Was on the hunt for a vegan friendly, cruelty free salon and this place came highly recommended by…read moresome fellow vegans. They don't have a sign up yet, but it's really easy to find. Just diagonally across the road from the Sparkle Horse. My appointment was on halloween. They had a horror movie playing in the background, bottles of fizz and had all gone to the effort of putting on face paint and getting into the spirit. Lovely girls, really chatty and listen to exactly what you want. I went for my usual Sombre/Balayage colour with a cut and blow dry. It only cost £65, which is very reasonable. They even told me where I could buy the vegan products they used on my hair (Sally's). My hair is in great condition, even after having colour done. Can't wait for my next appointment with these gals!

One of the staff has been trying to wangle a discount for clients across at the Sparkle Horse, which would be great if that comes about as I've enjoyed my time in there too the few times I've been in. She's also looking at getting in someone to do Botox - which is not my thing for a few reasons, but it might be there some time soon if you want it. The one thing I wasn't keen on was that the sinks seemed a bit low when I was getting my hair washed - I think I remember one time I was in a place where the sinks could be adjusted for height, but I only go to the hairdressers two or three times a year so I can cope with that.

I recently went to see Ivy about getting a track weave put in. I'm not new to having a weave, or…read moreextensions and know the frustration that can be caused by bad hair. I talked to Ivy about what I wanted done and what she could offer; She was so happy to accommodate my every need - offering to open earlier to fit around my schedule and patiently answering my 100 questions about the type of hair she used and her practices. From what I gather she is a very competent, knowledgeable stylist who put me at ease. I had a consultation in which we discussed the different options and I felt completely happy, secure and confident that I had chosen the right salon. I had planned to get my hair coloured before getting the extensions installed but Ivy informed me that they have a hairdresser there as well, and in fact that she is fully trained in styling and colouring but has no time due to the extensions. I was thinking about going to a nearby salon which had quoted a substantial amount for colouring my roots - but Ivy told me her hairdresser was only a fraction of the cost. As I was made to feel so comfortable I decided to book in for my colour there and had it that day - The colourist Jo, knew exactly what I wanted when I started to explain and accommodated my fussiness of trying to get to the shade I wanted to match the extensions I'd like. I am SO happy I decided to get my colour there. It is as good as, if not better than salon I usually go to, and I felt more welcome there than I do in most hairdressers. I've booked in for my weave to be installed next week and hopefully it will continue to be a great experience.

As I came out from having my weave installed a group of young lads even shouted "nice wig". I've never cried more coming out of a hair salon. Biggest waste of £500 ever.

Inside you'll find a range of hair extensions, hair dyes and hair products. Although, as I said, it is mainly aimed at wholesalers - you'll also find some really nice hair product gift packs for as little as £4.99. You won't find any popular brand names - instead you'll find authentic salon brands. Sally Cosmetics also sell tanning lights and nail products etc. They have a great selection of nail colours - including OPI nail varnish which, in my opinion, is the best nail varnish in the world. The staff are friendly and helpful. In truth, there's not that much that would appeal to the average passer by - and Sally Cosmetics don't actually sell make-up which was quite a disappointment.

I don't visit here much - normally only when my hairdresser tells me to get a particular item. It's really aimed at the professional market, which I reckon means that most of the products do what they're supposed to - otherwise the professionals wouldn't bother with them. That's what my logic tells me anyway. Today I was in looking at hair styling wands, and there was a selection of products with different features. The member of staff I spoke to was REALLY helpful. Obviously sensing my clueless-ness, she talked me through the different features - diameter, heat settings, titanium or ceramic, and what sort of results they would give me. I feel much more informed and, once I've checked with my hairdresser, I'll be back to buy the right one for me.
