I absolutely loved the experience of getting my hair done at Sculpt, simply because it wasn't just another run of the mill hair cut. Natalie and Craig (the two I met that work there) made it such a lovely, warm yet professional environment to be in. They listened carefully to what I said I wanted doing, then did a stellar job of my hair, and gave me good advice for how to look after my new 'doo'. Plus the charming little teacups they serve up their countless varieties of tea they have in, gave it that added little touch of homeliness, which made me feel welcomed and valued as soon as I sat down. I bought a Wowcher voucher deal described as a wash,cut, blow-dry and luxury head massage. When I arrived at the salon I loved how it looked, lovely pine floor boards and white wash walls with hints of 1950's and old fashioned Jazz music playing. It made me feel incredibly relaxed so much so that I think I genuinely forgot about my hair! The girl that did my hair was absolutely lovely, if a little shy but I had no reason to think she didn't know what she was doing. I was first handed a booklet of different head massages which I asked if I could choose one as part of the deal but I was told I'd have to pay extra so I politely said I'd go without in hind-sight I should have questioned but to be honest I'd forgotten what the description of the wowcher was. The luxury head massage was just conditioner and 2 minutes of massage. She asked me briefly at the beginning what I'd like doing to which I said a couple of inches off and a few layers putting in. After washing she just got on with it, there was no question of is this enough? would you like anymore off? I didn't see my hair cut at all as it was taken down my back the whole time and I was so lethargic after sitting in the seat for around 90 minutes that I didn't really say anything. When I got home the ends of my hair were all over the shop, I don't think much of it was straight at all. One bit was almost an inch longer than the rest and the front was noticeably longer as it had all been taken down my back and not down the sides. She didn't even check it herself thinking about it and since I've had to cut the noticeably longer bits myself, granted I said I only wanted a small amount of layers putting through but you can't notice them at all. Its a good job I have long hair because if it was short I think I'd be really upset. It's a real shame because I thought the salon was beautiful and until I noticed what a mess my hair was in I would have been a returning customer. read more

Myself and five friends were looking for somewhere unusual to be pampered before a night out in Nottingham for a friend's hen do. We all love vintage settings and afternoon tea so we stumbled across a bargain advertised on Groupon for dramatic eye make up lessons at SCULPT HAIR GALLERY. The studio is five minute walk from the market place nestled inbetween several vintage stores and little cafes, in the Hockley area. Its a two storey building with retro hairdresser seats and a fresh, urban feel. I made contact with the owner Natalie to ask about the offer but when i mentioned our idea for a Bond themed hen do, she told me they regularly organised events at the studio and offered me a package which was a much better deal than the advertised one. She carefully listened to what we ideally wanted and called me back several times to ensure she had the right details and was organising our afternoon how we would like it to run. We agreed a package for make up, hair and nails from 4pm until 7pm on a Thursday afternoon. On the day of our hen do, Natalie greeted us along with two colleagues and showed us into the studio which had been beautifully decorated with touches of our Bond theme, eg mock guns, jewllerey, playing cards and sweets. There was a gorgeous vintage tea trolley with cake and tea for us, along with a Bond theme tune soundtrack as we chatted and opened our champagne we'd brought. We spent the next three hours being taught how to do beehives, curled hair, pinned up retro hair and how to manage shorter hair to make it look different for a night out. We liked the fact that the ladies did each of our hair, but also talked through what they were doing so we all knew how to try it on ourselves another day. We had the freedom to pick any style we wanted. The ladies were very friendly and didnt mind our constant requests to take photos so we had some lovely memories to take with us, without one of us not being included on the photo. It's rare to find somewhere in the city cente where they are prepared to let you relax and almost do your own thing without feeling rushed. We had the run of the whole studio and even got changed in their bathroom ready for our night out. There was a small issue with staffing that day, due to unforeseen circumstances, which meant our package altered slightly but Natalie kept us informed of the development as soon as she found out and offered an alternative, which we were happy with and it didnt detract from our lovely day. We all left feeling we had enjoyed a peaceful three hours in a pretty setting with three ladies who made us feel as if they were just as excited about our day as we were. The ultimate test for any place is would we return, and in this case, Sculpt offered such good value and such uniqueness, we all said we would. At just over £30 for the original package we agreed, we'd recommend this for any groups wanting something different for a get together, or as a way of getting ready before a big occasion, or just to spoil yourself for the afternoon. read more

Terrible Complete Lack of Competence I had my hair cut and styled many months ago and I am still waiting for the lob-sided hair cut to grow out- the stylists poor attempt at feathering the hair at the front went far into the normal length part of the hair. Seriously don't waste your time or money by going to this hairdressers. They seemed to lack the basic knowledge that I would expect stylists to have. I can curl my hair with GHD straighteners quite easily. Unfortunately the stylist had no idea, after tugging at my hair and failed attempts I had to take over and show the stylist, as soon as I got home I redid my hair. Also, the pricing structure is not clear I got the impression that they are money grabbing, and my ordeal was not worth paying £70. This has to be the worst hairdressers I have ever been to, I would not want anyone to go through this experience so please save your time, money for stylists who know what they are doing and are not trying to overcharge you. read more

I visited Sculpt Nottingham today for a vintage inspired workshop which I booked through Groupon. For a start it took weeks to be able to book the workshop as no one was answering the phone and the answer machine was full so we couldn't leave a message should have seen this as a warning! The workshop promised 'hairstyles all the way back from the 1920s through the the 60soffers tips, tricks and techniques in how to perfect a range of hairstyles'. There was no range of hairstyles, we were told we'd be learning how to do a victory roll and could book other workshops to learn other styles. If I had known this upfront I would have never have booked this workshop. We were then told we may struggle if we had washed or straightened our hair, no pre-advise on this had been given. The workshop itself was no better, we were pretty much left to get on with things ourselves with little support from the instructor, our hair looked awful and when we finally got the instuctor to help she left us to have a chat with some people outside. I have never used Sculpt as a salon so I can't comment but if you are thinking about attending one of their workshops proceed with caution! read more
