Very nice, modern campus. Free courses and easy enrollment can't be beat. Classes fill up quickly but are offered Fall, Spring and Summer. Garage parking permits are $20/semister in 2018. There is some street parking behind the garage but it goes quickly so it is probably a good idea to get a permit. I'm enrolled in a Linux Administration class because I usually work professionally in the Windows Server environment, but I needed a refresher on working in Linux to update my skills. I usually prefer self study over instructer led courses, but they offer a hybrid course here. There is a lecture along with self study and exams on netacad.com (actually, this is also available independent of the instructor led course via a virtual campus). In my case, I need the isolated structure of the classroom to help keep me focused on learning this material. They also offer a certificate if you complete all of the courses in a particular group (if you need or want that). read more

This is San Diego's best kept secret. Here, anyone who is 18 or older can take free computer classes with no grades or tests. Be sure to attend all classes and they used to provide certificates of completion as along as you have perfect attendance for the class you are taking. (I'm not sure if they still do this.) Be sure to attend the first day of class about 1 hour before class starts to get a seat. There are only about 40 seats to a classroom. If you get there late, you might be sharing a computer with someone. And remember, it's important to tell all your friends, relatives and coworkers about this school. they get their funding through good attendance. From what I understand, they don't advertise. So please tell everyone you know that these classes are a great way to improve your computer skills. This nice thing about this school is they really want all students to do well. And the student has many options. If you don't like an instructor, just leave. If you ask questions, the instructors will try to help you. If you don't ask any questions, no one will respond to you. If you don't like the instructor, I would take the class anyway and see what you learn. Or if there is the same class with a different instructors, then take another class. As a student, you either make it a good place to take classes or a bad place to take classes. Also, remember, you can speak up and talk to the person next to you. They might know something you don't know or they might not know anything! And there are many free courses you can take online at other institutions around the world. Look it up on Google, type: free education. Or type in Google: free computer classes online for MS Word. Have you tried Khan Academy? It's a free place to take many different courses and there are no tests. Not only does North City Campus have computer courses which can be taken a la carte, but they also have several 9 month courses called their Certificate Program which require applying for in advance, and requires good attendance. These long courses are very well worth it because you are taking college level courses without paying a penny. There are many options, it's worth anyone's time to go there, ask questions and start learning to better yourself. North City Campus is something all cities in the USA should have. ---- About the parking at North City Campus and more. ---- For many years, probably over 20 years or more, the parking was free. It's a shame they are charging for parking, charging for parking makes no sense. If you are a student there, it's time to get some activism going and create a petition to stop the unfair charging for parking permits. The land is already paid for, they don't need to charge for parking. Note: Look at Steve G.'s review, it is not true. I've been attending this school since 1996 and it's a good school. Most instructors are excellent instructors and I've learned tons of information about computers and computer programs at this school. People think I'm a wiz at computers, which I am because I did take a multitude of classes here. In fact, I was able to start my own online business due to the classes I've taken at North City Campus. So Steve G.'s review is nonsense. Many people don't take the time to keep re-educating themselves throughout their lifetimes which is why they aren't good with computers or other skills. If you have a bad attitude (Like Steve G.), and you don't ask enough questions and don't enjoy learning, you'll never like this school or any school. Now take a look at Leo N.'s review. If this is true and it might be, all you students currently attending this campus need to start petitions and get the paid parking changed to free parking. When I started going to this campus in 1996, parking was always FREE. When they first built the new building with the multi-story parking lot on Aero Drive, the parking was FREE also. If you don't like something about this school, then let's change it. This school is paid by our California tax dollars and it used to also be funded by money coming in from the community colleges in this area. "I AM SO SMART, I AM SO SMART, S-M-R-T, DOH! I MEAN S-M-A-R-T! " So, I recently have taken up photography and wanted to learn about using my new DSLR camera! (Shoot, I paid over $800 for it, I might want to be a pro at it!) I really wanted to take a class and was looking around San Diego! Then a friend of mine suggested I take a photography class here! I went to this school and really had a good time! Yeah, it's crazy! A GOOD TIME AT SCHOOL? I know! Never thought I would admit that! Plus, there are NO GRADES! I never knew schools that offered free classes were available and you definitely gain a ton of knowledge! There are computer classes, cooking classes, accounting, and many more! My suggestion if you are interested in taking classes is that you search through all the classes and whatever time the first day is, you show up about 45 mins earlier. These classes fill up quickly and sometimes have a capacity. Also, just a warning, the equipment is on the old side and sometimes doesn't work but at least you are gaining knowledge! How did I not know about this place?! I had to take a keyboarding test for a job I applied, and I was refer to the continuing education schools. After not being able to do the test at a different location I am glad I came here. I called to get some info and the lady that help supper friendly, she gave me the time I needed to ask all the questions I had. When I got there she was just as friendly in person and made sure I got to where I was supposed be. The instructor was very friendly and knowledgeable of the course he was teaching and testing on. The campus is very new and modern. All the common areas that I could see were very clean. They do have a parking structure and you can pay per hour, day, or the month. I think there should be a rule that nobody can leave a review unless they're over the age of 30 unless they've lived life, unless they have some life experiences, because young people will put five stars for every single place they visit..... I gave it one star because of the treatment from the office staff because there is very little parking and they can't wait to give you tickets or tow you.... the machines in the parking lot do not work. The people at the front desk seemed as if they're trained to treat you in the most abusive manner that they can possibly do and then the counselors there if you go to them to let them know what you've experienced they have the authority and the disposition to treat you 10 times worse so I just ended up quitting only based on the horrible treatment of the staff and then I found that my classmates slowly but surely all quit we had all kept in touch.... so it is a rampant problem....... read more

Much to my surprise I discovered free computer classes taught here! Unfortunately I only got there a few mins before class started so I was left w/out a seat as well as a bunch of others lined up near the doorway. Had to leave after standing for 30 mins. The Continuing Ed north city campus is a surprisingly good place both in terms of their computer labs equipment and the quality of the lectures. I have taken a couple classes here and the campus is excellent. The new facility is very clean and filled with up to date equipment. The instructors are great and really know their stuff. There are many programs that are offered here ranging from networking, web-development, graphic design, network security, etc. I would highly recommend taking classes here. You can't beat the price tag for education, and for the subjects I chose, the teachers often also have real world experience as well. This is helpful because it is often the case that teachers, while well-intentioned, often miss the real world element, being protected by their position so they can miss how it applies to the world of work. I came here for a orientation for a Systems administrator course that starts in September. While driving up the the campus, it was easy to find and you could tell very well kept. It is in a industrial area so just make sure you actually look and pay attention because you could easily think it's inside of National University. Everyone was extremely nice and the campus is spotless, nice bathrooms nice people and professors. I look forward to my course in September. read more

One of a very few good schools/colleges here in town and many still don't know about. Having taken classes myself such as networking+, security+, Linux Essentials, Linux Server Technologies, and an android web development class, to be honest, I was very surprised how this school is this well maintained and organized. The computer lab is filled with up to date equipment, the instructors and TA's are great and they really know their stuff and their staff are very friendly and helpful, and with all of these is FREE of charge!! read more

Outstanding Campus and Staff. The college offers certificate programs that I find are relevant to the real world. I enrolled in a few IT courses that I have learned a lot from. The campus appears to be new, very clean and not as crowded as neighboring campuses. I also like to add that the staff here are very helpful and knowledgeable. The counseling office here provides assistance and workshops on resume building if you need it. Every so often different staff members comes into the classes and informs students on various and relevant information that any student can benefit from. read more

It wasn't professional at all from Chancellor of 6 Campuses of SDCCD(Mrs.Constance M.Carrol) to ignore my email since October 18 of 2011: ccarroll@sdccd.edu (see below). I had been in and out of at least 3-4 Campuses since 2001-2002. Computer classes + IMCP are free, but it doesn't mean that instructors and manag-t have a right to treat students the way they do. Professors are over there only to collect the salary NOT TO TEACH, and they still are getting their funding to build a new complex with several stories parking by requesting all the time to sign a enrollment paper. They should in stead get a in/out punch cards to control stuff's time spent not doing what they suppose to do first!! In addition to it, they are trying to close the FINANCIAL AID in March of 2011 for all students who is on EDD, Disability or low-income - who are taking a certificate program to make their life better! I guess it's too much for instructors to file the weekly students' reports of the presence/absence, and students are not even aware of that !! Last and not least why a night duty maintenance guy is more concerned about kicking students out before the end of the class leaving all the time bathroom dirty for morning/afternoon shift and wasting his time sitting outside? Who is responsible for an outside lights at North Campus, and why they stay turn on sometimes in afternoon, but when night comes the parking lot is dark? That's why people end up hitting each other's cars. Why did I end up missing almost 2 hours of my IMCP classes waiting until 9 am for a counselor (Linda Reese) to come to work after I filed a written complaint to a school Principal? Why are clerks using their work time to discuss over the phone their family affairs during the work hours? I'm presently in my second session and now understand why so many students in class have followed our instructor, "Leslie" for years. The best secret in San Diego. Not a lot of people are aware this great treasure in our finest city. I have taken various classes here and they are amazingly all free or very low cost. Some of the instructors have a wealth of knowledge and love for the subject they are teaching. I am taking some classes with Paul Richards and he is the BEST teacher. North City Continuing Ed. is truly a wonderful education resource and even better, the classes are free. I took 2 courses in QuickBooks (Beginning & Intermediate) and the instructor was very good. I also went here to take a typing test to get a typing certificate at the Computer Lab and the lady in charge was very helpful and friendly. Plus you can do all sorts of self-taught tutorials there. Well I can't write on the classes just the front office. First attempt at orientation I admittedly arrive 3 minutes late. What can you do it's San Diego traffic coming from downtown. Doors close exactly at 530 pm. Ok fine. I enroll again this time for a morning orientation. I arrive 20 plus minutes early and get my ID. No problems until orientation starts and they decide then to inform us the evening spots are filled for the classes. What in the hell would possess them not to inform people prior to coming down that the classes were filled? I went back to double check my email and make sure. I called prior to orientation not a single word about the class being filled. Checked in twenty minutes early and nothing from the front desk. God forbid you're three minutes late for orientation but in no way could they send out a simple email saying class is filled not wasting two hours of my time driving and checking in. Now I see why this place is free. You get what you pay for and it's pretty obvious how little they care. Proceed with caution with these clowns. read more
