There are so many reasons to love Scraps, I don't even know where to begin! I can't quit telling people about this thrift store for craft supplies. I am a chronic hobbier, always trying something new. Scraps lets me try out a ton of new crafts without a huge upfront investment. I've bought fabric, beads, yarn, paint, and even knitting needles for every craft under the sun. I feel the prices are reasonable and the inventory is so unique. Of course, Scraps is also a great place to donate your items! Their mission helps people and the environment. I love any opportunity to reuse and limit consumption, so this is a perfect fit for me! Even if you are not sure you will find something (unlikely) this place is worth checking out.

Scraps is 100% my favorite place in Kansas City. I am not exaggerating when I say I come here at least once a week. Scraps is a creative reuse center. Everything that is sold is donated, so everything costs cents or a couple of dollars. And they truly have everything -- craft supplies, frames, decor, storage items, almost anything you could think of in a huge warehouse. You can donate leftover craft supplies, and they have a list on their website of things they're looking for and donations they won't accept. Scraps does tons of classes and educational opportunities as well. I've taken a papermaking class!! Absolutely loved the experience. There's a make-and-take room where you can craft and use their supplies for a small price. Not only are they keeping craft supplies and other items out of landfills, they also have a strong mission to help unhoused people. Unhoused people can work at scraps and receive a meal and survival supplies for their time. And they bring meals downtown on the weekends. I love this place so much. I am here constantly and I am buying things here constantly. Some of my best holiday decor is from here. There's a lot of parking in the gated lot next to the building, and the door is next to the garage doors off of the parking lot. Sometimes there are so many people that you have to street park because it's so popular on the weekends! Please go to scraps for all your crafting and decorating ne

What a fabulous idea!!! I love the reuse of all the leftover project remnants!!! It was bigger than I anticipated and well organized! Need rubber stamps, florals, fabric, yarn, paint, postcards, bins, knitting needles, etc. My daughter ( a textile science major) was in her element. You can even pay with a card! Donate your extra stuff and help a great cause! I am interested in checking out their volunteer opportunities as this is really a mission I can get behind & impact!

I found out about Scraps KC from one of my friends. "You should go there, you would like it." I make journals out of old books, not necessarily junk journals, but I can make those too. I constantly run out of paper and things. Not any more! This store is a goldmine for anyone who likes to make crafts. They take donations of craft items and sell them. I bought a big bag of things and only paid $12. As I was leaving, the woman at the counter mentioned "collage bins." Well, I'll be back.

Such an innovative concept, esp for fellow adhders! When you get tired of hyperfixating on a craft, donate your supplies & pick up new ones!

Owner Rebecca Koop is the perfect host and tour guide through her magical land of art, nature, education, commerce, conservation and most importantly community. The pottery for sale is amazing and the prices are right in line. Most pieces for sale are both functional and beautiful. There are also classes available to learn the art of ceramics. While this would define most pottery businesses, Back Door's magical element actually lies outside the building. As you approach the building make sure that you take a close look at the front façade; it may look like a intricate paint job but it is actually a ceramic tile mosaic that was 15 years in planning and 2+ years of installation. It is truly mind boggling to see it up close and discover the details and hidden creations in the 450 square feet of art. After you are awed by the tile work, step to the west side of the building and observe the mural that wraps itself around the the side to connect to the mosaic - fascinating in it's own right. The Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood garden is also on the property and is fascinating to explore with the garden beds, small orchard, water retention systems and folk art all condensed on to a large city lot. Back Door Pottery is just one more hidden jewel that makes Kansas City a true arts mecca!
