so anyways, including homeless out reach, environmentally friendly practices, education and a creative outlet for kids. I also love that you can adopt a class - so many public school art teachers get a measly $100 budget for the entire year for art supplies, but if they register with Scraps, they can get free supplies. I wish there were more places like this in our community. I recommend going in for a quick tour, to get an idea of all of the items that they accept. read more

While this USED to be a great place to donate and shop, it isn't any longer. They have changed for the worse. Unfortunately, they have put extreme restrictions on what they want for donations anymore. That eliminates a large percentage of items for donations, and makes the shopping selection just as bad. We were there on a Saturday afternoon. It should have been crowded, but the place was dead. We saw several groups of people come in, look around, and leave without buying anything, ourselves included. We were very disappointed and we overheard other people say the same thing. Also, please note that the complete list of what donations that they do not accept is posted on the front door of their building, so you have to drive all the way there to find out what you should have left at home that day; the list on the website is NOT a full list. Don't bother asking anyone there what's an acceptable donation, though. It literally varies depending on who you ask. All in all, the place has gone downhill. Save yourself time, money, and stress - donate to your local school district or food pantry instead of this place. read more

I'm a donator and a shopper. This place is wonderful because there are so many unique items that can be used in other than intended ways. I have grandchildren who are always excited to see what I have brought them from Scraps. I always have a box set up to take my donations the next time I visit. Items are inexpensive and very nicely and creatively displayed. Every staff member there is awesome, and I cannot say enough good things about this unique place.
